  • Nice! Really great timing.

  • my favorite Jaco composition, nice work!

  • tabs?

  • wow U sound just Like Jaco Pastorius

  • well played. A few of the rhythms are wrong. But nonetheless it sounded great.

  • How is the "Jaco" sound recreated? i.e. amp / settings?

    Nicely played BTW.

  • great playing! you sold that bass?? I sold one of my Chapman Sticks recently... someone came up to me at a gig and offered me $3,000. sometimes the offer is just too good... Now I wish I hadn't!

  • Is this the same person that played with Vanilla Ice or do you just have the same name?

  • @KHMaggot67

Yes, Same Jason... I played bass / co-wrote 3 of the songs on Bi-Polar along with Josh Brainard and Roy Mayorga.

  • WOW! You're so amazing. No wonder why they picked you. Keep up the good work dude!

  • very nice. even the octaves were in tune. Played with emotion. and omg does that bass sound warm and fuzzy.

  • is this bass worth it, even if it costs so much damn money (over $4,000)?

  • @chapanese96 Yes it is worth it! I found another one recently so now I have it back! The neck on these things are amazing... Better than any vintage jazz neck I ever played on... If you get a chance to play one of these, check it out!

  • Must of been a high offer cause that bass sings!! well played for a moment I thought you had the record on .

  • spot on intonation! nice!

  • Great job, man. Not many can play this as nicely as you have here. I don't get why the positive comments here have so many thumbs down because you really do sound great here.

  • agreed!.......5 stars Jason- i admire your musicianship dude! keep up the great work my friend!

  • Tones is everything and you got the tone man !! keep Jazzing :) !

  • Keep working on it, you'll get it one of these days.

  • this is the first ever thread where two players talk and kindly settle things on youtube! well done!

  • what bass do you have?

  • I think that is the Fender Custom Jaco Pastorius relic bass:)

  • yup, its the jaco relic...

unfortunately I sold it... i got a price that was just too good to refuse... wish I never sold it... have been looking for another one!

  • I hope you find another one, I wish you luck.

    Jack

  • it's the same fender jazz bass of jaco

  • Nice job playing, but heres a tip to make your life a bit easier so you have less hand moving to do:

You can do the 4th fret harmonics at the 9th fret, its the same note.

  • I do understand what you are saying although I do not agree...

The "Note Pitch" is the same on the harmonics but the tone is different.

Its like playing an Open G string verse playing the G on the 5th fret of the D string.

There is a tonal difference, it is subtle, but playing it on the 4th harmonic the tone is "Stronger" and "Punchier"

    In my opinion at least...

  • Yes, with fretted notes there is a difference in tone, however with harmonics, as long as you are right on the harmonic, it should be the same tone as harmonics are at repeating intervals.

You can test this out by doing the 4th fret harmonic, then letting it ring and placing your finger on the 9th fret harmonic, and as long as you placed it right on the harmonic the sound won't change. I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, you play really well and Im sure you know the harmonic notes

  • It sounds just about the same on the 16th fret too. but thats how harmonics work...

Honestlly I really dont know why I prefer playing it on the 4th fret. Maybe just because the string spacing is a little closer at the 4th frett so easier to bar cleanly?

Reguardless, it can be played either place,

up to individual preferance i suppose...

  • your absolutely right!@slapinfunk- i agree whole heartedly dude...the way that you are playing is suffice! best..

  • god

  • Great feeling and tone. Keep up the good work.

  • Great!!

    Awesome job man!

Is that a Fender Jaco Pastorius Tribute Jazz Bass? Anyway it's beautiful

    Salutes from Argentina!

  • Hahaaa. YES. Exquisitely played and a lovely surprise at the end. Jaco would indeed be proud.

  • That was awesome! Can you play Teen Town by Jaco? If you could, please do a slow version first and then maybe another at Jaco speed?

  • sure ill do that...

I am recovering from getting my Wisdom teeth out at the moment. Loaded up on pain killers. So I am going to enjoy this for a while.

I have actually been working on some instructional video's..

  • Thanks, I'll subscribe & watch. Yea, I know how pain meds can be.

Dude thanks again for the vids, you're great!

  • Excellent! Jaco would be proud!

  • my fave jaco piece! good job! i'm new on the fusion scene so it's all good! ;)

  • Jaco Pastorius compositions are always trully enigmatic, and that is why i realy like his compos...you have done a nice cover, and an excelent intrepertation of that theme dude:)

  • i love that bass dude

  • good cover!

  • Good job player

  • PLEASE PLEASE i'm just a poor avarege bass player please give me the riff "outro" that you played! If you want! Thanks from ITALY

    Complimenti sei un ottimo bassista!

  • The double stops are

    E flat on top

B flat on Bottom proceeded by

    E on top

    A flat on bottom

  • Very nicely done. Sounds very much like Jaco.

  • The way you play it, you make is seem so easy and effortless. Which is a good thing.

  • Nice tone and nice jaco relic bass

  • very nice!

how is the last thingy you play called, just before the end? (maybe any notes/tabs)

  • Excellent!

  • you have a good tone cause of ur frettless but ur not aren't as long as they must be ..i had read someone who say to slow it down. It's true

  • is it true that on fretless you have te play ON the lines instead of behind them ?

  • yes, you play ON the lines... When you play on a fretted bass, even though you press behind the frett just slightly, the note its self is playing off the FRETT... on a frettless, your finger is the frett...

  • niceee

  • very nice i love your sound.... is that the tribute bass?

  • That looks like the Relic Bass, which is an "exact" duplicate of Jaco's bass, poly coated neck and all. Also, not cheap.

  • this is not an exact duplicate of any bass. Many of jaco's famous basses whereabout are unknown. Fender just made one that looked kinda like all his sunbursts.

  • no, the relic is a duplicate of the famous "bass of doom" jaco had.

  • Very nice

  • awesome man! wonderfull sounds!

  • is that the tribute bass? Looks and sounds great.

  • nice feel mate.

i think that u need to slow it down a little thats all

    well done!

  • Awesome stuff Jason.

    Diggin the new bass :D
