the back judge had the angle on possesion and the head linesman had angle on if he was inbounds or not. Im an official in texas and looking at it he didnt have possesion but since we have no instant replay the officials in real time made the call im pretty sure the vast majority of the officials in texas would have made the same call in real time without instant replay
i just found out if a ref makes a bad call and messes up a game they send the team they screwed a letter after viewing it on film apologizing. im a football player at westlake and i asked my coach if he got a letter. he said oooooooooooo yyyyyyeaaaaaa

About a week after this game the ref's sent us a letter saying that the ball was loose and that it was not a TD but since it's highschool football you know...calls can't be reversed. Yeah it sucked but it's just been a constant reminder for us for what's rightfully ours and we're gonna take what's ours this season

It was not the announcer that said WL got screwed, it was the the person recording the game. On the contrary, both announcers for Fox calling the game said he controlled the ball, coupled with not one, but two officials, one inches away and the other feet away, all calling it was a touchdown. Two announcers and two refs called it right and thats the end of that story. WL is white, rich and sore losers.

between 28 and 29 seconds of this video the ball crosses the Touchdown line.. in possession. If you had much slower video capabilities, you could see that the knee of the player was also not down by contact... as it was after the ball crossed the plane. It is a touchdown.. regardless whether I live in Euless or Westlake.

For the sake of argument, it was incomplete. This play was on SECOND DOWN. Trinity still had two more downs to score, at the very least they get the simple feild goal to tie it. But by that late in the game, the Westlake D was tired from Trinity's run game, and I don't think they would have stopped them anyway. Receiver caught the ball, came down with one foot (establishing possession), then the ball was stripped away, but he never lost control of the ball. It's also unclear if he crossed the goal line before the ball was stripped away, but he never lost control of the ball.

Had that been called incomplete, Trinity would have run it in next play. Westlake def was so worn down Trinity was slammin the ball up their gut 5-7 yards a carry. Darren Allman could went for 2 and won that game. They did it earlier with ease. Allman didn't TRUST his offense to go 2 yards for 2 points, but chose to go to OT with a worn out def. Coach Lineweaver TRUSTED his def to make the stop and hold Westlake to 3 points, then trusted his offense to score the TD. Blame Allman not the refs.

I heard about this play, unfortunately I was unable to catch the game or a replay, but from what I heard it was a great game. IMO it was an incomlete catch, he did not have possession. I don't want to take anything away from the game by saying that, but it's kind of a crappy way to lose a game. Who knows what would have happened had it been ruled incomplete, how do you know the QB doesn't fumble the snap and westlake recovers? There are several ways the game could have panned out. ummm, yes. If you first gain control of the ball when your legs are touching out of bounds it is incomplete regardless of your back. I've already acknowledged that Trinity would've gone on to win the game anyway...but this was not a catch and all of you sound ridiculous and biased trying to defend it.
Here's the bottom line: It was not a catch and would've been reversed in about 3 seconds in a college game. Trinity fans should acknowledge this fact. That being said, Trinity would've still won the game. Westlake settled for a field goal in OT and Trinity would've still had a 3rd and 2 from the 15...they were running the ball with ease at this point and would've gone in for a TD. It was a horrible call, but would not have changed the outcome. Classic game though..hope for rematch in '10.

Regardless of all the missed calls, the non-calls, the dwindled 14 point lead, the 21 unanswered points by Euless...Westlake fought back to take a 3 point lead, showed character in doing so (that's why they play 4 qtrs, and didn't call the game after Westlake went up by 14). It is indisputable, the fact that ULTIMATELY the game was decided by a TD call that in simple terms, was not a completion. According to the rules of High School football, possession and 1 foot in is a necessity.

gottabighit1 u should learn ur football rules. he had possession of the ball as soon as he hit the ground. his back hit first and with the ball tucked he is automatically down. after he already scored then ball the came loose but it was too late cause the td happened already. it's like the ball breaking the plane then fumbling. it's a td before it was fumbled. westlake played great but was outplayed when it mattered. let it go cause Trinity is the state champs and u can't do anything about it.

haha i go to westlake guys and i'm gonna be a senior this year on the football team. About a week after this game the ref's sent us a letter saying that the ball was loose and that it was not a TD but since it's highschool football you know...calls can't be reversed. Yeah it sucked but it's just been a constant reminder for us for what's rightfully ours and we're gonna take what's ours this season

Westlake lost a good game, but his left hand was in the arms of the defender, his right hand was nowhere near the ball just before and during his foot landing out of bounds. Incomplete. And not to mention the ball rolling in the air all the way down.

It was not the announcer that said WL got screwed, it was the the person recording the game. On the contrary, both announcers for Fox calling the game said he controlled the ball, coupled with not one, but two officials, one inches away and the other feet away, all calling it was a touchdown. Two announcers and two refs called it right and thats the end of that story. WL is white, rich and sore losers.

between 28 and 29 seconds of this video the ball crosses the Touchdown line.. in possession. If you had much slower video capabilities, you could see that the knee of the player was also not down by contact... as it was after the ball crossed the plane. It is a touchdown.. regardless whether I live in Euless or Westlake.

For the sake of argument, it was incomplete. This play was on SECOND DOWN. Trinity still had two more downs to score, at the very least they get the simple feild goal to tie it. But by that late in the game, the Westlake D was tired from Trinity's run game, and I don't think they would have stopped them anyway. You're also neglecting the many bad calls made in favor of Westlake. Like not calling the safety for intentional grounding in the endzone maybe

@brand2416 You're right. In spite of what the Canadian ref (below) says, only one foot has to be down to establish control in Texas HS football (NCAA rules). Receiver caught the ball, came down with one foot (establishing possession), then the ball was stripped away, but he never lost control of the ball. It's also unclear if he crossed the goal line before the ball was stripped away, but he never lost control of the ball.

Had that been called incomplete, Trinity would have run it in next play. Westlake def was so worn down Trinity was slammin the ball up their gut 5-7 yards a carry. Darren Allman could went for 2 and won that game. They did it earlier with ease. Allman didn't TRUST his offense to go 2 yards for 2 points, but chose to go to OT with a worn out def. Coach Lineweaver TRUSTED his def to make the stop and hold Westlake to 3 points, then trusted his offense to score the TD. Blame Allman not the refs.

regardless if the was a bad call or not, to say that WL "was robbed" is completely false. Its basically blaming the ENITRE game on 1 call. WL wasnt getting "robbed" when they were up by 14. Had they held onto their lead, their wouldnt have been an OT. On the other hand, had the refs not thrown a bogus flag before the last seconds in regulation, that FG kick by Trinity wouldve ended the game in regulation.

Maybe. Who knows how it could've ended up if the refs had ruled it incomplete. Trinity could have fumbled a snap or thrown an interception on third down and things would have ended up very different. Its impossible to say anything. Either way, Trinity is one freak of a team. Westlake has everything to be proud about. High school football just teaches you that life isnt fair.

I heard about this play, unfortunately I was unable to catch the game or a replay, but from what I heard it was a great game. IMO it was an incomlete catch, he did not have possession. I don't want to take anything away from the game by saying that, but it's kind of a crappy way to lose a game. Who knows what would have happened had it been ruled incomplete, how do you know the QB doesn't fumble the snap and westlake recovers? There are several ways the game could have panned out. why pass? bc WestLake was expecting the run on 2nd and 4, hence the 1 on 1 coverage against our top reciever. our coaches outsmarted theirs when it mattered. we played harder and fought longer when it mattered. we didnt give up a 14 point lead. the better team and the team who wasnt even supposed to make it past 3rd round won.

Here's the bottom line: It was not a catch and would've been reversed in about 3 seconds in a college game. Trinity fans should acknowledge this fact. That being said, Trinity would've still won the game. Westlake settled for a field goal in OT and Trinity would've still had a 3rd and 2 from the 15...they were running the ball with ease at this point and would've gone in for a TD. It was a horrible call, but would not have changed the outcome. Classic game though..hope for rematch in '10.

Some of the interpretations:

Some are good, some are not. This one was good as is possible under the circumstances. Do not exchange refs for computers. And yes, Trinity wins by wearing the opposing team down. Always has, always will. AW played a great game. Don't ruin it by being a crybaby. Sometimes the other team wins.

Regardless of all the missed calls, the non-calls, the dwindled 14 point lead, the 21 unanswered points by Euless...Westlake fought back to take a 3 point lead, showed character in doing so (that's why they play 4 qtrs, and didn't call the game after Westlake went up by 14). It is indisputable, the fact that ULTIMATELY the game was decided by a TD call that in simple terms, was not a completion. According to the rules of High School football, possession and 1 foot in is a necessity.

and Trinity fought back to tie the game from being down 14 points. Not only that, that had to play against the refs as well. Maybe next year.

Bad Call: Receiver does not have control of ball before heel touches out of bounds.
Too bad for all the kids it ended like that..... Looked like a great game.

Quit baming your loss on ONE call. Blame it on failing to hold Trinitys offense down. Bame it on not holding onto a 2 posession lead after the half. Blame it on not taking advantage of not getting flagged for anything and bad clock management

1st off if u pause it at 0:42 his on his back ball on the stomach with his hand on top of it before rolling out. 2nd from the REFS POV in game speed its the rite call. 3rd trinity dont kick too many FGs (dont take a SWORD to a GUN FIGHT). 4th that SUPER RUN DEFENSE all WL fans was speaking HIGHLY of was EXPOSED (340 yds). 5th im not gonna say "even if it was INCOMPLETE we would still WIN" bc "IF" NOTHING!!! and ur wrong about being ROBBED bc trinity took IT the rite in FRONT of YALL...

That ball was floating all over the two boy's bodies from the half yard line till control was had at the END of the play, where Carter stands up out of bounds....but nice try. I did freeze it at 42 ...I have a better vid that show all from a different angle. I'll post it later. Simple call for both refs standing over the kid...Incomplete pass.

gottabighit1 u should learn ur football rules. he had possession of the ball as soon as he hit the ground. his back hit first and with the ball tucked he is automatically down. after he already scored then ball the came loose but it was too late cause the td happened already. it's like the ball breaking the plane then fumbling. it's a td before it was fumbled. westlake played great but was outplayed when it mattered. let it go cause Trinity is the state champs and u can't do anything about it.

Sorry if you don't understand the rules. Or don't want to acknowledge them.... I think interpretation "XV" speaks directly to this situations.
