Great Stuff!!!! Have always loved this song. It was the lead single in Australia, of the album "The Bride Stripped Bare" which sadly did not do to well on the charts here. Alot of reviews claim there were no singles of this album, well that is NOT so.
And also, why we are at at lets admit the truth; at least here wher i grew up in California. California had the greatest public school system in the wor, up until the 1970's when it began to be dismantled. This was deliberate. Prop 13 passed in 1978; it defunded public education by taking away the source of revenue. Now we have a thrid world state. Where the wealthy send thier kids to private schools, and everyone else is left to fend for themselves; the public schools are disintegrating...
Bryan Ferry is referencing the Italian Futurists. Futurism was an artistic and social movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. The Futurists practiced in every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, theatre, film, fashion, textiles, literature, music..The Futurist art movement "we the young and strong Futurists!" The Futurists admired speed, technology, youth and violence. FASCISM.
A perched eagle clutching a fasces was a common symbol used on Italian Fascist uniforms. The original symbol of fascism, in Italy under Benito Mussolini, ...you get the picuture? I didnt think so, they dont a good job teaching you people in AMerica..the schools are horrid..no real history..taught
@spooneye The beard is great, too bad it's only here and in his video/cover of the Velvets' "What Goes On" (also on YT and at least one Roxy video compilation).
This would have been '78, and I have to believe someone remembered the girls when Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video was in concept phase about 7 years later. As for the eagle...well, a raptor does show up again on the Avalon cover.
