From my point of view if hes trapping to actually eat then I have no problem, but if the only thing he goes for is the hide then I have a problem. There is so much waste when your trophy hunting/hide hunting. I grep up being taught that if you kill something you better have a use for every part of it, skin for clothes, meat for food, you can even use the intestine for sausage casings. It's all about using 100% of a kill.

@SBEbenelli2 no, just a 338 win mag using hornady interbond 225 grain ammo, a 338. lapua would be too heavy for trapping, whereas my Kimber Montana is less than 7 pounds stock.
@notregme Box of 20 is around 30 bucks because i handload. The marlin papoose is for when i put an animal down in a trap, 338 is for animals coyote or larger that are not in a trap. and the 225 grainer does not actully leave that much meat damage in what you shoot.

I guess I feel neutral about this. I can see there are people who disagree with what this man is doing, but you know. 1.) It isn't as though he's catching 100 of these things a week. 2.) Trapping/hunting helps with population control of animals, which is our fault in the first place for doing away with a lot of their natural predators. 3.) This is an old trade, and it will probably continue on for a long time.
@irkofan You're definitely right. The thing I would like to stress most is the population control issue. My state, for example, has no limit on the animals that I trap- simply because the population has exploded over the last 10 years or so. A lot of people don't realize that a large portion of trapping also includes removal of invasive species. In my state, coyotes are an invasive species and they provide a lot of educational information on how to get as many as possible.
@Notquiteaninja Coyotes and deer were a nuissiance where I grew up (rural Indiana). I had seen cows that had been killed by starving coyotes. Lots of dairy cows in Indiana, and Coyotes killing them is a significant loss for the local economy.

People don't realize that's how some people eat- if I didn't raise hogs, chickens, and cattle, I would be standing in the welfare and foodstamp lines. The coyote population is getting pretty ugly out there.
