@500TD500 We all know the PS Vita obviously has better technology, graphics and sound but the 3DS keeps it basic and did not try too hard like Sony did. In other words they wanted to try new things out rather than focus on graphics alone. Because I see the NGP as a failed attempt by Sony to overtake Nintendo. When I say the 3DS is better, I don't mean by graphics or technology, they are going to dominate sales and be at a point in which the Vita will never overtake it in the markets.

For example Killzone 3 on the PS3 is close to having the best graphics possible for any video game in the world, whereas a game like Final Fantasy VII has outdated and rather ugly looking visuals, but exceeds in being one of the best games in history mainly thanks to the soundtrack, gameplay and story.

And Sony copied Nintendo from the begining of their company, that's a fact. If you don't believe it just take some research and you get to know that Sony and Nintendo where ONE company once, until nintendo released the n64.. and than suddenly sony released the ps1, and they copied the idea of the analog stick, doubled the amount and voila it's like today

Both are different, 3DS doesn't have a touch panel on the back, doesn't have Sixaxis gyro, not sure about this one but does 3DS have 3G? dunno... They may have similar features, but Vita is more advanced in the technology, apart from 3D without glasses

I can tell you that the ngp is going to be an iffy situation because it takes new umd cartrages so the regular umds for psp 1000,2000,3000 wont work on the ngp unless the ngp has backwards compatibility like the 3ds which lets you play ds games

OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED AT E32011: the ps vita (ngp) will be $250 for the wifi version and $300 for the 3g + wifif. with the vita being the same price as the 3ds, nintendo's in for some trouble.
@Internetkiddy basically turns it into a smart phone. wifi can only be used near wireless routers, or wifi-ready locations like restaurants or stores. 3g allows any kind of wireless connection anywhere in at&t's coverage zones. like downloading apps, (small) games, connecting to the internet. so internet features on the go. wish they had gone with verizon instead of at&t because of the wider coverage and verizon has the xperia play.
I know I'll take heat for this. But does anyone else miss that short golden era where games were not just a vessel for quick buck gimmicks? There are plenty of stories and elements of gameplay still untouched and that will probably never be because all the companies are to busy trying to one-up each other with some new gimmick.
Anyhow I shall not be investing in a NGP. I have always disliked touch screen gameplay and giro-style interfaces. These features have no feedback at all, get the screen dirty and actually block the visuals which your eyes need to be seeing. D-pad/stick and buttons are by far the best interface...the way games are meant to be played. I do however like the idea of the touchpad controls on the back of the console...this is a good idea!
It's interesting to note the NGP is nowhere near as powerful as an XBOX 360 (don't expect to see Crysis 2/PGR4/Gears quality graphics) but its certainly a huge leap over the psp...which I think is a brilliant machine. The psp didnt flop at all. The design and games are all excellent. The psp Go was a mistake, especially considering you cannot trade back UMD games.
I dont understand Sony's logic here. The PSP didnt flop because it needed better tech. It flopped becasue there was little to no innovation and they were basically competing with themselves. Most gamers over the age of 12 use their portables at home, not on the go, and making a portable PS3 is just copying what they did with the PSP. Plus, portable consoles are on their way out.
Great tech, but I predict it will fail (unless they can price it competitively against the 3DS, which I doubt).
@GRKiller what are you basing this idea that portable gaming is on the way out? Other than random people in comments or rumor I've seen no indication of this whatsoever. No matter how much people love their consoles, there will always be a need for portables for travel and ease of use and whatnot (hell, college would suck without my PSP and DS). I can't image there will ever be a day when gaming companies just up and abandon the portable market.
@montblanc1 The failure of the PSP and PSP Go as well as the disappointing sales of the 3DS point to the trend of decling sales of portable dedicated gaming devices. The market has shown that people are wanting smaller games that can be played on the go on their iPhones or iPods rather than putting console games on a portable device. I can almost guaruntee you this will be the last generation of handhelds (at least for the next 10 or 15 years). Not saying I like it, it just how it is.

I can tell you that the ngp is going to be an iffy situation because it takes new umd cartrages so the regular umds for psp 1000,2000,3000 wont work on the ngp unless the ngp has backwards compatibility like the 3ds which lets you play ds games

@kedod1 Yep, you got them. I just hate how the dual analog sticks, the touch screen, the touche pad, and the gyro are stolen from Nintendo. Other than the touch screen, which MANY devices have,the only other similarity with the DS is probably...that it's portable. As always, thank you, Mr.Holmes.

OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED AT E32011: the ps vita (ngp) will be $250 for the wifi version and $300 for the 3g + wifif. with the vita being the same price as the 3ds, nintendo's in for some trouble.

@Internetkiddy basically turns it into a smart phone. wifi can only be used near wireless routers, or wifi-ready locations like restaurants or stores. 3g allows any kind of wireless connection anywhere in at&t's coverage zones. like downloading apps, (small) games, connecting to the internet. so internet features on the go. wish they had gone with verizon instead of at&t because of the wider coverage and verizon has the xperia play.

I know I'll take heat for this. But does anyone else miss that short golden era where games were not just a vessel for quick buck gimmicks? There are plenty of stories and elements of gameplay still untouched and that will probably never be because all the companies are to busy trying to one-up each other with some new gimmick.

Anyhow I shall not be investing in a NGP. I have always disliked touch screen gameplay and giro-style interfaces. These features have no feedback at all, get the screen dirty and actually block the visuals which your eyes need to be seeing. D-pad/stick and buttons are by far the best interface...the way games are meant to be played. I do however like the idea of the touchpad controls on the back of the console...this is a good idea!

It's interesting to note the NGP is nowhere near as powerful as an XBOX 360 (don't expect to see Crysis 2/PGR4/Gears quality graphics) but its certainly a huge leap over the psp...which I think is a brilliant machine. The psp didnt flop at all. The design and games are all excellent. The psp Go was a mistake, especially considering you cannot trade back UMD games.

I dont understand Sony's logic here. The PSP didnt flop because it needed better tech. It flopped becasue there was little to no innovation and they were basically competing with themselves. Most gamers over the age of 12 use their portables at home, not on the go, and making a portable PS3 is just copying what they did with the PSP. Plus, portable consoles are on their way out.
Great tech, but I predict it will fail (unless they can price it competitively against the 3DS, which I doubt).

@GRKiller what are you basing this idea that portable gaming is on the way out? Other than random people in comments or rumor I've seen no indication of this whatsoever. No matter how much people love their consoles, there will always be a need for portables for travel and ease of use and whatnot (hell, college would suck without my PSP and DS). I can't image there will ever be a day when gaming companies just up and abandon the portable market.

@montblanc1 The failure of the PSP and PSP Go as well as the disappointing sales of the 3DS point to the trend of decling sales of portable dedicated gaming devices. The market has shown that people are wanting smaller games that can be played on the go on their iPhones or iPods rather than putting console games on a portable device. I can almost guaruntee you this will be the last generation of handhelds (at least for the next 10 or 15 years). Not saying I like it, it just how it is.

I know that this comment may be blocked or something but i just want to voice my opinion: The NGP just looks like waste of time. Sony just seems to only care about graphics and doesn't care too much about new and fresh experiences. We have seen all of these "new" features on phones AND the 3DS.
