I had the same problem and at first, when I opened the case the cables seem fine, but once I cut higher on the cable and separated the wires I found the problem and fixed it. It worked! Thanks!

And to open the case, I got a flat screwdriver and hammered it down through the sides. It took a bit long but it opened nicely.

Ok guys I have a hipro a0652r3b for a Gateway laptop and unlike this one when I plug the thing into the wall the green light comes on no problem but when I plug it into the laptop it doesn't charge...For awhile maybe a month or two I was able to keep my laptop charged by whirling the cord around but that doesn't work anymore. I found a new one on ebay for 10 bucks, but is there a reason why the charger's green light comes on but refuses to charge? 0.o send me a personal message plz.. :)

When I see things like this, I see the fire department coming to your 300 K house to put out a huge fire. THe power cord is modular..buy a generic, there is a reason why the cord is sealed. Unless you are learning how to sod, and repair in class or you are actually a certified electrician. I guess not taking a risk is a risk in itself.

Aside from the amateurish technique I think the video is good because it shows that the thing can be repaired. DO NOT BUY adapters other than Dell because otherwise the battery will NOT CHARGE even though your computer will be powered up. The centre pin delivers the information to your computer that what you are using is a Dell charger. If the chip inside the charger is not there or is broken or the wire towards the pin is damaged your battery will not charge. Well done Dell you lost a customer!

@Minty9167 Actually you have to be careful buying the cheap ones on eBay. Some of the ones from China are so badly made that I have read reports of them melting or overheating. Best to buy generic adapters from known brands, or the original.

Please don't use scotch tape, it is not heat/fire safe. Cut off the damaged end of the cord, strip the wires, and resolder it into position, use shrink tube and electrical tape only.

The hard part was to break open the adapter after it was just to make sure that the wires were not touching each other. When i opened the adapter the wires looked properly consealed but then i went ahead as you said and pulled the wire to check if thats the case. They were not properly sealed so pulled it apart and sealed it properly and it worked. dont worry to break open the adapter as there are clips around to put it back in place.

I have two of these damn chargers, now I am just going to take it apart like you did, but the smart way... no offense. Always use electrical tape and never mess with bare wires while the circuit has power! It is always safer to do this while plugged into a surge protector in case you need to quickly shut off power

Your handling of the plugged in adaptor is quite dangerous. Someone might suffer electrocution. Always uplug before handling any wires and plug in carefully to test without touching any wires then unplug to secure the casing.

Honestly I'm pretty pissed off right now at whoever designed this ac adapter. The tube covering some of the wires was like 1-2 centimeters too short... if it was a little longer the fucking wires wouldn't touch each other like that.
