After playing guitar on my own for 20 years and trying to learn on my own in that time, when ever I need a push, help or a decent lick, I always end up on this guys site and I always get what I need. This guy is good.
U ARE AN AMAZING TEACHER :) SOOOoooo wunderful:) just sitting in front of my pc..and playing it too:) and hey...it SOUNDS GREAT!!:)THANK YOU ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
marty i've been watching you videos for a whil and now i can actually pick up a guitar and feel comftorable playing it in front of ppl. thank you so much and keep up the great work XD
Marty- i have a boatload of you You tubes and Packaged lesson , and i am always learning from each as i replay. band mate. like - no fuss.no bother- no talking back, or something like that... you and your approach to teaching is approach is great for me. I really enjoy your lessons, and it has been great watching you progress an stay in touch w/ your national base.
Thanks Marty, one of my favorite lessons... just keep coming to this one, so much passion in this lesson. You can clearly see you love this song. This is the lesson that hooked me on "Marty" & Guitar Jamz!
hey marty just wanted to say thanks you got me playing again and id love to see a video on the Eagles Life in the fast Lane if you get a chance i think it would be fun to play and you seem to make things easy thanks for all you do again . Scott in TN
I'm not quite ready for this finger manip., yet, though, great lesson as usual Marty!
Hey teach! I picked up a guitar for the first time ever in April 2010 as a snowboarding crash stopped me from work. Most of my lessons are from your chan. I'm almost ready to post a couple of covers. Can't thank you enough! I know, yes I can, buy your cd's. Hope to soon.
This guy's so thorough that even a complete novice would be able to play this. Hey Marty, you're friigin great. I had a problem with later on chords in the tune and you were able to jog my memory too be able to do what I had to do in my part.
A heartfelt thank you for your help Peace Out BRO from BROKEN6STRING/newyork
woah marty i love your videos!! i signed up and got lots of vid in my email watched everyone. just cant get enough of your blues lessons watched most of your vids but im ten and dont have the money to buy your vid "sigh" but so far ive learnt all my guitar stuff from you your the man marty i mean it !
You gotta love Marty, makes practicing and learning the guitar fun… And I love this song, the live acoustic version is awesome and I have been wanting to learn it, THANKS MARTY
One great thing about Marty's videos is that the guitar parts aren't miked up super loud compared to the vocals. Some lessons you can't hear the commentary, so you turn up the volume and then get blasted when they play the guitar. Marty is perfectly balanced with guitar and vocals.
Hey Marty I discovered the F#minor/E chord on a site which called it a A6/9 E chord. Regardless of what its called its a very beautiful chord, just wondering if you could clear up why you call it an F they call it an A in the second inversion.
LoL. I knew almost the whole song already. I was watching to learn the bridge...... What a tease. Did the video get cut early? Is there a continuation?
Thanks Marty. After 30 years, I finally learned how to play Melissa. Simplifying the F#minor/E chord really helped, and laying out the unusual strumming pattern cinched it. Thanks!
Hi Santana811, the site where I started learning guitar is FREECHORDS (dot) INFO , very helpful indeed, watch some of the videos on there and you will be on your way mate, without a doubt.
Hey Marty, I wanted to learn how to play Melissa, but I thought you wouldn't have a lesson for it. So I just did a regular search and there you were! So cool. I like your videos and would rather watch one from you. Yours are very clear and easily understood. Thanks for posting! BTW - where's the bridge? Thanks.
dude!...i made up a song a while back that sounds EXACTLY like the first thing u showed...same strumming pattern and everything...i was like..."SOME ONE STOLE MY SONG!"..lol..but im pretty sure millions of ppl have thought of it before me anyway...it was just weird..lol..great videos by the way :D
Hey Marty, don't waste time responding to the few motherless pieces of shit that come on here and talk smack about strumming patterns and chords etc..jsut keep posting for those of us who appreciate a great ""free'''' lesson.
I am fairly advanced and glad I found you, just heard this song on the radio yesterday and said there'es another one I want to learn. Can you just play it now through its entirety so I can follow along. Can you sing it as well, thanks
You've got a nice playing style, and thanks for a great lesson, but don't think we didn't notice that you kept giving us the finger while you were playing.
Marty, you made this song possible for me to play. I was trying it another way and it was much harder. Thank you for taking the time to show people how to play this a much easier way. I'm playing this with my Taylor guitar and boy does it sound niiiiiiiiice. Awesome Job!
i can't figure out why you start out with that fingering on E...I find it easier starting with the more standard index on G fingering...Anyway, as always, thanks a lot, man!! I'm learning so much from your way of teaching...It's such a good feeling when everything starts clicking and i find myself doing things that seemed impossible just months ago...I am HOOKED on this damn instrument!!! ;))

So by using the "Dmajor chord" in an "E" major based song is that a mixolydian "scale"?
from a theory standpoint or is it just what they call an "accidental"
I think its great when Marty adds that info in like he did regarding the F#
thanks for the great video

SimonEdward123 1 year ago
@SimonEdward123 That's just the way music theory is. One chord has several names depending on what you want to call it, or what key you are in.
An F/G chord: 3x3211...is also a G11 chord. An Am7 chord: 5x555x...could also be called C/A. Music theory is crazy and endless.
