  • You don't have to remove the screen at all to do that.

  • You don't need to remove hardrive, keyboard or disconnect the antenna or the LCD wires. Unplug the power remove the battery touch the DVI connectors to discharge static. Place your laptop on a kitchen table so that you can walk around the laptop as you work. This would save you a lot of time. If you know what you are doing this can take less than 5 min. The wax paper is a nice touch I always left my cushions upside down on the table. Nice video some people are way to impatient.

  • Dude, you're doing it the long way. You don't need to put them apart to tighten the hinges. All you need to do is take the bezel off and it will bare the hinge screw. No need to take off the HD, network card and the keyboard. You are just confusing people.

  • thanks a lot! :)

  • all I want to learn is how to fix the laptop hinge. That shouldn't be 2 days worth of work as this vid portrays

  • lmfao I hope nobody that commented here attempts this. I bet more than half of you will destroy your laptop - especially the guy who wrote 'labtop' xD

  • just put super glue

  • the SCREEN

  • what are you talking about???

    suck my ass...

  • what are you talking about???

  • I don't have "wiggly" hinges, I have a loose display. My hinges are tight to the display, but the hinges have no tension in the pivot point That is probably the problem most people are having.

  • shit all you gotta do is remove the screen bezel why strip the f*ing laptop !!!! seems pointless

  • Can it be done without removing the screen from the body?

  • DeLL D810 right Hing is almost loose here Need Help... OMG Laptops are so bad in hinges... Dell Should Think Of making Hing Design Laptops Make something new without hinges :D

  • and a funny thing I found a DVD inside my laptop between the dvd rom and the upper part of my laptop, a secret area xD

  • Hey thank you so much!!

was completely useful to open my laptop, it's the same e1705, I was trying to clean the screen because have some rubbish back in some part inside the screen but I don't clean because say a message that not touch the white paper so I thought if i open could break the screen :O but was ok I cleaned my laptop and now the keys delete, some arrows and F12 work again :D

and your voice is ok, like a nice boy xD

  • Is it necessary to remove the HDD and network card? Doesn't seem like it? Please give the reasons.

  • @vomit49894 the network card yes!! because the wifi antena is on the top of the screen so if you don't do it you can't disconnect the cable or maybe you break, the HDD not

  • Thank you so much. This video created a successful repair for me. I really appreciate it.

  • Thank you so much. This video created a successful repair for me. I really appreciate it.

  • Great video and did I tell you sound like Mitch Fatel.

  • can you tell us why you took the screen off from the bottom part of the lap, and why remove the battery , and why remove the hard drive.

  • an easy job made hard just turn off laptop unscrew the display screws tighten the 4 screws on hinge job done

  • good video but it wood be better is it was brigher. dont listen to every ones crap coments , they probaly have not delt with broken computers mush

  • Very good instruction. Thank you for taking the time to post this.

  • What did you do to your screen? Fold it in half??

  • I have the same computer and the same problem but I am too scared to do this. I don't want to mess up my computer if I accidentally do something wrong! :(

  • @banstaman what would i do if my hinge was to tight??? it pokes out of the front plastic near the screen

  • this video is about 15 minutes too long and i hate your voice

  • @supercommon Thank you for sharing you INVALID opinion.

  • Wow, great job but the darkness in this video might make me stray a bit. Seems a little impossible for me but I should be able to manage. I assumed it was just the little cover up front on top of keyboard that was removeable to access hinges but damn, this was quite a process I see. I'll give it a shot. I'm a DJ and this laptop has just gotten even looser with all the movement and bass that makes it shake during gigs. WISH ME LUCK! QUESTION: Why remover hard drive and card?

  • WTF?....I might as well just build my own computer.

  • @IstealXmas Good luck!

  • @IstealXmas Do you Study IT i did really fun

  • OK as helpful as this video could be why is it so dark? Please lighten it.

  • 1:59 WIGGLY OR WOBBLY? Which one, because my computer has a wibble. Will this fix wibbles or just a wiggle or a wobble?

  • @razrv3lover yes you could in some models, but the problem is that sometimes the screws get loose on the computer side of the hinge, so its better to tighten all the screws at once

  • i was just thinking the same thing

  • i time myself on how fast i can take apart my laptop and put it back together every last part samething with motorcycle engines haha

  • Thanks for the video I just tighten the hinge on my E1505.

  • How do a Tighten a key on my Gatway labtop? PLEASE help me.

  • I have no idea, just search for "Gateway service manual", something should come up.

  • When reattaching hinges (Min 4:10-4:21)

the display screen is all jacked up. Also at the end of vid looks like a vertical crease down the center of screen.

  • @chino5717 Actually that was a protective sheet I put over the screen to prevent it from getting scratched with the screwdriver.

  • WTF I'll live with a floppy screen rather then risk FU my display screen like dude did.

  • Who messed up their display?

  • Could you do this with an Inspiron 6400?

  • good grief, you turned what should have been a 30 second video into two 10 minute videos, and you actually risked a lot more by taking so many things apart when all that was necessary was to remove the screen bezel.

  • lmao you could of done this with out taking the computer apart

  • i don't think you have to rip your computer apart to do that.. I didn't...

  • guys i have broken the screen frame any one can tell me of i can buy other frame some how ????? please help meeeeeeeeeee

  • Why does the screen look all jacked? I'm seeing ripples and everything else, wtf?

  • nice video man, it was very helpful. my sister broke the hinge on her computer and jacked up the cable going through it and your video helped me reverse some of the damage. only problem now is that when i turn it on it says "building your dell mediaDirect files" and its been like that for 30 min...any advice?

  • Nice video, however you should use a non-metallic scribe to remove the bezel. Plastic vs plastic is a lot better than plastic vs metal (even with cloth on the tip). Otherwise nicely done, and keep on taking stuff apart :)

  • great video banney

    very professional

except i have an hp lol 0_0

  • It's okay Mr. DeStefano, not everybody is perfect! Well that is unless you have a DV6 or an HP Envy, then you're fine ^_^

  • Thank you banstaman...very helpful and detailed vid. Love the in depth instruction. I was able to do this myself with almost zero knowledge of pc repair.

As for Pvtjamesryan2...you're an asshat. That is all.

  • I love it how this idiot takes a 10 minute or less job and turned it into over an hour. If you worked for me, you would be fired. You would be part of the 10.2% unemployed statistic.

  • Oh, isn't that nice? Considering the fact that both videos together, took only seventeen minutes. Not everybody knows how to do this, so it's as detailed as possible. I'm glad I don't work for you.

  • @banstaman

I did this today and it took me 5 minutes. You did it wrong as well.

  • How would it have worked, had this video been wrong?

  • Yeah, he's teaching the rest of the idiots how to do it in 10, which takes about half an hour properly. I don't wouldn't want someone fixing smth that had no nohow about doing it. I would never go to your shop.

  • umm wouldnt it be kinda easier if you just open the bezel and tighten it there?? *reply*

  • It would be, but that puts some tension on your hinges, and you can't quite them all the way. It also reduces your chances of snagging and what have you. I did it cause that's the way I'm most comfortable with.

  • just put a pillow under it, but it is easier with the whole thing off, not like it's hard. Everything for dells are easy.

  • ok ty

  • Matchbox is right. I never thought of that.

  • if u just need tighten the hinge, remove the screws on the edge of display. take off the cover and tighten. it takes about 10 mins.

  • And if its not the screws then.....and the hinges is wore out.....and to loose......i really thought i would get some new info here.....

  • dude the video is so dark, ill prolly break everything if i copy wat u do

  • thank you

  • Actually, if you only want to tighten the hinges all you have to do is to remove the two bottom rubber bumpers and tighten the screws. No bezel removal needed. Simple as that.

  • man, you fucked up your laptop, look at the protective lcd layer.

  • seemes like you added alot of uneeded steps to the process..

  • You are right, but for noobs the extra steps are essential!

  • @jimbo32712

I agree. Removing the Hard Drive, Network Card? I might have missed the part where he removed the Memory.

When I'm almost certain all you have to do is remove the Battery to reduce the likelihood of ElectroStatic Discharge.

  • This was a great video because the computer repair shops charge over $130 to do this....and I can buy the hinge for $30!

In this case your hinge just needed tightening, but I assume once the whole thing is apart, the hinge is just unscrewed?

  • Holly crap!! Why would you go through all this trouble for something soooooo simple??? All you have to do is remove the rubber bumpers and screws. Next, remove plastic plate and then tighten screws that hold the hinges. Put bacl plastic plate and screws. All done!

  • i know what you mean , i wondered what he was doing at first , but its to make it so you don't damage anything. i would still go with your idea

    i got a dell inspiron 9300 :)

  • Wow!

  • Also be aware that much of the screen wiggle can be due to another set of screws that hold the hinge brackets to the main part of the laptop. They too often have sticky covers and are located on the back of the computer directly next to each back corner. And also be warned: NEVER OVERTIGHTEN! Stripped screws will make screen very wiggly.

  • The hard drive and battery removal are just safety precautions: harddrives are delicate when turning laptops around upside down and such, battery provides power and you don't want any power on the circuit when sticking a screwdriver around the cards. Shorting out the circuit could cause some very spendy problems that wouldn't be covered by warranty.

  • how did media direct turn on if there was no battery in the system,

but anyways thanks for your help!!

  • Thank you for the tutorial. As other posters have mentioned it, there was not need to disassemble the whole unit as shown here.

  • thanks for posting!

  • i believe you removed too much from the compy, and overcomplicated the process.

  • How so? I understand the HDD is that's the case. You don't have remove the HDD, but as stated before, I did it because it bangs the system around a bit. Everything else is necessary.

  • I agree.

He claims that removing the hinge cover and the display assembly are necessary, but they're not necessary for tightening the screws under the display bezel; they're necessary for safety and getting the job done with slightly more ease.

  • lol is it me or did he fuk up his lcd screen,

    6:41-6:48

    look at reflection.

good video though, it helped me tighten my hinges also. but i wonder. do i really needed to take out the harddrive n stuff to tighten the hinges?

  • Oh no, I didn't mess up my screen, I am a very clumsy person, so I didn't realize I was dealing with sharp tools, so I put that vinyl tarp to prevent any scratches. Well not neccessarily, but I would recommend it, because it requiures a lot of banging around on your system. Glad to know it helped!

  • Thank you so much for doing this video. My screen was really really wobbly and I didn't have any idea how to fix it. You were REALLY informative and the your step by step was really awesome. I can't thank you enough, and I'll be sure to remember how to do it from now on. My bezel liked Left to Right though lol. Thanks so much again. You should do more "HOW TO" videos. It was great.

  • Thanks, no problem I'll have an Acer restore up and posted if I have the time!

  • But I bet a lot of people either didn't view this video or made a lot of mistakes because it is too dark. banstaman should repost with a video that is clear.

  • I just re tightened my lap top hinges by simply exposing the hinges under the bezel and switch panel. I'm not sure what the problem is with accidentally snapping the wires you mentioned as they were never in the way of the whole process.

  • Well I am a very clumsy person, so I can't speak for anybody else out there, but the antennae wires are very frail; at least to my knowledge, so I used caution with it.

  • I opened my laptop to clean out the fan and i almost dropped a load when a wire broke from my screen to the board. it was so small and flimsy i knew it wasn't the main line (it also was just connected to metal) so its just the ground. I consider myself lucky there! a little wire twisting and tape and bam back in business

  • Ok, what if I just unscrew the 8 screws on the LCD while its still intact, and remove the part where the power button is, will I get to anything that way? Because that way the screw you just tightened is visible too.

  • Is it possible? Yes. Do I recommend it? No, because you risk snagging your wires which connects your screen to your graphics card, and you wireless. If this happens, you can only buy a new screen, which will blow $2-300 out of your pocket.

  • thanks for the video. you are right - prying the bezel off is easier (and safer) if you detach the whole lcd assembly first. but if its not your first time, its faster and simpler to just deal with the 8 screws around the lcd.

  • Oh, no you have to do both.
