@wigwamman1 BTW, I'm not talking about standard mags. I'm talking about the "real" extended mags. Why? B/c: They limit concealment, you look like you're a nutjob about to embark on a killing rampage (not good), they are far more likely to malfunction (I know through experience) then a standard mag, I and only need enough bullets to get me out of a dangerous situation.
FINALLY I've been waiting for this since before Bill Ruger died and here I just found out they went and did a 1911, and have this great video talking about it. Thanks Ruger. You Win!
Yeah it IS rather new to see the Ruger symbol on the 1911 and it's great. It'll be nice to see how people customize them and I can't wait to see people compete with them. R.I.P Bill. I knew Ruger would take care of this about a decade ago. : ) Thanks for post. Good news.
hey dont know if you have an answer to this, but i picked up a box of .45acp brass the other day from the gun range and it had about a half dozen .45 acp with small pistol primers. these i have never seen or heard of before. i have been reloading for 10 years and have never seen or heard of a .45 acp small pistol primer, always larger ones. do you have any info on this
In your opinion which do you think is best not considering cost. Springfield Loaded w/ the novak sights in SS or the Ruger SR1911?? Much Appreciated in advance to all opinions !! cant make up my mind
@Copenhagen383 I actually bought myself a Springfield 1911 Loaded with Trijicon sights and I love it. Shoots real nice and feels great in the hand. Was a bit pricey at 923 dollars all told but its as custom as a stock pistol can be without being untastefull. Hoped this helped.
I think that you are a great guy and you have really good videos only second to FPS russia, I appreciate the video as I am very interested in getting this gun , I think I made up my mind. keep those videos pumping out they are cool , wish I was your neighbor , then again I would have to quit my day job lol.
My SR1911 arrived today, can't wait to pick it up! Love watching your videos, I'm going to need to study your 1911 cleaning video a few times, as I'm used to only breaking down Glocks and XDs...
thank you for the advice. all thou i really like the 1911's, i feel like im taking away what 1911's are really made of by going for one thats capable of shooting 9mm. im a pretty big guy i guess ima have to see whats best fit for me.
@joecrack456 I've been shooting rifles all my life and I thought "A .45 is nothing compared to a rifle" but I was wrong. In my opinion you might want to shoot with a handgun you might try a lower caliber. Especially if you're new.
i saw that you have a lc9 sitting there i havnt looked too hard but i was curious if you have a review on it i own one and love it but would love your opinion
"Funny thing, you have to hit em' before they fall..." Great commentary! Awesome shooting! I've been able to put a few rounds through a Ruger 1911 and I cant wait to get my hands on my own. Keep up the good work!
437 round and front sight broke off. ruger sent new sight and told me to either attemp to do it myself or pay a gun smith to do it. great gun but copany was not helpful
I really enjoy your gun reviews! I would love to see you review the newer Smith & Wesson 1911 E Series. This is going to be my first gun purchase and I really enjoy shooting the gun (I've tried it at my local shooting range). Love to know how it compares to the Ruger 1911 you compare here.
@Lvl22nerd, Not sure. I think unless you pay almost $1,000.00 for a Colt or custom gun (Ed Brown, Wilson, etc.) you're going to get some MIM parts. Even Colt uses a few now, I think. Not sure. I believe I've seen an outline of all this MIM business by manufacturer over at one of the 1911.com sites.
Got mine this week! Hope to test it out this weekend. Beautiful gun, I actually sold my SA mil spec 1911 to get this Ruger. I wanted an American made 1911 on the 100th anniversary.
Hey Hickok, I have a couple of Para 1911 Mags for a LTC I have, that don't fit in my Ed Brown Kobra Carry. Have you had any experience with this or know why?
this gun is probably one of the highest quality.lowest cost 1911's on the market. when you start to compare them, there isn't much to argue about on that subject. I'm considering selling a Kimber Warrior. For what I can get I could buy this gun and a glock!
I like your presentation. I like your candid commentary. Nice range. As a dealer, I'm told by my Ruger rep that I am currently on a 6 month back order list to get my allocation. I think I'll keep one of these SR1911s for myself. It looks like a fine gun for the money. The trigger and hammer looks alot like Para's 1911 Black Ops.
@tk4227 if only you knew what you where talking about, SR1911's are Dirt cheap for what they are. They are by no means expensive. You couldn't even buy one right now if you were dying for it. I've been on a waiting list since early May and still haven't received mine. They only produce 250 a week, and are allocated... If you even understand what any of that means. Expensive? Hell no....
@106MMTurbo they go for 750-800 bucks a piece. So for me, thats expensive. You must be really rich if this is dirt cheap. You are a fucking idiot. WAIT LIST?? THERE IS NO WAIT LIST ON GUNBROKER.
@chaset371 well im sorry you obsess over 1911's. Stop buying guns and go get yourself a girlfriend instead...you would probably have to buy one of those also since your are so butt ugly.
@tk4227 I didnt know i was obsessing over a 1911s i just hate it when people dont know what they are talking about and call somone with more knowledge about guns than you will ever have and i have a girl freind. And iam amazed that you know what i look like with out seeing me come up with a real argument then come talk to me when you mature a little bit more get out of elmentary school.
I don't currently own a 1911, but with Ruger putting one out that appears to work pretty well from your video and at the price they are selling it for, I'm very tempted to put it on my 'to purchase' list.
I love mine. I ordered the Ruger black diamond wood grips and it looks fantastic. With the black grips and black accents on the stainless frame/slide. One sweet shooter.
Hickock, Hey it's the Honda guy again. I'm seriously considering a new Colt Commander 1911 or one of these. Which is the better of the two in your opinion. I know that there is a considerable cost difference between the two however I like to save when I can. Thanks! P.S. When the Element get's a little to cramped the new Pilots sure are nice! haha later...
Sweet gun, but what's impressive is your shooting and the accuracy of the gun...very impressive. I don't imagine you'll ever starve, providing you don't run out of ammo! LOL
Excellent video as always. We can always count on you to give us I depth honest reviews of every product you handle. 1 question how does it compare to the Taurus PT1911 I'm a little torn between the two of them.
Got mine a month ago, shoots the best of all my guns. Perfectly sighted right out of the box. I wish I'd bought a 1911 first! Great video, but he spends more on mags than most people spend on guns!!! I'm just jealous. Awesome range too!
the really nice thing is the barrel and the slide are made from the same piece of stainless stock. For most that means nothing, for people that know metal, it means a lot! Again, great review!
Is it just me, or isn't it just a bit strange that people give a thumbs down for Hickok's stuff? Like, ten at the time of my viewing this Ruger review. What are they expecting? A catalogue for women's shoes? Baking techniques? Kiddies' cartoons? Philosophical debates? Whoever they are, they should either learn how to type searches properly, or more likely get a life. This is the twentieth Hickok clip I've watched today and I've yet to get bored or note anything negative. I'm just sayin...
I have a feeling if you lined up all 3 next to one another and handled them back to back to back, you'd go with the Ruger. The overall tightness and fit and finish of the SR is by far, superior, to the Remington and the Magnum Research. Plus, IMO, it looks the best. The stainless is BEAUTIFUL on this gun. I have a Kimber that was my Winter carry and this puts rounds down range just as accurately as a gun that cost me more than double.
@dennisndodie I would go with the Ruger. To me the Remington is an odd bird, because it has the short trigger, but has the flat mainspring housing and extended beavertail. If I go with a 1911 I like it to be similar to the original 1911 or the 1911A1. Overall I'm sure all three are good firearms, but the Ruger I think offers more over both.
@Weaponcollecter16 ruger has ben makeing 1911 parts for years and diffrent meany brands not shure who but they took the best of all that they have done and put them together and came out with a perfict gun i have one and i love it i got mine for like $700 and ithink its worth $1500 its realy grate i heard thir comeing out with a .22mag target gun
I have never had any major probloms with any ruger firearm, i would have to say the were my all time favorate, i know others may have had different experiences but to me they have treated me well and i cant wait to try out the SR1911 looks like a sweet little piece of hardware ;)
liked the slow motion at the end!!!! How about slow motion on the bullets hitting the gong? It looked like we could see the going threw the air as they slammed into the gong.
THX for this great video!
What distance do you have at this round gong in the rear?

Awesome Range! Very Jealous! Sweet 1911!

Got mine a month ago, shoots the best of all my guns. Perfectly sighted right out of the box. I wish I'd bought a 1911 first! Great video, but he spends more on mags than most people spend on guns!!! I'm just jealous. Awesome range too!

I can't get my hands on one! What's the hold up? I ordered mine 6 months ago and I've phone up most of the dealers in VA. Can anybody clue me in???
blackdot1128 4 months ago
@blackdot1128 Holdup is a Ruger build quality semi auto without a ton of stupid safety features. The demand is massive.

I love that you can see the bullets when you're shootimg at the 80 yard gong.
SierraTangoGuns 4 months ago
how far is it from where you were shooting to the gong?
13thbass13 4 months ago
@13thbass13: I believe his gong is 80 yards from where he normally shoots, which is near the table.

the really nice thing is the barrel and the slide are made from the same piece of stainless stock. For most that means nothing, for people that know metal, it means a lot! Again, great review!

I got mine today :)

Which 1911 do like better the Remington R1 or the Ruger SR. Im also looking at the Desert Eagle 1911G. There all about the same price.
dennisndodie 5 months ago
@dennisndodie
I have a Kimber that was my Winter carry and this puts rounds down range just as accurately as a gun that cost me more than double.
rasey077 5 months ago
@dennisndodie I would go with the Ruger. To me the Remington is an odd bird, because it has the short trigger, but has the flat mainspring housing and extended beavertail. If I go with a 1911 I like it to be similar to the original 1911 or the 1911A1. Overall I'm sure all three are good firearms, but the Ruger I think offers more over both.

Just picked up my SR1911, feels great... the feed ramp looks a little rough though. We'll see how much I like it after I go to the range.

Like how you can see the round all the way to inpact on the long range shots. (16:06)

nice pistol...especially for the MSRP...i'm a sig man but also a glock fan...how's that sr1911 stack up to those in reliability for carry?
JimijamCam33 5 months ago
I have never had any major probloms with any ruger firearm, i would have to say the were my all time favorate, i know others may have had different experiences but to me they have treated me well and i cant wait to try out the SR1911 looks like a sweet little piece of hardware ;)

Does the SR1911 have a magazine disconnect? I think that is a silly feature on handguns.
derekmasuda 5 months ago
@derekmasuda It's built as a standard series 70 1911. No magazine safety, no firing pin safety. Extremely good value if you can find one.

liked the slow motion at the end!!!! How about slow motion on the bullets hitting the gong? It looked like we could see the going threw the air as they slammed into the gong.
