There's one thing I'm not understanding about this. You're stepping first with the faking foot, and kicking the air, which is using most of your strength and directing the force downward. Meanwhile the force carrying your entire body UP over the object is coming from your right leg. Am I not seeing this correctly? Where is the power for the jump actually coming from?

The jump comes from whichever foot is on the ground. There's also no kicking involved in the fake step; more like swing up and back. Hard to explain, try to watch the triple jumper.
