great playing! you sold that bass?? I sold one of my Chapman Sticks recently... someone came up to me at a gig and offered me $3,000. sometimes the offer is just too good... Now I wish I hadn't!
@chapanese96 Yes it is worth it! I found another one recently so now I have it back! The neck on these things are amazing... Better than any vintage jazz neck I ever played on... If you get a chance to play one of these, check it out!
Great job, man. Not many can play this as nicely as you have here. I don't get why the positive comments here have so many thumbs down because you really do sound great here.
Yes, with fretted notes there is a difference in tone, however with harmonics, as long as you are right on the harmonic, it should be the same tone as harmonics are at repeating intervals.
You can test this out by doing the 4th fret harmonic, then letting it ring and placing your finger on the 9th fret harmonic, and as long as you placed it right on the harmonic the sound won't change. I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, you play really well and Im sure you know the harmonic notes
It sounds just about the same on the 16th fret too. but thats how harmonics work...
Honestlly I really dont know why I prefer playing it on the 4th fret. Maybe just because the string spacing is a little closer at the 4th frett so easier to bar cleanly?
Jaco Pastorius compositions are always trully enigmatic, and that is why i realy like his compos...you have done a nice cover, and an excelent intrepertation of that theme dude:)
yes, you play ON the lines... When you play on a fretted bass, even though you press behind the frett just slightly, the note its self is playing off the FRETT... on a frettless, your finger is the frett...
this is not an exact duplicate of any bass. Many of jaco's famous basses whereabout are unknown. Fender just made one that looked kinda like all his sunbursts.
Nice! Really great timing.

Nice job playing, but heres a tip to make your life a bit easier so you have less hand moving to do:
You can do the 4th fret harmonics at the 9th fret, its the same note.
icwutudidtharr 3 years ago
I do understand what you are saying although I do not agree...
The "Note Pitch" is the same on the harmonics but the tone is different.
Its like playing an Open G string verse playing the G on the 5th fret of the D string.
There is a tonal difference, it is subtle, but playing it on the 4th harmonic the tone is "Stronger" and "Punchier"
In my opinion at least...

is it true that on fretless you have te play ON the lines instead of behind them ?

yes, you play ON the lines... When you play on a fretted bass, even though you press behind the frett just slightly, the note its self is playing off the FRETT... on a frettless, your finger is the frett...

That looks like the Relic Bass, which is an "exact" duplicate of Jaco's bass, poly coated neck and all. Also, not cheap.
bluenote71 4 years ago
this is not an exact duplicate of any bass. Many of jaco's famous basses whereabout are unknown. Fender just made one that looked kinda like all his sunbursts.

no, the relic is a duplicate of the famous "bass of doom" jaco had.
