  • Hey Phil...You showed this to me in the mid/late 90's. I love it and use it all the time, including the 5 stroke used both single and double stoke technique. It greatly transformed my style and technique ever since. Awesome website too. You da man! Thank you for doing all that you do. I'm genuinely inspired. ~Dale S

  • Ayo Phil...Awesome vids doc!!! They're very inspirational, you're a true musician indeed.

  • Great educator! Thanks for these videos you're sharing some fantastic ideas!

  • Hello...

How can I download those videos?

  • Nice lesson, you can also play the six as straight sixteenth notes (1 e and ah two e) then back to triplets (trip pul let trip pul let) Just a variation... Your lessons and presentation are extremely well done. Lots of people can play, it is a different skill to do video and speak well and have great drum sound.

  • hello gavin

  • Phil - Good demo. I was taught to always even them out, period.

  • fantastic video, very well presented! completly inspired me to get on to thrashing out that rudiment! ('thrashing' but keeping all the notes even.. in a triplet count that is...lol)

  • Hi Phil its Noah

  • LOL one tea ta sounds funny I've never heard that before

  • Thank you for taking the time to share.... awesome for people to do so.... The fact that we must all -- as drummers -- take the first steps slowly, until we get the hang of it, is really the best advice (for anything).... Peace, George

  • and again cheers!

hope for evan more you help alot.

  • yes it's mandatory!!!! LOL!

  • Do I have to grow a Soul Patch to do this roll? LOL!

  • Cool, thanks for sharing.

What type of ride cymbal are you playing?

    Is it a K Ride?

  • Hey Phil,

  • Thanks for sharing your expertise, since watching your video 2 years ago, this rudiment and method of application has been a fundamental part of my playing. Thanks Phil

  • very helpful... thanks phil!

  • Thanks I think I play it alot as a para diddle diddle r l rr ll the possibilities are endless but your way , the correct way makes me approach it somehow with a different feel. Most importantly we love the drums!

  • Thanks Phill, that was very helpful. Also love those old rogers, sounding great.

  • cool! very helpful.

  • i'm loving your videos! very useful thanks a lot :)

  • yeah godofdrums 6 stroke shows up normal only in jazz, and blues drums, but some other genres have used this discretionaly...

  • Please help.

Whats the benefits between going RLLRRL and RLRRLL ?

  • if you are playing evenly with your R and L hand then it shouldnt sound that much different on your snare but when you start to move it around your kit you'll notice a difference..not 100% sure thats the right answer but hope i could help

  • The benefits of RllrrL is that it's vastly easier than RlrlrL at fast tempos.

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question but when you get going fast with this pattern are you using any controlled rebound with the sticks?

  • FUCKIN' ACE MAN! THANK YOU.

  • And I thought I was the only one using this rudiment in my solos. Good to see others using rudiments in a creative; musical way!

  • You do a great job. Keep it up.

  • very very nice, clear and incredibly informative. Thanks a lot and keep it up buddy!!

  • that intro is a buddy rich groove

  • Thanks again for another idea. You have inspired me to start practicing again at my age "64"!!!! Thanks alot man. Great.

    Harry Himles

  • how much a drum like that one costs today?

  • 500

  • Thanks

    you help me alots~

  • Very easy to follow. Thanks!

  • Dude thanx alot.. you're the fucking shit and you just helped me out more then you know.. thats going to work right in with the style of drumming im playing.. thanx again

  • Isn't that also what they call a 9 stroke roll?--RLLRRLRLL. I always thought of a 6 stroke roll as RLRRLL--Paradiddle diddle. Correct me if I am totally wrong. I like what you are doing with the toms. Very nice fills.

  • Great lesson!

  • Good stuff, man. I am gonna practice this. I am trying to get that fluency in my rolls.

  • Thanks man !!

  • A great tutorial! Love how you break everything down to the simplest elements, very easy to follow....

  • I saw this Phil Rowley guy playing with the world famous Big Mo Band. He fully shreds!
