It looks like he was a feral and was adopted by you. He probably didn't have much human contact when he was young and so doesn't like being petted and all.
@afthefragile you are probably right. he came around my apt when he was a cute little kitten. we asked everyone around us and nobody claimed him so i took him in. he was probably about three months old. he has always been a bit wild even though we are always very loving to him
@paradoxpictures My cousin's 2 cats were only a few weeks old, when found in an abandoned garage. One of the cats always seemed mean & I rarely could ever approach him. Yet oddly, he sometimes would let me pet him. He was very close to my cousin, but sometimes he would have a psychotic moment - didn't seem to recognize her.and would freak out - hissing & trying to attack her, then he suddenly would calm down. Separation from mom too young can be the problem. BTW, Tommy is adorable!!
Why don't you try to play with him when he's not blocked in on three sides, perhaps feeling cornered? Secondly, he can sense when you fear him. And thirdly, you're not his master. Cats don't have masters.

Now I have a Siberian who is very calm and laid back.

Well, it's really kinda strange he's aggressive, i have a neva masquarade (former classified as a siberian) and she's a sweetypie, her level of aggression towards people and animals is zero. Probably he's just this independent type of macho guy ;-) Btw he's georgeous, love his colour and these whiskers wow!
