Nice to see this play again. I watched closely this time to see what kind of start Newman had and you can see how fast he gets to top speed, and when Moss looks back, I think he saw he was going to get caught. I actually thought Newman was one of the better corners in the league for awhile. Nice to hear he in fact was a college sprinter. As far as getting caught from behind, Newman had a jump and the angle and Moss looked like he computed that immediately and braced for tackle great play.
Ok let me explain to you morons who dont know shit about running or angles or ANY of that...First of all, notice WHERE Moss catches the ball, very near midfield, newman as soon as he pops up, watch closely, is closer to the sidelines..when moss gets tackled, hes at the sidelines, which means he was running at an angle until he got caught while newman basically running in a straight line..plus moss was looking behind him which slows him down AND newman was going full speed before the catch..
@OneMillionSuns lol you're right and romo is good, i'de put him right under the four elites, brees brady manning rodgers and maybe higher if his ability to get it done in crunch time was better. He has those great moments where you think to yourself, wow if he played like this all the time he could be amazing.Then other times he gets picked off terribly and makes you wonder where his head is. Aside from that Newman made a good play after a corner botched his coverage.
@843niddy Moss ran a 4.25 40 yard dash at the age of 18 & a healthy Moss in his prime between 98-04 could probably run even faster than that probably nearly a 4.2 flat
Newman caught Randy but only after the Cowboys gave up a 77 yard play. How is this an argument? This is the year Moss didn't even really give any effort.
He slowed down and regained acceleration upon catching the dildo, as he was running prior, Newman was already coming for him. GTFO you bitchmade cowgirls.
There's too many factors to say who is faster. Moss might have been running deep routes last couple of plays which tired him out. This doesn't really prove who's faster than who.
If you dont mind i would appreciate it if you could view my videos....i do the samething in football......but i dont know if randy is slower....its different when your on defense, because you know that if u let up a single touchdown, it could lose a game because on defense i run faster than i do on offense
Dallas used the 5th overall pick in the 2003 draft on Newman for a reason. he is fast, a shutdown corner, return punts. When healthy Newman is one of the best corners there is!
Newman was about 10 yards back when Moss caught it. U can really see Newmans closing burst. I'm not that suprised!
Newman won Big 12 Conference 100 meter dash outdoor champion in 2001 and 2002, with times of 10.29 and 10.34, respectively.[1] He also won the Big 12 Conference 60 meter dash in indoor competition with a time of 6.65.
One play isn't the tell all tale when comparing speed by the way lol ... anybody who has played football knows this. Speed can slightly vary day to day, healthy or not. Maybe Moss didn't eat his Wheaties that morning. Maybe Moss was a little fatigued or maybe he was just going 98% instead of 100% for whatever reason. We all know Moss is known for slacking and half assing it at times. There are a million different possibilities here and only noobs look at one play to draw final conclusions.
Newmans speed stuck in my head when he caught Carolinas steve smith in either 02-05 cant remember exactly but it was old when smitty jus started out playing reciever instead of kr...i was like wtf jus happen....so im not surprised in this vid

It's amazing how some people can't comprehend what they see. So you're seriously saying that Newman didn't have a better head of steam after sprinting 30 yards while Moss was slowing down to catch the ball ? Noone is ever running their fastest when they are looking behind them. Moss looked back because he had to slow down and knew Newman was coming fast. Moss has a faster 40 than Newman. Fact. Newman may be faster in the 100 but not in the 40 and the 40 is much more important.
@Number1StarSB Well this is when Randy Moss was pretty Lackluster. His speed is diminishing and isn't as high caliber as he used to be back when he was a Vike. Now that is not to say that Newman isn't a great speedster. Just saying if this was 2001-2002 Moss, I don't see it going down like this.
@samuelrosenbalm So Mr. Newman Ran a 4.37 which is impressive and Moss ran a 4.25 in his Combine out of Marshall. So unless my math is off, 4.25 is less than 4.37 which in turn would mean that Moss would barely be able to pull out of his grasp. "Back then". Now he could never escape an approaching Newman.
@samuelrosenbalm Don't believe me check out the 40-yard-dash-times(.)com(slash)fastest-40-yard(.)html and scroll till you see Moss. 4.25. And if that isn't valid enough then check out . .
@samuelrosenbalm However to 40 yard dash seems most relevant in this case of all combine events. But if that's the case then forgive me for my outrageous ignorance.
@Number1StarSB Randy moss would report to Raider camps late... constantly his career was going down hilla t the time.. and he was also out of shape during camp... So yeah he was caught because he was out of shape idiot.. Dont overlook it too much kid because theresso many little things that add up to why this may of happened..
@Cashmachinez Bro this line of your response is hilarious "many little things that add up to why this MAY of happened". Moron it did happen get over yourself and the perception the media slammed down your throat for 10 years. Moss was one of the fastest players in the NFL so was Newman on this day Newman was faster.
This video only shows how shitty Dallas' pass defense is lol and how good Moss is at getting open. Newton was in a full sprint and building while Moss had to slow way down to catch the ball. Nice try retard.
@splendid1000 i think 40 times are more about explosion and acceleration and don't really take into account top speeds. I think newmans top speed beats randy moss's any day
It's too bad that Newman has gotten injured so often in his career. He's not nearly as fast (or good) as he used to be. At one point, he was one of the best corners in the league.
Randy Moss is The Fastest Player in The NFL I've Ever Seen. If you think newman was faster then moss, look at number #29 he was jogging and keeping up with moss. Something must have been wrong with moss. He wasn't in his (A) Game or Maybe a Bit Tired but if it was in his prime, once that ball touches his hands, its game over, he will get to the end-zone, nobody stoppin him.
Moss on the Raiders was out of shape and out of his "prime". His days on the vikings in good shape I'm not sure that the outcome on this play would be the same.

Hey BUDDY, obviously the only one here that thinks this is you since 7 people agree with me and no one agrees with any of your comments. Go hug Randy Moss's washed up dick some more. And you obviously have too much time on , your hands so go back to your job, if you have one, and stop creating "pissing" matches on youtube tough guy
HA!! Once again, you can't intellectually answer ANY of my points. And again, YOU were the one arguing about this before I chimed in. YOU were the one who got confrontational with me first. And you have 7 "likes" on your comment because it's been up for 3 weeks.
Dude, you're a joke. I've shown you a video from one year before this game when Moss was 100% healthy, where he literally JOGS down the field and passes Newman at full speed.
This will be my final post. I have never in all my years of Youtube ever so thoroughly dominated an argument. You can't counter ANY of my points, & you resort to ad hominem attacks out of desperation.
I'm the only one who thinks Moss is faster when he's not hurt? This forum is FILLED with people saying that Moss would be faster under normal circumstances.
So from here on out, I'll no longer be reading your responses since I've left you in the middle of the ring unconscious.
P.S. "Go hug Randy Moss's washed up dick some more."
Well at least I hug the dick of someone who was great and is now washed up at 34, as opposed to you who hugs the dick of an underachieving, never-was like Terence Newman.
Man, this argument has to have been embarrassing for you. I'm Mike Tyson & you're Michael Spinks. You couldn't go one round with me.
Just for good measure, I'll repost that video of Moss JOGGING past Newman.
LOL! This fool isn't even Spinks, he's one of those skinny white boys that Tyson used to murder just by looking at them. Moss is either hurt in this video or he has to take a big shit, or both. He was obviously faster than Newman. That video of Moss speed-walking past a full speed Newman it priceless!
@BigJohnStud118 And that whole Mike Tyson vs Michael Spinks thing was cute. But I'm not a "white skinny boy", you can think what you want but I guarantee I will make either of you look like bitches in front of your parents, girl/boy friend (you might roll that way) or anyone. So know who your talking about before ya speak punk...
Wow, and you call JP888481 a tough guy! That's rich! Hey, I see in your top post that you mention that Newman was voted one of the fastest guys in the league at one point. Did you know that Moss was voted #6 on NFL Network's top 10 list of fastest players in history last year? Newman didn't even make the list. And you said to JP888481 that you haven't watched any of his videos he posted of Moss outrunning Newman in '04?Bullshit, you did to. You just can't admit it, BOY
@JP888481 I have chosen not to "intellectually" answer any of your points. Obviously you wanted to add some confrontation to the mix or else you wouldn't have argued with me about it. And I didn't watch any of your stupid videos. Moss is washed up. Go back to your couch in which your fat ass has left an imprint on, and cry over your hero retiring and being a bitch because I mean, he is obviously the "best" WR in the history of the game. Your a loser youtube hero, you've got stars in your eyes...
Both players have insane speed. I'm not going to say one is faster than the other, because they both could be on any given play. We don't know if Moss is fatigued from an earlier play, or if his hamstring was bothering him, etc. Both were (or could have been, in Randys case) world class sprinters that just happened to be football players.
moss probably didnt even see him coming because it doesnt even look like sped up after catching the ball. newman on the otherhand saw that the ball was gonna get caught so he immediately started sprinting
Randy flat out got caught on this one. He didn't have to break stride, and caught the ball reaching out in front of him. Newman's not the best cb, but he can run. He has the exact same "click-clack" run style as deion did. Watch their vids and just compare the way they run. freakly similar.
@georgiefromtippit just look at him he jogging and newman is running full speed and I know randy moss is alot faster than that he like wat seven years in the game he didn't start declining it looks like he not trying and or not wanting to play,
@beastlysprinter10 Newman is not faster than Moss. Moss was hurt this season. He had a bad hamstring. Watch video of him from a year or two before and notice how much he slowed down here. Seriously....
@JP888481 Right. And Newman had a "broken leg and still carried the team on his back." Moss isn't the fastest player in the game, Newman was. Seriously...
Newman ran a 4.39. Here's the source on that: tinyurl(dot)com/newmanspeed
Moss ran a 4.25 in his prime. Source: tinyurl(dot)com/Mossspeed
Compare his speed in this video to the one here: tinyurl(dot)com/Mossspeed2
In THIS video Newman is faster due to Moss having lingering hamstring issues.I remember it being an issue at the time. Are you seriously trying to assert that under normal circumstances when Moss was healthy in his prime, that T.N. could outrun him? Read part 2
Here, I have a video that undisputedly proves beyond a doubt that a healthy Moss was HANDS DOWN faster than Newman. It's from a 2004 Vikings- Cowboys game. Watch at 0.06. Newman was Covering Moss on an out pattern. The running back catches the ball in the middle of the field and Newman runs down the field to catch him. Moss, running at basically the same angle across the field basically JOGS past Newman to try and block him.

In case anyone's confused, when I leave url's, you have to replace the "(dot)" with an actual period. Youtube won't let you leave url's anymore to counter spam.
I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I think I've thoroughly debunked the notion that Terrence Newman was faster than a healthy Randy Moss in his prime. Moss' s 40 time was way better as I've shown, and the videos clearly show that Moss was faster. I don't think there's even an argument anymore.
@JP888481 Ok one, your comparing 40 times. In a 100m or even 100 yard dash, i will take newman over almost anyone in the game in his prime. And you can go on tinyurl sites and do all the research you want, it just makes you look like a no life. Especially when you give me moss's life story and medical history, I dont care. Moss got caught, end of story. If you wanna say he was hurt, you can. But he shouldn't have been playing if he did have a "hamstring injury".
Hey Buddy, you were the one who was already arguing about this BEFORE I chimed in. The fact that you're resorting to ad hominem attacks just shows that you can't counter ANYTHING I said, and you're too arrogant to admit it.
I didn't give Moss's life story either, I just provided very elementary evidence that proved what everyone except you already knows: That Moss was way faster than Newman.
Yes, Moss WAS hurt and played because he wanted to help his team win.
Look, I can tell that you're a big Cowboys/ Terence Newman fan, and that's fine. I'm not trying to start a pissing match. I'm just disagreeing with your argument.
You whined in your last post and said: "...I don't care, Moss got caught, end of story." Well that'd be like me saying that because in 2009, an injured Darrelle Revis gave up several big plays to Jabar Gaffney, that Gaffney is better than Revis. No way....
In that '04 video, Moss JOGGED past Newman, end of story!!
You conceded that Moss's 40 time was better than Newman's, but brought up that Newman had a better 100m time. Well hey, Moss catches the ball at the 50 yard line in this video, & Newman catches him at the 10 yard line, which means that Newman caught him 40 yards later. THUS, it took Newman the same time to run 45 yards than Moss took to run 40. Well if Moss has a better 40 time, why wasn't he farther ahead? BECAUSE HE WAS HURT! OVER!
@beastlysprinter10 "He was named one of the fastest players in the NFL at one point" looool Randy Moss was being called one of the fastest players in the NFL his whole career man....Randy is faster but Newman had the momentum and angle on him
@lilzack24 I'm saying he was at one point because he got old. And he had a slight angle on moss but moss was still ahead of him and he should have out ran him if he was faster. That's all I'm saying. Those dumb asses down there tried to act big on youtube so that's why I was arguing with them. But I see your point
Terrance Newman was at least five yards behind Randy, when he first caught the ball. Admit it, Randy Moss fans, Terrance walked your boy down. You talk about he just dove at him, look at where Newman is at when the ball first arrived in Randy's hands. Terrance is not even in the video screen yet, If you want to say he caught him because he had to dive, How far do you think that would be? Considering he's 5 to 7 yards behind initially.
@jeromedavis78 This is from YEARS ago..Newman ran down Randy Moss 6 years ago....who cares? If someone does care, then they should get a life and stop talking trash about a receiver who had the most talent in the history of the game and chose to piss it away because he didn't play hard most of the time. Randy Moss was a waste and a shell of what COULD have been. This is coming from a Viking fan of 30 years who loved to watch him, but it is what it is..he had a chance to be the best ever.
Moss always looked scared to get tackled. That's why I always thought Cris Carter was a better receiver. Not a more explosive one but better overall. And Moss could never do those slants across the middle. He was scared to do that, too.
@MisterhimsaysHello He caught the ball in stride at full speed why the fuck wouldn't he be running full speed? He even saw Newman coming but couldn't outrun him. Terance Newman is fast get over it
moss was out of his prime and during that time he was going through the great depression cuz he loved the vikings until they traded him and he would of score if he was a viking cuz he played harder for the vikes than he did to the raiders cuz they raiders suck and their uniform looks ugly and newman was already running full speed when moss took a second to adjust to the pass
@CVUEVikingfan28 Even if he was in a viking uniform the same thing would have happened. Notice how both were outrunning everybody else? Moss caught it in a perfect stride and had about 15 to 20 yards on him. Newman is probably the fastest DB in the league before his injuries.
Newman was already at full speed when Moss was turning to catch the ball, this is a stupid comparison. And consider the outcome of the play: Moss just took a shit on the cowboys secondary.
not to diminish Newman's play, but it didn't seem like Moss was going full bore. He probably didn't realize the pursuit was that hot until it was too late. I'm a redskins fan but I can give props where due
doesnt matter at all moss was past his prime and whats more important he burnt that defense for a monster gain and anyway newman could catch him all he wanted to that wont stop moss from going into the hall of fame and newman being a forgotten memory by the next 15 years
Newman is a burner, but I saw Lee Evans run him down once when Newman picked him. Fact is, carrying a ball slows you down just a little - but enough. Newman's crazy fast.
Randy's speed got better or stayed somewhat same with age, Newman's speed has dropped dramatically with age, but when both were at their prime its obvious Newman wins this race
Nice to see this play again. I watched closely this time to see what kind of start Newman had and you can see how fast he gets to top speed, and when Moss looks back, I think he saw he was going to get caught. @FrostyTheBlackGuy There is more to a combine than the 40 yard dash - which by the way I did not even mention.
This was not a 40 dash, this is a 50 yard rundown with running starts for both players.
And Moss ran a 4.24 at the age of 30 - so he obviously didn't slow down too much since his Minnesota days.

@FrostyTheBlackGuy Nothing to forgive, except of course your unwarranted sarcasm.
samuelrosenbalm 3 months ago
@samuelrosenbalm Sad part is I actually wasn't being sarcastic. I was being legit and saying "Correct, you are correct. I am wrong".
FrostyTheBlackGuy 3 months ago
@FrostyTheBlackGuy Oh, well I wouldn't say you are wrong.
Moss did run a faster 40 than Newman, after all.
samuelrosenbalm 3 months ago
@samuelrosenbalm But I realized how dumb it is for me to rant on about the past when the video is only relevant to that specific moment.
FrostyTheBlackGuy 3 months ago
@FrostyTheBlackGuy I guess that applies to both of us.
Thanks.

You're kidding right ?
Newman 40 time - 4.37
Randy Moss 40 time - 4.25
splendid1000 3 months ago
@splendid1000 i think 40 times are more about explosion and acceleration and don't really take into account top speeds. I think newmans top speed beats randy moss's any day

@terminator0271
Maybe, but 40 time is much more important than top speed in football.

@beastlysprinter10
You have no argument, CHECK MATE!
JP888481 5 months ago
@beastlysprinter10

@beastlysprinter10
BigJohnStud118 5 months ago
@JP888481 I have chosen not to "intellectually" answer any of your points. Obviously you wanted to add some confrontation to the mix or else you wouldn't have argued with me about it. And I didn't watch any of your stupid videos. Moss is washed up. Go back to your couch in which your fat ass has left an imprint on, and cry over your hero retiring and being a bitch because I mean, he is obviously the "best" WR in the history of the game. Your a loser youtube hero, you've got stars in your eyes...

JKCNinety 5 months ago
Both players have insane speed. I'm not going to say one is faster than the other, because they both could be on any given play. We don't know if Moss is fatigued from an earlier play, or if his hamstring was bothering him, etc. Both were (or could have been, in Randys case) world class sprinters that just happened to be football players.

Randy flat out got caught on this one. He didn't have to break stride, and caught the ball reaching out in front of him. Newman's not the best cb, but he can run. He has the exact same "click-clack" run style as deion did. Watch their vids and just compare the way they run. freakly similar.

@beastlysprinter10 Newman is not faster than Moss. Moss was hurt this season. He had a bad hamstring. Watch video of him from a year or two before and notice how much he slowed down here. Seriously....
JP888481 5 months ago
@JP888481 Right. And Newman had a "broken leg and still carried the team on his back." Moss isn't the fastest player in the game, Newman was. Seriously...
beastlysprinter10 5 months ago
@beastlysprinter10
Read part 2
JP888481 5 months ago
@beastlysprinter10
Part 2:
Here, I have a video that undisputedly proves beyond a doubt that a healthy Moss was HANDS DOWN faster than Newman. It's from a 2004 Vikings- Cowboys game. Watch at 0.06. Newman was Covering Moss on an out pattern. The running back catches the ball in the middle of the field and Newman runs down the field to catch him. Moss, running at basically the same angle across the field basically JOGS past Newman to try and block him.

Part3:
In case anyone's confused, when I leave url's, you have to replace the "(dot)" with an actual period. Youtube won't let you leave url's anymore to counter spam.
I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I think I've thoroughly debunked the notion that Terrence Newman was faster than a healthy Randy Moss in his prime. Moss' s 40 time was way better as I've shown, and the videos clearly show that Moss was faster. I don't think there's even an argument anymore.
JP888481 5 months ago
@JP888481 Ok one, your comparing 40 times. In a 100m or even 100 yard dash, i will take newman over almost anyone in the game in his prime. And you can go on tinyurl sites and do all the research you want, it just makes you look like a no life. Especially when you give me moss's life story and medical history, I dont care. Moss got caught, end of story. If you wanna say he was hurt, you can. But he shouldn't have been playing if he did have a "hamstring injury".
beastlysprinter10 5 months ago
@beastlysprinter10
JP888481 5 months ago
@beastlysprinter10
JP888481 5 months ago
@beastlysprinter10
One more thing just for good measure.
OVER!

@lilzack24 I'm saying he was at one point because he got old. And he had a slight angle on moss but moss was still ahead of him and he should have out ran him if he was faster. That's all I'm saying. splendid1000 3 months ago
Considering he's 5 to 7 yards behind initially.
jeromedavis78 6 months ago
@jeromedavis78 This is from YEARS ago..Newman ran down Randy Moss 6 years ago....who cares? If someone does care, then they should get a life and stop talking trash about a receiver who had the most talent in the history of the game and chose to piss it away because he didn't play hard most of the time. Randy Moss was a waste and a shell of what COULD have been. This is coming from a Viking fan of 30 years who loved to watch him, but it is what it is..he had a chance to be the best ever.

@CVUEVikingfan28 Even if he was in a viking uniform the same thing would have happened. Notice how both were outrunning everybody else? Moss caught it in a perfect stride and had about 15 to 20 yards on him. Newman is probably the fastest DB in the league before his injuries.
