I think the reason why their farther thought string was good and because he had a ''lucky'' string in his pocket was because when he was younger he tried to get the same mouse and in the end the mouse helped him by telling (showing) him to make string in a factory just like it showed his two sons at the end to make cheese string and when he left his Will and the house was left to them i also think that it wasn't just the house but also the mouse to help them in future..eventually haha

I watched this movie when it first came out, but hadn't seen any of it again until finding these clips on the Internet. I've always remembered "This house will last forever" through the years because the house collapses right after that line is said.

My wife and I were watching TV one evening in our summer cottage when we heard tin foil crinkling in the kitchen, we went into the kitchen to investigate, and there was a deer mouse (just like the one in this movie) sitting upright on the counter nibbling on a piece of pie crust, I grabbed a broom wanting to "get him" but he was so cute and adorable that I couldn't bring myself to do it. I bought two live traps the next day and despite using different foods for bait he wouldn't ever go in one.

@bobducky4567 yes BUT now they have the long term satisfaction of not only saving the factory but upgrading it, thus keeping the business (plus it being something BOTH of the brothers love AND now they have the possibility to re-build or buy a better house! And they gained a new friend, the mouse.

this movie is an instant family classic. with its tom and jerry like antics and stylish ways that the mouse moves and outsmarts these two fully grown men, its just really funny to watch. 5 stars for the upload. i havent watched this movie in a while and its nice to watch a classic like this every now and then.
