  • MUCHO MEJOR QUE EL TEMA ORIGINAL CON METALLICA

  • singer was probably sucking someones cock,so good, that now his throath is so fucked uP!

  • Also they don't seem into it at all. Such a stale show

  • John! DOWNPICKING!!!

  • I think he sounds like squealing pig.

  • that singer sounds like he's choking on a big...

    what's the word...

    COCK

    because he is...

    choking on a big...

    Cock

  • instrumental its a flawless cover,

but will someone please tell the leadsinger to go home? he's ruining the song

but my compliments to petrucci..like he couldnt do it..sure he can

  • Oh god the singer, oh my lord does he do warm up exercises or does he just wing it? so rough sounding and to loud

  • Intresting cover

  • I love dream theater, but this is a lifeless rendition.

  • Unfortunately this recording isn't well optimized, there's a good deal of clipping, resulting in loss of fidelity... can't really tell just how good they sound in this vid :/

  • very nice

  • Comment removed

  • he isn't a bad singer, but he shouldn't sing metallica!!!in my opinion..

  • I second this. His voice is just not right for these songs. Same with Leper Messiah. I love their guitars sound though

  • how the hell do they do the harmony part? (like 4:02 to 5:00) Is John using an effect or something, cause we can still hear to the piano doin the clean part behind...=S ??????? (sry for poor english)

  • Probably an effect octave pedal or delay

  • Dream Theater rock!!

But, Master of Puppet is Metallica, Nobody can play this song like Kirk and James!!!

And nobody can play Dream Theater song's like John Petrucci...

  • o.o his voice is bothersome

  • those vocals are SHITE.

  • man the cover mostly soo many songs of metallica and iron maiden...

  • Man I bet his throat hurt after this.

  • Another quick note, Pettrucci should have done the entire solo himself. The keyboard parts felt out of place.

  • Poor LaBrie. His voice was so amazing back in the early 90's. Glad to hear that it's finally sounding a little better. "Live At Budokan" was just so sad to listen to. Great cover though, except I think LaBrie is hurting his voice...you can hear him squeal now and again when he sings. Yikes.

  • petrucci is spot on as always...James sux major ass tho

  • JP makes Hammet look like a bitch and hammet aint half bad.

  • Yeah I agree. I dont like to compare musicians and Hammett is great, but John plays this song better.

  • well, u just proofed urself silly. First of, John Petrucci aint got shit on hammet.

second of all; its James Hetfield playing this harmonic solo.

and there is no way in the world petrucci beats hammet in the fast solo.

next time think before opening the pie hole.

    bye bye now =)

  • Suck a dick.

  • buhahahaahah shit vocals

  • Anyone who thinks LaBrie is a bad singer... just listen to basically any album. If LaBrie were somehow gone, DT would be over, he's the perfect vocalist. I wouldn't see him in any other band. Listen to any album, he can lead you to tears with his vocals.

And yeah, he sounds horrible here, but it's obvious he had some kind of bronchitis or whatever, cause he's having trouble getting out the words.

  • Petrucci plays this way better than Metallica. Nowadays Metallica kind of sucks...

  • I think.....the song would have been much better if he wasnt trying to go the "metal" approach and actually sing the lyrics in his original element instead of trying to emulate James Hedfield. Thus...In not trying to butcher the song...He accidentally butchered the song lol. Another example of trying too hard.

  • pretty cool

  • Labrie sure has... an interesting voice in this song...

  • Haha DREAM THEATER!!! I have to agree,James Labrie should not be singing this song, he's bad at it because he's such a good singing and this song has no singing talent whatsoever. This was a great cover excluding that.

HAHA 1 year ago, this was put on.

  • dream theater is amazing but only METALLICA CAN PLAY MASTER!!!!

    sorry dudes!

  • the guitarists did a really good job accept for the picking. he didn't do it the same as james does but still pretty damn good. one thing what the fuck is a keyboardist doing there

  • the one gripe i have is that they can't match metallica's intensity. they did a good job but didn't push it over the top

  • Petrucci Rocks

  • gud cover, bt voice nt deep nuff, n e dnt look like e njoyn himself @all singin!!

    gign is bout njoyn yerself!!

  • holy shit the vocal

  • that wasn't that bad. that was a really good cover. i bet they would do it alot better today cause labrie voice has gotten alot better now. his food poisening is wearing off.

  • His food poisoning was in 1994, This concert was in 2003. It doesn't take 9 years to recover from a broken vocal cord. Especially when singing is what you do almost everyday.

  • Aww come on guys! this is the best cover ive ever seen, sure the vocalist isnt that good in this song.. ok he sux.. but u havnt heard him on other songs.. ive heard he once was offered to sing for iron maiden,i mean come on just for this song doesnt mean he sux in singin!

  • Dream Theatre are sick, but hes not playing it right !!...unless thats the point.....iuno

  • I hear what your talking about Jobbie. A little wierd for DT to play something less than perfect. Watch around :36, hes not picking it with all downstrokes like James did on the record. May seem like a small thing but it is a big change to the sound.

  • Touche' my friend :)

  • Ma come cazzo canta? in Italian

How the fuck he sings? In English

  • they played really good

but the vocalist fucked up the song :x

  • A song does not need to be complex to be good. A lot of Metallica's songs are not particularly difficult, but they sound very good.

  • Labrie sucked at vocals, but portnoy just raped ulrich at drums...

  • worst cover i've ever seen.yes they are virt.s(fuck the singer.he sucks) but they cant give that feeling...

  • he plays with up and downstrokes very bad

  • yeah i agree

i prefer the way that james plays it

  • just because james labrie doesnt sing like james hetfield doesnt mean he's a bad singer, he has a great voice but just not for metallica you cant compare the two

  • yeah guess you're right

  • who the fuck do u think u r singer

  • - tempo is to slow

    - metallica does it much better and harder in the intro (no alternate picking which is more tiring)

    - the singer sucks a lot

    - but solos are awsome!

  • yeah but how are U?

  • i'm fine and you?

  • YEAH? whos the funny guy now

  • lol

  • HeHe its like YEH ! then the singer comes in =[

  • this singer SUCK BALLS, but the instrumentals rlz ...

and the drum is 10.000 times better then Lars drum >.>

    that piece of shiat ...lol

  • good performace but petrucci doesn't sound as good as james when it comes to rythm..the solo..same as kirk..

  • Well anyone who have ever heard a Dream Theater song could figure out that James isn't fit for master of puppets, but it's cool anyway.

  • James Labrie's voice is not fitted to this song at all, DT songs are awesome all around but when they try to cover songs like master of puppets and the trooper, the vocals are disappointing

  • Love to say that although Petrucci is a shred master, he best leave rhythm downstroke playing to Hetfield- something Berklees can't teach you. J'YEARGH!!! but honestly not at all a bad performance, except for labrie, it took metallica 16 years to fire bob rock, now DT ought to do the same with James Labrie

  • good job on the music but man dont get me wrong JP is awsome but so boring to watch he shows no emotion, comon at least head bang short hair or long

  • The instrument playing is accurate but he can not match James Hetfield's voice.

  • ahh the singing is horrible, his voice is awesome in dt songs but just cant get Hetfields style in this vid, and the music is great from these rad musicians

  • Nice tribute! :)

  • He's like one of the worst singers ever.

  • yeahhhh downstrokes for live braaah. labrie makes this sound a little amateur, but im not gonna say hes a bad singer. he just messed this one up.

  • while his voice is garbage, the guitar isn't bad... but if you look closley you will see that he does not downpick the song as James does, which gives it the chugging effect. simply not as good as the original. check out trivium's cover of MOP- its much better than this

  • didnt hear where he missed the tone

  • lol they played it better then metallica could, except the singing wasn't quite as good.

  • Alright, everyone else did really well, but LaBrie? I think he should of added his own vocal stylings to the song. His voice is not Hetfields.

  • They should also cover DragonForce, how could would be that...

  • haha, that woulb insane :D

good idea though, that would be the next classic album cover :P

  • instrumential, it's so fucking awesome. Love Dream Theater as a band, but James is a horrible singer. Not generally, but compared to DTs music, i fucking hate him:P There u have one of the best or maybe the best musicians in the world, with a horse as a vocalist.. sad:P

  • I wish people like you would just shut the hell up! Don't you just love when people like you who don't know a shit about how singing works starts to completely bash LaBrie. James has constant voice problems on tour due to him rupturing his damn vocal cords back in the day.. James is brilliant, enough said.

  • Haha, at 7:50 Petrucci misses the tone! He's a human too! ;)

  • LaBrie was still recovering from vocal surgery during this. Of course he sounds like crap.

  • i recon is voice his nice and light a bit diferent

  • they kicked metallica's ass!

  • its awesome!

  • only and forever METALLICA!!!

  • DT are just too good... this sounds so clean...

    still damn awesome.

  • Everyone on stage but JP and JM seem bored! Till they came to the instrumental.. Rudess-Petrucci lead KICKS ASS!!!!

  • He still had a vocal cord rupture he was struggling from, as this proves.

  • I have to agree... His singing is horrible, and I love Dream Theater. Many notes he hit... just doesn't sound right...

  • hmm yes that fuckin right. sounds like his fucked up or something

  • He did sing right on though! He just doesn't have very good tone...

  • good singer - bad voice ...just like ozzy! lol perfect cover of an awesome song tho!! singing wouldnt've been so bad if the gain was a little lower on the mic too, he's so lond he's distorting himself in places...

  • The vocals are really horrid....uuurghh

  • The guitar parts almost seemed too technical and precise if you know what I mean. They shouldn't have played it so staccato. Also, I really didn't like his voice for this song; it made me cringe, knowing that Hetfield now could probably even do a better job on vocals.

  • uma bosta

  • uma bosta

  • I think they did a great performance of this album. You had to be there, and I was! I was the one that shot this show and edited it! It was great, hopefully someday the full show can be released.

  • yeah Master of puppets is nothing complex at all, it has a few moments but with these guys playing it i bet they're just really bored.

  • Cut them a break, they played it once and had to squeeze full band rehearsals in pieces in on sound checks. They were probably a bit nervous doing it in full live. Being careful not to goof up. After all, its the LIVE recording for Portnoys Bootlegs they wanted it for. Dream Theater Rules. 20 years of Metal.

  • i wonder how they sat around and tryed to figure out a keyboard part

  • Lol they probably just locked him in a room with nothing but a keyboard and the CD and told him he had 30 mins to make a part before the show

  • Master of Puppets is relitively simple...

  • Exactly, I'm a big fan of Metallica and that's a very easy song. Dream Theater isn't even a band I listen to, but I can tell this is too simple for them, hence their bordem.

  • vocals suck, rest cool.

dream theater is godlike band ;) but metallica is unique

dt's performance is ok but it's nothing special

    no spirit ;)

  • Simple shit ? Let's see you play Puppets; come on, upload a video of yourself playing Master of Puppets. I wanna see how "simple" it is. ^_~

  • what a bunch of fags... they're all just standing there.. i've seen more lively funeral homes

  • well you can go have fun at you britney spears or justin timberlake concerts but unless your playing KISS, its about all about the music, not the hype and gimmicks

Anyways, these guys could be playing this simple shit whilst being operated on so i think their just bored

  • Ergh :P James sounds horrible here. Is it just cos this stuff isn't really in his range, or is it cos of his voice being in bad shape?

  • When James Hetfield recorded this he had a high voice, so Labrie has to raise his voice pitch a bit to song this also.

  • j'ai toujours détesté ce que représente Dream Theater, de la branlette musciale et technique, mais là, comment a-t-on pu les laisser faire cet outrage à Metallica ?

  • Didnt Petrucci teach Hammet?

  • Satriani did

  • Malmsteen did, as well.

  • Cool!! (:o)

  • Metallica should be fookin honoured

  • C'est vraiment une grosse merde !!! dream theater à la rue total !!!

  • Petrucci's playing wasn't too great if you compare it to Hetfield or Hammett, honestly :F Even I can play the opening riff a lot better than Petrucci. Seems like Metal isn't the thing for him.

  • lol noob

  • ha you fucken joking. Im sure petrucci can do this in his sleep. he owns hetfield and hammet.

  • Just saying that he didn't play the song too well...

  • Well, he have been playing in a metalband for 20 years! Wake up!!

  • If you read Guitar World some time, it says John Petrucci was voted best guitarist in the USA in 1994(I think). The whole band is amazing. James Labrie though, he's losing his touch. Sad... I love James's singing.

  • lol its a tribute - notice the metallica shirts they were wearing?

And at least the drummer can play it better the Ulrich nowdays.

I think the singers accent is what kind of ruins it.

  • err i dont think they should do that again

  • Being a huge fan of both bands, I think it's silly to compare and complaint about who does what better... Hey, they're just palying a cover from a band they like.. I actually think it's a great version, especially the way Jordan Rudess plays the acoustic part and some of the solo...

  • I think they should put more feeling on that, they're like statues playing...

  • Hammet relies on the wah-wah pedal too much. To say metallica ruined thrash seems unfair to me. It exemplified a trend and made a few good albums before selling out and producing inferior material. Nothing to hate them for.

  • God you people are silly. LAbrie isn't a douche, he had food poisoining on a vacation and ended up throwing up and damaging his vocal chords. It's a fact and affected his skill on many live records. That's why he sounds bad. And tbh this song is too easy for petrucci, but whatever. Dream theater do a technically better song then metallica, so surprise.

  • jp fucks kirk.mp fucks lar$ ulRICH

  • Portnoy is good. The rest suck trying to play metallica. No attitude at all. Petruccis rhythmwork sucks.

  • No. If anything, Petrucci made it sound tighter and cleaner.

  • I really hate his voice.....thats why i cant like anything they have ever done....apart from train of thought, the music is really good on that.

  • Yeah LaBrie's voice's kinda not suitable for Metallica stuff... annoying I'd say. He's much better with DT stuff though.

  • LaBrie's voice perfectly suits DT. Name anybody who would be a better fit.

  • LaBrie can't sing Metallica for shit. It's "fix me" not "speak to me". Also, Portnoy and Nyung are the only ones with the Metallica style. Petrucci is trying to play it like it's a test. If you wanna make it a true Metallica tribute, you need at least 50 clicks or pick glitches in the song. Petrucci minimized em...shame, shame Mr. Perfect. :-D Anyway...still, nobody does it better than Metallica.

  • lol LaBrie sucks, I love dream theater but i think every true fan of thiers can admit that they wouldnt have such a "gay vibe" happening if LaBrie wasnt such a douche

  • Gay vibe? Charlie Dominici was a loooooooot more gay than James.

  • No Posing, just good handcraft!

  • BTW, Petrucci nailed those solos perfectly!

  • I wonder how Mike Pornoy feels to sink down to Lars Ulrich's level of drum playing =\

  • HA! I was thinking the exact same thing, I'm sure you can see him shed a tear over the other parts of his massive drumset he isn't using.

  • hahah ^

  • Metallica should be tied down and forced to watch this over and over until they promise not to suck anymore.

  • Awesome band covering an awesome song.

  • weeee:D

  • ahh yeaa damn right

  • omfg this is awesome!!!

  • FUCK YEEAAAAAAH, Dream Theater picked the perfect band to cover.

  • HELL YEAH!
