  • Marty, you are badass! I love your lessons.

  • So by using the "Dmajor chord" in an "E" major based song is that a mixolydian "scale"?

from a theory standpoint or is it just what they call an "accidental"

I think its great when Marty adds that info in like he did regarding the F#

    thanks for the great video

  • You gotta love Marty, makes practicing and learning the guitar fun… And I love this song, the live acoustic version is awesome and I have been wanting to learn it, THANKS MARTY

  • I like your hat. where did you get your hat?

  • vielen Dank!!!

    absolut geniale Lesson!!!

gruß aus Deutschland an der Mosel;)!!

  • thanks Marty

  • great job man, your eyes are tellin me that the weed was great too.

  • Another good one, thanks.

  • Thanx for all the help and keep up the good work....

  • One great thing about Marty's videos is that the guitar parts aren't miked up super loud compared to the vocals. Some lessons you can't hear the commentary, so you turn up the volume and then get blasted when they play the guitar. Marty is perfectly balanced with guitar and vocals.

  • pick that G#minor/E chord quick and you'll get the RHCP - Snow riff tune :)

  • Hey Marty I discovered the F#minor/E chord on a site which called it a A6/9 E chord. Regardless of what its called its a very beautiful chord, just wondering if you could clear up why you call it an F they call it an A in the second inversion.

Your videos as always are ultra helpful.

    Cheers

  • @SimonEdward123 That's just the way music theory is. One chord has several names depending on what you want to call it, or what key you are in.

An F/G chord: 3x3211...is also a G11 chord. An Am7 chord: 5x555x...could also be called C/A. Music theory is crazy and endless.

  • very very helpful....thanks for the post

  • LoL. I knew almost the whole song already. I was watching to learn the bridge...... What a tease. Did the video get cut early? Is there a continuation?

  • where that confounded bridge?

  • Thanks Marty. After 30 years, I finally learned how to play Melissa. Simplifying the F#minor/E chord really helped, and laying out the unusual strumming pattern cinched it. Thanks!

  • Hi Santana811, the site where I started learning guitar is FREECHORDS (dot) INFO , very helpful indeed, watch some of the videos on there and you will be on your way mate, without a doubt.

  • bro... u great !!!!

  • brilliant lesson marty as always. thanks

  • Thank you, I just subscribed...

  • marty! your schwartz is bigger than mine!

  • @grossboy517 HAHA that's hilarious! i gotta go watch space balls now

  • Marty,

Keep up the good work. You do a great job of explaining a chord progression.

    Thanks

  • Hey Marty, I wanted to learn how to play Melissa, but I thought you wouldn't have a lesson for it. So I just did a regular search and there you were! So cool. I like your videos and would rather watch one from you. Yours are very clear and easily understood. Thanks for posting! BTW - where's the bridge? Thanks.

  • haha my namess melissa.....do u think it would be conseated to learn tat song loll

  • dude!...i made up a song a while back that sounds EXACTLY like the first thing u showed...same strumming pattern and everything...i was like..."SOME ONE STOLE MY SONG!"..lol..but im pretty sure millions of ppl have thought of it before me anyway...it was just weird..lol..great videos by the way :D

  • Hey Marty, don't waste time responding to the few motherless pieces of shit that come on here and talk smack about strumming patterns and chords etc..jsut keep posting for those of us who appreciate a great ""free'''' lesson.

  • I am fairly advanced and glad I found you, just heard this song on the radio yesterday and said there'es another one I want to learn. Can you just play it now through its entirety so I can follow along. Can you sing it as well, thanks

  • Bridge Try ..E,D,A,B, C#m A, Then hold the B for about 5 beats then back to E progresson

  • Has anybody seen the bridge? Where's that confounded bridge? lol

  • Thanks very much man- for such a great song it's really hard to find a lesson on...at least with the correct chords.

  • Sweet Lessons Dude! Any Dave Matthews?

  • You, sir, are awesome. I learned the beginning part of this in like, three minutes. Thanks!

  • nevermind... now i see why... I don't know what i was thinking...my short fingers require the middle finger on g (for E) approach

  • i can't figure out why you start out with that fingering on E...I find it easier starting with the more standard index on G fingering...Anyway, as always, thanks a lot, man!! I'm learning so much from your way of teaching...It's such a good feeling when everything starts clicking and i find myself doing things that seemed impossible just months ago...I am HOOKED on this damn instrument!!! ;))
