  • Have you tried soaking the coconut flakes in water? The coconut brand you used in video is dehydrated and adding water might work reducing the blending time.

  • blendtec baby, it will blend just about everything....

  • First batch, I used my blender, cheapo and burned it up. 2nd batch, I used my mom's vitamix and it worked, but it's still grainy and I blended the heck out of it! Might try my ninja next. Impressed with your music selection..sounds like James Bond music hehe(the old James Bond)..and also very impressed with your ability to do speed up your video! And then! Instant replay and slow mo! what! You rock!

  • @justgranny45 MAC's iMovie 11 magic (regarding fast forward and instant replay). Noticed mine was a little grainy - but when it went into the truffles I didn't taste it at all...

I saw a blog the other day and the lady made coconut butter. She added a little bit of coconut oil when she was blending it up. Wondering if that might be the trick to smooth coconut butter. What do you think?

  • @justgranny45 : I have a Ninja from Qvc and never worked. Thought I was gonna burn motor out, it got really hot. So had to scrape sides, let motr rest btw mixing. I even tried 2 diff unsw types of flakes. One at grocery store, 1 at health food store. Even added tiny bit of water (thinking it would help mix bettr. 2tbs). Never turned to butter. I used it for lemon truffles. Still good w/tiny flakes. The coconut flakes got warm in ninja but never turned to butter.

  • @2Ryled - Thinking I might just buy a blender to make my butter in and give the bullet a little rest - it does get REALLY hot sometimes. I have no idea why it works for some and doesn't for others - the ONLY thing I can think of is that some coconut has been "steamed" to reduce the fat. It has to have ALL the fat in order to turn to butter. I got reduced fat coconut by accident and added coconut oil to it. It finally turned to butter but it took a lot of maneuvering.

  • Instant replay...LMAO! Real funny! Thats for the tip.

  • @amotherspraise I never responded to you? Shame on me! Have you tried the lemon truffles yet?

  • @amotherspraise Hello typo! But thanks for the tip. Actually I was gone to make it today but we got rain so tomorrow Im going to whole foods to get everything. Would a blender be fine?

  • Very good... I did use my blendtec yesterday. Mine was still a lil grainy how about yours? It will still work though. Artisiana is so smooth don't know what they use.

  • @lizad777 I noticed when I was scraping out the bullet that it "sounded" a little grainy to me. When I made the coconut butter in my auntie's blender the *first* time - it turned out really lovely. My cousins tasted the lemon truffles I had made and actually said my butter was less grainy than the artisiana's variety. So I'm not sure if I just needed to blend it up more or what. I'll see how this one does in truffles. I don't know what they put in there's - some secret smoothing agent? ;)

  • @lizad777 ugh. Their's not there's - and I meant that maybe I needed to do some more blending with my bullet to make it as smooth as the butter I made in my aunt's expensive blender. I was just so freaked after my "accident" with it that I can't get myself to try it again. Seriously scares me. *sob*

  • Love love love this vlog. Great butter and great laughs. ;)

  • @JessiHcg When I updated my iMovie to the 2011 version, I was seriously excited (geeked out) about using the INSTANT REPLAY function but had no idea when that was going to happen! It's not like I do a lot of "action" videos or anything. When I had that flub up with knocking over my camera I was actually quite excited as well as embarrassed because I knew I could finally use that special effect! I didn't realize it would look so hilarious! This vid was for you, you know. ;)

  • @karriedaway67 I definitely loved the instant replay glad you didn't edit it out. Thank you for this vlog I had been looking out for it. :)

  • I need to get a magic bullet!

  • @Debaloo2 Oh the things you can do with a magic bullet! Peanut butter, Slushies, Protein Shakes, Coconut Butter -- Margaritas. When I get to P3 I can't wait to have some of my Aunties great basil and Olive Oil she puts over salmon. All she does is put basil and garlic and oil in the magic bullet and ... VOILA! Wait - I bet that would be good on Talapia, huh? With coconut oil, basil and garlic & a little salt.... Dang - I AM Wolfgang Puck in this mofo! Thanks for watchin, hon!

  • I've seen some of those movies and yes, that is exactly what this music sounds like!! You are sooo funny!! Seems like alot of work.. buying it already made is just sooo much easier!! Asking your camera if it is ok??? LOL!!! I have a bullet but just recently bought a ninja. Might try it with that. Thanks again for your time!! I'm so glad I found you!! See less of you later!!!

  • @wisconsindieter Ahaha! I'm always surprised about the things I share on my vlog. This music must be used again for all my "fast forward" sequences! It's going to become my trademark! Buying it *is* much easier & using a blender is too(see MzRachel's video on Coconut butter), but it's SO EXPENSIVE!!! *sob* So like my foremothers before me... I need to make stuff from scratch. *sigh* It is better than store bought though. You just need a really sweet friend to make it for you. ;)

  • OMG... Mmmm Cool coconut butter!! So tastey. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I gotta try this recipe myself. Give it a whirly doo myself. Thanks for sharing this.

Im thinking of adding a lil lime zest and pom juice to mine.

    Yum

  • @jillybnz2379 - OMG YES! My cousin mentioned lime the other day. I'm thinking I just might try Orange. I wonder if it would taste like those orange creme popsicles. My last batch of lemon truffles I put in a little less powdered truvia, added a tsp or so of vanilla extract - accidentally forgot to add lemon zest - and the truffles turned out so delicious. I find that homemade coconut butter tastes so much smoother than the store bought. Let me know how it turns out Jilly. xoxo

  • glad you gave it a whirl girlfriend!!!! i am not a good blendist....lol maybe i should do this so i can ruin my cheap blender and get a ninja one!!!! does the warning label say don't use magic bullet to make coconut butter?! Nichole is pretty and makes her p2 foods sound so good! you did a great job!!! xoxox

  • @socalplum - OMG - The first batch had little pieces of red stuff in it. I thought - WTF? and then it wasn't blending up. It took 30 minutes and it wasn't getting any softer. I picked up the blender and the bottom wasn't on tight enough and there was coconut butter EVERYWHERE. All over the blender - all over the counter. Complete FAIL. Then I looked at this spatula I had been using. A red one. Mmmhm. I had been scraping the sides and the fricken blades ATE my spatula!

  • @socalplum The magic bullet doesn't have any warnings that say no coconut butter. It probably says something like - don't attempt to film while using this - your camera will probably fall over. There *IS* a warning on the bullet that says to not run it for over so many seconds. Which is why I use the pulsing method. I'm on my way to becoming a great bullet-ist. ;)
