And to open the case, I got a flat screwdriver and hammered it down through the sides. It took a bit long but it opened nicely.
these motherfuckers are clever... charger is easy to be fixed, but they make them like this to buy new... also, i tried to fix my own charger with a kitchen knife.. i almost cut my finger WITH THESE IDIOTS IDEAS...
Ok guys I have a hipro a0652r3b for a Gateway laptop and unlike this one when I plug the thing into the wall the green light comes on no problem but when I plug it into the laptop it doesn't charge...For awhile maybe a month or two I was able to keep my laptop charged by whirling the cord around but that doesn't work anymore. I found a new one on ebay for 10 bucks, but is there a reason why the charger's green light comes on but refuses to charge? 0.o send me a personal message plz.. :)
I repaired mine successfully but it was the other end of the wire (the plug). Unfortunately, after that, the charger is recognized as "unknown" and it's NOT charging the battery, any thoughts?
@MicroCoreSystems {~_^}? Why would i throw it around? And i didnt break it. if your careful enough your can separate the casing. This video only applies to wiring problems or singing though. If your other internal components are shot, seek professional help.
When I see things like this, I see the fire department coming to your 300 K house to put out a huge fire. THe power cord is modular..buy a generic, there is a reason why the cord is sealed. Unless you are learning how to sod, and repair in class or you are actually a certified electrician. I guess not taking a risk is a risk in itself.
Aside from the amateurish technique I think the video is good because it shows that the thing can be repaired. DO NOT BUY adapters other than Dell because otherwise the battery will NOT CHARGE even though your computer will be powered up. The centre pin delivers the information to your computer that what you are using is a Dell charger. If the chip inside the charger is not there or is broken or the wire towards the pin is damaged your battery will not charge. Well done Dell you lost a customer!
HAHA it works bitches. f'u DELL and your planned obsolescence. The chargers are designed so the wire gets singed after a time. Rather than separating the channels they overlap them increasing the chance of shortage.
A complete idiot why risk it when new one are cheap on ebay?good example of how not to do it with power on it an accident waiting to happen. beware clown at work
@Minty9167 Actually you have to be careful buying the cheap ones on eBay. Some of the ones from China are so badly made that I have read reports of them melting or overheating. Best to buy generic adapters from known brands, or the original.
You should NEVER mess with an electronic gadget with exposed wires while it is plugged in. Of course there is going to be a spark!! Also, you should only use electric tape! How old are you? Do your parents know you are messing with electricity?
Not a good idea to repair ac adapter yourself if you are not an expert, just as celtpro said, think safe and be safe. if your are really on a budget, try an replacement adapter, it's much cheaper then the originals. And also you could take use of coupon code. Try CPNCBA10 at ChargerBuy store, you'll get 10% off discount.
Mine just sparked and when I went to pick it up it severed in to two pieces. A razor blade and some electric tape always does the trick. YAY SAVING MONEY! lol
Ok this is the problem with the ac adaptor it's cheap this one works with the Alienware and it's a higher quality power adaptor then the one they sell with the m11x

i was wondering if anyone could help . I have Dell inspiron an one night it stormed bad the next morning I went to turn it on right?well I plugged he charger in an the light on it was on.but whn i plugged it in to my laptop the light when out and no charge to my laptop. What's wrong???(?((
What about a tutorial to open ac power adapter. Not the laptop but the 65/90 watt HP power adapter? I cannot find a tutorial about that. Is there a glue in these adapters or only some plastic holders?
Please don't use scotch tape, it is not heat/fire safe. Cut off the damaged end of the cord, strip the wires, and resolder it into position, use shrink tube and electrical tape only.
Thanks a lot for taking the effort to make this video.
The hard part was to break open the adapter after it was just to make sure that the wires were not touching each other. When i opened the adapter the wires looked properly consealed but then i went ahead as you said and pulled the wire to check if thats the case. They were not properly sealed so pulled it apart and sealed it properly and it worked. dont worry to break open the adapter as there are clips around to put it back in place.
My AC adapter slowly, but surely has been dieing for at least two months now. Every day I has been bigger and bigger pain to get power back online. Yesterday - finally - it has died. With crappy mood I was about to throw it to garbage bin, but them my girlfriend youtubed this video. She said - look and try!.. Watched video, tried and it worked! THANKS! Working great - like new (though does not look like one :D).
my light used to be blue until when i plug it in is does not work ive tried changing the fuse but that worked once and i dont think its the wires but ill see anyway if is not i have proberbly over heated my charger all together lol
I have two of these damn chargers, now I am just going to take it apart like you did, but the smart way... no offense. Always use electrical tape and never mess with bare wires while the circuit has power! It is always safer to do this while plugged into a surge protector in case you need to quickly shut off power
Your handling of the plugged in adaptor is quite dangerous. Someone might suffer electrocution. Always uplug before handling any wires and plug in carefully to test without touching any wires then unplug to secure the casing.

@celtpro the easiest thing to do would have been to unplug the ac cable from the wall,
not struggle with it like a weak limp wrist-ed woman.then you "USE ELECTRICAL TAPE $0.50 AT THE DOLLAR STORE "not scotch or clear tape.
electrical tape insulates the connection preventing shocks and fire hazards
and you completely cover ALL EXPOSED WIRES
