@ladyactor holy tits i didn't even say anything about u2. and i'm not blaming you for that classification. i'm just attacking the notion of calling real artists 'pop' artists, the same title affixed to miley cyrus and lady gaga
@ladyactor the classification of 'pop' is ludicrous. the monkees were a 'pop' band - created by a record label, with songs written by hired songwriters and instruments played by session musicians. squeeze were real artists - they played their own instruments, wrote their own music, and did both better than most other bands of higher regard. yet because their music is 'happy' and non-political society automatically pidgeon-holes them as 'pop'. same thing happened to duran duran
with you on the mcartney thing.incredibly talented.Loving squeeze too but probably too many talented musicians in one place. In my experience they never last for long .....
I'm 15, loves Squeeze for about 4 years now. I met Glenn Tilbrook last month & got my picture with him. I also met the drummer Simon Hanson, he is lovely really nice to fans. He spoke to him for about 20 mins and got 2 pictures with him. Along side McFly, Squeeze are my favorite band. They both put on amazing shows and are amazing to their fans.
Now The Squeeze are before my tim barely Every old song I rediscover is an instant classic for me. Cool For Cats should be a staple of cheese and school disco as much as Come On Eileine and Karma Chameleon, Up the junction should be on all the love song compilations... These timeless songs need a champion to get them mainstream!!
Lennon was ludicrously overrated. Turned more into an "icon" in the 70s rather than an artist of real stature. His solo records were mostly shite.McCartney got a lot of flak with Wings, but gimme his body of work ( with the obvious exceptions) over Lennon anyday....Anyway, Squeeze are classic and in a perfect world they should be selling out stadiums , not fucking U2, Robbie Williams or Hannah Montana
@deathfromabove77 Not true, John Lennon was hated during the 70s, thats why his records never sold. John became an icon again when he died in 1980. His records weren't shite, as much as I love Squeeze, they are no where near his genius.
@deathfromabove77 well said. mccartney was always a better artist (of course lennon put out amazing stuff but on a whole mccartney is better - 'lennon is the lesser of two beatles'). after the beatles broke up, lennons ego got so bloated that he deluded himself into thinking he could create world peace by lying in bed all day, and his art suffered incredibly (make art now, protest later, i say). i just discovered squeeze, but i cant wait to find out more of their stuff. they and xtc kick ass.
@deathfromabove77 oh yeah, and fuck u2 for so many reasons, but especially for not putting out anything good since the joshua tree, for bono thinking his fucking ego holds the world together, and the edge for being pretentious enough to call himself 'the edge', and for being an incredibly overrated guitarist (anyone can sound good with enough reverb, echo and distortion, the real trick is to play well without those effects). our opinions are not very popular though, so lets be careful.
@deathfromabove77 I think its apples vs. oranges. I grew into the Lennon catalog and can only think of one record I don't listen to so much- absolutely cannot get into McCartney; he's a sanitized personality that translates accordingly into very "safe" music. He's an incredible technical talent though. And, with that said, we have what might have been the fire and gasoline that was Lennon/McCartney songwriting.
@deathfromabove77 true true, looking forward to some new material (other than spot the difference) from Squeeze - I heard a rumour some was on it's way.
in reply to u ppl who wonder why they aren't live top of the pops ddn't do real live performances till the 90's to bring back viewers who where sick of ppl just goin on and takin the piss lol
what sort of moron wrote that caption - you can see the resemblance between Tilbrook and C. Richard !!!! There is no resemblance whatever - Tilbrook is a highly talented singer/songwriter/musician. C. Richard is a talentless tit
3 decades on, and melodic hook-laden Squeeze songs like this still sound so superbly brilliant !!
Maybe they still could be commercial today if only they were marketed better? Glenn/Chris/Squeeze have fan-bases worldwide! They can out-play most guitar players in any of today's bands! They've deserved more success with their absolute mass of brilliant musical talent both as solo artists and as the great band SQUEEZE. Should be millionaires but I just don't think they're ever marketed properly.
My 5 year olds want to be rock stars too - hope their dreams come true. If they're anywhere near as talented as GT and the others, I'll be a happy mummy!!
Great song - fond memories. Back in the early eighties they were (rightly) hailed as the new Lennon and McCartney. Love this song. "You called my bluff, I'm not so hot..."
I'm a straight male and I fancy Glenn Tilbrook!

Stretching it a bit there. Squeeze were a great eclectic pop band but Lennon wrote some really cutting edge pop stuff for his era.
