  • does he know what is a car??

  • what a driver !!

  • Gaaaaaayyyy! Learn how to drive!

  • @prunedale4life1 well, he is learning how to drive, that's what is going on in this video...

  • worst driver....ever?

  • was it in 4-Lo?

  • My stock 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 4x4 drove right up that staircase...amazingly just barely had the clearance not to bottom out when cresting the top.

One reason why that Xterra had trouble was because its wheelbase was just the right length for both front and rear sets of times to climb stairs at the same time.

This staircase isn't really too big of a test of how well a 4x4 works. I'm sure there are places an Xterra would go just fine where my Dakota would get high-centered or stuck.

  • totally crushed that rock at the end too. nice job evil

  • i just dont think this guy knows how to drive

  • wrong tires

  • gotta stop that lurching. slow steady squeeze, use that momentum, helps to have better tires but whatever, way to get rid of that nasty new feel!

  • my wrangler pwnz this

  • @00thebatcave00 I checked the your channel, wheres your kick ass wrangler?

  • @slobert1970 pwning

  • I'm hoping that he bought skidplates and sliders since this video was made...

  • LOL FAIL at 0:38

  • Nice. finally someone that usually their SUV the way it should be used.

  • does anyone know if these are tru 4x4 or are the biased toward fron ? in other words can you lock the diffs ?

  • little confused on your question - I assume its how you are asking it - - the current chassis is a traditional 4x4, locked transfer case to a front and rear open differential - nissan fakes a limited slip via the antilock brake system "applying drag" to the free spinning wheel (see rear wheel @ 1:19) with enough force to pop you over most obstacles - the off-road model has a rear electric locker (like a ARB) that works well

  • ok that answers my question...i was wondering wether the front and rears were lockers as well...it didnt look like so from this video but i heard the electronics can do a lot to make the open diffs seem like they are lockers...the new subarus are a testament to that

  • @Zlaja16 I think you were confusing this for being an permante 4wd system, or with awd. This is a part time 4wd system, meaning that their is NO center differeicial,so theirs a locked 50/50 torque split between the front and rear axles. Also it uses 4 wheel limited slip, which can act as a locker, just not as effectivly, thats why theirs an rear electronic locker on xterras with the off road package.

  • @Zlaja16 Locking diffs have nothing to do with "true" 4WD, that's the transfer case. All 4WD Xs have a transfer case and not a center differential. The t-case has 2WD, 4WD Hi, and 4WD Lo. The Off Road is equipped with an electronically actuated locking rear differential.

One thing that would help the driver in this case is airing down his tires. Those BFG Long Trails are ok for dirt roads, but not intended for hard off road use. I prefer the BF Goodrich All Terrain A/T tires on my X.

  • That did better than I thought. Xterra's are nice.

  • Damm that hurt

    Keep going bro

  • nice

  • lol wtf was the point of gassing it in reverse at 0:35?

  • I thing he forgot he was in reverse

  • Did fine getting up there......you will learn the more you do it.......it just takes a little momentum, and gradual throttle....keeping the tires straight....you were just limited by equipment.....

  • Exactly.

  • Not bad for a totally stock X. Upgraded rubber and lower pressure and you would have crawled up that thing no problem! Gotta love someone who isnt afraid to use a brand new SUV like its supposed to be used! Five stars for effort!

  • Amen.

  • I love my xterra

  • that scratch is a badge of honor in the Off-Roading world

  • they respond well to throttle mashing

  • Hey very nice X!!!!! U did fine. next time just deflate your tires and use a little bit of momentum don't stop at each step. It takes a bigger more aggressive tire to be able to do that while stopping at each step.

  • put some BFG all terrain's on ther instead on street tires and he would have had no problmes...

  • It takes momentum.....rook.
