THE toughest live act to follow. He's a disiplined performer, and he doesn't take things for granted. Even at age 61, he can still play 4 hour show. Puts a lot of teenybopper singers to shame, who can't do an hour, without costume changes. Bruce is all sweat and guts. Timeless.
In my opinion, the least played song from the 'Born to Run' album in Bruce's live concerts of the last decade. Even 'Tenth Avenue Freeze Out' made the Super Bowl; ....that was a B-side. He seem's to be able to channel the emotion for 'Thunder Road' and "meeting across the River." Is he embarrassed of the sentiment? just wondering
Wanted to watch this again just to make sure it still holds up as the best version of Backstreets I've ever seen performed live. It does. Still gives me chills. I'm so lucky to have been there! Best show ever.
For me another great highlight is the climax of the chorus at 7:00, and the roar he gives the crowd at 7:11. He knows the song absolutely killed that night!
I thanked DevDev for this way back a year ago when it was posted...thanks again. An awesome concert. Glad I was there, and glad I can re-live the joy through these videos.
Have you heard the versions of Backstreets 1978 they are awesome.
Everyone is so different and yet so beautiful! Including on from 8-4 1978 in Virginia is on a mp3 if you want me to email all the versions I have I will.'
By far, this was the best Springsteen show that I have ever seen. The sound was pretty bad in the section that we were in, but the set list and the energy of the band made up for that! For the people who were at this show, I hope they really appreciate what they saw that night!!
Nice videos! My husband and I have been watching and reliving Monday night. We were not lucky enough to get in the pit, but we were in the front of the second floor section. Close enough, but really tall people right in front of us. That was the best concert I have ever seen. I've been a fan since "Darkness...." and I've only been able to see him live twice, both in Richmond. Go figure...
Hershey wasn't nearly as good as Richmond. Taking my obvious bias away from Richmond, Hershey doesn't have anything that can touch the solo piano "For You". But Hershey did have its moments such as the most brilliant guitar solo I've ever seen Bruce do (Prove), the slammin "Boom Boom", the encore, the weather, a full moon, and a great crowd (I was at the very front again, but kept looking behind me and never once saw a single person out of 25000 sitting down or just not completely into it).
Flew from Seattle to see this show. 5th of this tour and over 20 altogether. Easily in the top 2 of all time for me. Thanks for effort of getting this out!
Wow. I'm so happy you filmed this as it was me Bruce dedicated it to. From the moment he asked for my sign until the end of the show I thought I was dreaming. Thanks for posting this. BTW, does anyone have video of just before this when he took my sign??
I had wristband #01000. I knew they were letting only 700 into the pit and so when they drew #7, at first I thought I was out of luck. But I quickly noticed that #01000 turned upside down looks a helluva lot like #00010. After the real #10 had already been dealt with, I went down the line to the 80s and 90s and showed the guy in charge my #10 saying that I had been in the bathroom. He was too busy to give it a second thought.
Thank you so much for posting an amazing highlight from a phenomenal show. My 21st which all began on the River tour and this night in Richmond was as amazing as any.
AWESOME!!!!! This was my 13th show and it blew me away. Backstreets is one of my all time favorites.....the perfomance was heartwarming, inspiring and well worth the trip to Richmond. Thanks for posting..I got chills all over again!
FYI: at the beginning of the song, BS picks up a sign that reads "My band just broke up: play Backstreets". Hence, what he says at the end of the song makes more sense.
ahh Rosalita is the ONE song i really wanted to get this time but the memory card i was using at the time ran out of room and i didnt want only half the song so i deleted it... But i DID get: - For You - Lonesome Day - Clarence waving at the camera! already posted if you haven't seen it - Badlands - CRUSH ON YOU! - Born to Run - She's the One - Bobby Jean - Dancing in the Dark - AMAZING footage singing into my camera!! :)
amazing voice

"Let"!! I specifically didn't tell you my scheme until AFTER it was too late to get kicked out of the line!
Nice meeting you.

I know, I know.
How was Hershey compared to Richmond?
rscummins 3 years ago
What do you mean you got kicked out of the line?
If I could choose 5 songs that I weren't guaranteed to hear at a Springsteen concert (Like BToR, Rising etc), I'd choose
Backstreets
Jungleland
Something In The Night
Streets Of Fire
Racing In The Street

Oh, unlucky. How did Bruce get your sign then?
Eeza07 3 years ago
I guess I could have written that more clearly. What I'm saying is that my trick worked. He thought it really was #10, and I got into the pit.
