I live in the GTA and I leave the doors unlocked during the day, at night I lock them. I grew up in a small town during the 80s/90s, and we never locked our house or cars. I guess times are different though, because everyone I know lock their doors always
I live in Vancouver and I always keep my doors locked. In the summertime when we have the door opened with just the screen door, my parents usually lock the screen door. I don't really know anyone that keeps their doors unlocked.

I always lock my door, and I live in a suburb of Toronto. So I don't know who in Toronto he was talking to. Although, it's true that if I'm home I leave the door unlocked - but if it's night time or I'm going to be sleeping or leaving the house - I lock up. I understand people from Sarnia and other small towns/ rural communities not locking their doors, I guess. But if their house was broken into, most people I know would start locking their doors.
