  • i really dont get why they put these cars against each other because its not exactly a fair test, what i mean by that is yes the focus gas more power but the megan has less weight so why not do the test on the same tyres, everyone knows that decent rubber can account for a few seconds a lap. my suggestion is they run a 'fair' test ie, same day, same driver and same tyres then it'll be closer

  • Focus is a straight line car in a long straight track due to its pure power (and it HAS power!). Megane has better overall performance and better accel than Focus due to it's low weight and extras. After all, I think no matter how many improvements Ford puts on it's Focus... Megane is, has been and will be it's headache.

  • Learn to drive, too early, clumping the corners then blaming it on oversteer. If you can drive you do not need to bump the hazard bumps etc. This idiot does it all the time. Love to see him in a Sunbeam Lotus, he would cry to mummy. Heavy engine????? Too much power and steering not the alloy based engine.

  • Both brands wanted to make te quickest front wheel drive car. Ford gave the RS 306 hp and Renault took another approach and stripped the car. Renault won this battle and then you have people who don't like to see the Ford being defeated hands down. Accept this....but I also think the Ford has the better looks.

  • Agreed with most people here about saying the R26R is a track car and the RS is a day to day car. This is why Renault have the R26 F1, not as light but there is plenty of seconds to spare between the two. On the open road being windy country and mountain roads of Wales for me, I have driven both cars and the grip from the Renault is amazing/astonishing. The RS was not bad considering it has all that power through the front. Anyway the difference was that much better I decided to buy the R26.

    Megane R26R is not a day to day car. Both the Megane R26R and 250-RS can only deliver high performance if they do not have any additional weight

    If you were to start adding passengers, luggage etc you would see the performance of both Meganes drop dramatically incomparison to the Focus RS

  • Maybe you must see the new Megane RS with 250 HP.... and the next version with 275 HP more radical. New Megane RS with Cup Chasis, cost less than 30.000 € in Europe. Maybe, it can be slower than Ford, but is more handle, precise, and effective driving experience. Better quality in the interior, and tons of sexy style outside. Not only power is needed for enjoy.

  • The new Megane RS is not only going to be less powerful but is also going to be heavier than the Focus RS

    Focus RS already has an upgrade to 340bhp and they are working on 370+bhp

    Suppose the Focus RS had less bhp to the Megane RS it would be just as the above video all to do with power to weight ratio thus the Focus RS would still own the Megane RS

    FACT chassis / handling in their classes Ford is superior:

    KA owns the twingo

    Fiesta owns the clio

    Focus owns the megane

    R26R could have any body/shell put over it, if can be any car, it could have had a Clio body put over it!

    Megane is a hatch-back that is comfortable, rear seats, cd-player etc

    Hot-hatch is the top spec hatch-back with a powerfuler engine and mods to the chassis/handling

  • For me a hot hatch is not some stripped out car which is what the r26r is, I hoenstly can't think of 1 hot hatch that has ever been this way. The focus on the other hand can still be used for your everyday tasks and also comes with all the comforts etc that you expect from a modern car, and then if inclined you blast it home when you want:). If I want a pure track day car there are better and cheaper road legal options than either of these. For a everday fun car my money would go with the RS.

  • I think the Renault would be a fun track car, but crowing about outrunning a comfortable 5 seater with a plastic- windowed 2 seater seems like boasting that you beat somebody's M5 with your Corvette. Not all that impressive.

  • 1.- Megane r26r the fastest front-wheel car ever at Nurburing (8:17..). Here 3 full seconds faster than RS.

    2.- You RS people really see yourselves getting at work or at some nice place for dinner in an apple green, super sporty, the fast and the furious type of car?? No, right?? That's because this Focus is primarly made for fun=TRACK, and for that matter the Megane is MUCH better.

    Ps: if you're not going to race it might as well get a regular Focus ST with radio and air...

  • R26R gets the 8:17 time on semi slicks tyres, the same happens on this track and that is moraly wrong!

    The focus RS is quick , pretty and full equiped, best valeu for money.

    The R26R just can be used as a second car becouse its a plastic bag LOL . Many people would prefer a lotus before an R26R for example.

    Overall , focus RS better than megane R26R.

  • A lotus?? come on man now you're just being funny... for that kind of money (50000 to 56000 euros) for a good lotus you're better of with an R26R maddly tuned and it'd still be cheaper.

    And i'm not saying the Focus RS is a bad car, i like it but i wouldn't buy it because i think those cars are for having fun, they aren't classy and sofisticated they're mad hatchbacks and for that matter you're better off in the R26R...

  • R26R = track car

    R26R is not a hot-hatch nor what would be considered a standard road car.

    Renault are due to release a Megane RS (hot-hatch) which is less powerful and of a similar weight. This car should be compared against the Focus RS!

    R26R = trakc car and thus should be compared to a Lotus!

  • I agree it's a track car but you can't compare it against a lotus because the cheapest Elise is 40,000 euros and R26R is 30,000.

    On the other hand the megane 3 rs hasn't got a price tag yet but if it is anything under Focus RS's 33000 euros anyone would rather buy that. Even though the focus is at 4.8kg/hp and the megane is at 5.4 kg/hp...

    The thing is Renault > Ford as far as sportscars.

  • Totaly agree with you riothero313! This two cars do not drive in the same league at all. Megane sport r26 is the right competitor but without slicks, roll cage and 150 kg more than r26r is obviously behind focus (and some test in magazines confirm that). I repeat, I don t prefer focus but the car is just wonderful. Last 2 years megane r26 was top notch but now ford has a great deal with this one...

  • Nobody comment on tires!!! Toyo r888 is semi slick tire! It would be proper test if these two cars would be equiped with equal tires. I was once testing the diference between road tires and semi slicks. The diference is huge, you feel like you are driving totaly diferent car. Response and quickness in turning are 1/3 better, r888 doesn t roll at all, you have very precise picture what s going on with car. In some corners speed was 10-20 km/h higher!

  • Everything is increased just by a tire change. Lateral grip, traction out of the corner and braking power. I agree, putting semi-slicks on one and normal dry/wet weather tires on the other isn't that fair. The focus has more power AND less tire so that's not going to help traction. Not to mention how much the roll cage helps stiffen the chassis when the focus has a back seat.

  • This review makes absolutely no sense what so ever. How can you compare the R26R to the RS? The R26R is a stripped out race car. Strip out the Focus and Run again and you'll see who wins.

  • el megane es una edicion especial, ignorante no es un carro para diario, esperemos a ver la nueva generacion del megane sport y despues hablas pero por ahora hay q esperar, ah y otra cosa el r26r fue hecho para despedir la generacion anterior del megane no para competir directamente con el pedazo d focus como dices tu, ahora q todo mundo lo haya visto d esa manera, pero d todas maneras el focus tiene q respetar al r26r ah y si te quedan dudas ve el nuevo video d top gear r26r vs focus rs

  • yo creo que los slicks claro que se tienen que notar,pero tambien se tienen que notar los 75cv que tiene de mas el focus y no se ven por ningun sitio,hay otra comparativa como esta con un clio,con el chasis cup,y en las rectas se separa algo el focus,pero en las curvas literalmente se come el clio al focus

  • También se notan los kilos de menos en el megane r26r, no hay que modificar los coches pero sí las llantas, el focus pesado pero más poder y el r26r menos potencia pero también menos peso! Debe tenerse en cuenta que ya se comprobó que el r26r pierde 0,5 seg/Km si no usa los Toyo, saque sus cuentas

  • Gran parte de la diferencia se debe indiscutiblemente a los SEMI SLICKS que monta el megane. Sin ellos la diferencia de los dos coches en el Ring es sólo de 1 SEGUNDO (por ahora) , o sea que un "ballenato" de casi 1500Kg le ruge muy de cerca al R26 Radicalizado para ser un coche desarrollado como dice Renault para romper cronos en circuitos! Lo mismo pasaría en este circuito de montar también el focus llantas de competición

  • Hombre la principal diferencia es que el R26R está pensado para TrackDays y el Focus RS no... se ve claramente que el chasis del Megane es mucho más rígido, a parte de que unos semislicks siempre ayudan a bajar tiempos.

    Pero si es verdad que, aunque desde dentro no lo aparenta, en la vista exterior el conductor parece algo brusco, como si frenara muy tarde y demasiado fuerte haciendo trazadas muy angulosas... no sé...

  • Lo han comparad con la versión nrmal del R26 y te aseguro que para tener 70 caballos mas no logra una diferencia important, pro clar,la versión normal tiene un diseño de 2004 y no se vende ni se vendió cmo se vende el RS,q según la marca Yanki sería la rferencia absoluta entre los compactos y no lo es, si no entiendes algo así tienes un problema. Si esperaban ser la referencia con un modelo como el Rs que es un gran coche x otro lado, no lo han logrado, nada mas, que le pongan a dieta

  • Ya, pero los señores de Ford lo vendieron antes de salir como el mejor compacto del mundo, que sería la revolución y el mas rápido y un Megane basado en el diseño del megane rs del 2oo4 le moja la oreja una y otra vez y eso teniendo en cuenta el maravilloso tren delantero desarrollado por los señores de ford, pues bien, dos segundos por vuelta son un mundo, por cierto, en otras pruebas llevando el megane ruedas normales también le deja en ridículo.
