  • They should localize this game and remaster it in HD for the PS3.

  • Fuck jap game developers for ignoring the western world. Why not featuring an english option in the menu?! Morons, years of development and programming and in the end not one buck left for a translation. Go fuck jap morons.

  • @chemiecharmeur It takes a lot of efforts to translate a game, not to speak the amount of money needed to localize it... Oh never mind, I don't think you will be able to understand.

  • english patch is out there! just look for it! good review tho;p

  • Does this even have a part 2?

  • I'm one of the translator of FM5 (named Peter Poland). I( woreked on the GUI, hope you guys like it. Thx for your support!

  • I resent Square Enix for not releasing this in the US...so much....

I DON' WANNA BUY ANOTHER PS2!!!!\

    >.<

  • Bad Ass

  • Wow, Classic Gameroom you never cease to appease my review needs. This is exactly the review I needed to decide on playing this game. Thanks again.

  • WHERE'S PART 2!?

  • The mechs in the beginning look like Zaku II's.

  • YEEE fukk. i hope it comes out in eng for the none jap ps2

    Front Missh is thee shizznat!!!

  • damn you square enix why no english version?!!!!!!!!

  • I played it for 10 minutes and knew it was good. The depth of development in this game goes beyond most PS2 games. Even the cameras are very cinematographic.

  • @RocmanRaz It helps development when you have an actual film director helping out with the development of the cutscenes. Check out frontmission.info if you want to learn more about it!

  • Can't they make a PS3 Front Mission 5 HD? I'm sure that'll sell better than Front Mission Evolved!

  • @aleste37 Front Mission doesn't sell well because the first game they marketed here was the bastard child of the series, FM3, (which I do love....Japanese consider it under par). Then the second one released here was 4, which went back to the classic gameplay roots from the first installments.

If they had released Front Mission here on Super Nintendo back in 1996 then this entire franchise may have stood a chance in the US.

FME I heard stinks, what say you?

  • @RocmanRaz I liked Front Mission 3 and still haven't gotten myself to try 4 though.

  • @Cerebraxis Play it, its mechanics are great. And the difficulty is very nice

  • @RocmanRaz Most people have said negative things about #4 not #3. In fact I've seen a lot of people happy FM3 is coming to PSN.

  • @Feijoada1 I know. I'm just saying that, American audiences look at #4 as the bastard child and #3 as the standard good one. I love 4...the mechanics are much better than #3 IMO. My original point was that the Japanese see #3 as the bastard child of the series because they attempted new gameplay mechanics in #3 which strayed from the traditional mechanics of 1, 2 and some of the other titles. #4 goes back to the traditional gameplay roots.

  • And I was wondering why I didn't get to play this game but the burning '5' logo looked so familiar.

    Too bad no english

  • I think someone got lazy...and completely forgot the Part 2!????? Ugh. I WANT this game now that there's been a translation patch! I'm such a nerd for this series---and no, I'm having NOTHING to do with Evolved. BLYECK. I already have Armored Core.

  • @ravenjehuty I'm with you there man. Hate it. I don't know kanji from ghandi.

  • where is the second part?

  • i wish this would have been released in the US because even though it's like front mission 4, 5 is just way more animated and epic in its battles....guess i better start learning japanese....basterds...

  • @ravenjehuty It helps that 5 is WAY better in every way. Especially plot... Front Mission 4 was just boring.

  • im Chinese. i don't know any Japanese.

but i can play japanese games without any problems.

americans should learn to play games not in their language

  • Good graphics.

  • cant wait for the next one :D

  • If this game had an option of English subtitles and menus then I would totally invest in a Japanese PS2 just to play it. :)

  • Why for the PS2? Does anyone even play their PS2?

  • @kevinmarquez19 only a couple million

  • @kevinmarquez19 A shit load of people still play their PS2 consoles. The system may seem like rubbish to you because you live in the era of Wii Go Nutz 4 Wii, but a lot of us know a good game console when we see one and a lot of us even have our original consoles from 2001. :)

  • @kevinmarquez19 it is one the best consoles ever made,if not the very best, but you dont understand that because all you know is xbox 360 o ps3

  • @Caparzoshow I owned and loved both my Dreamcast and PS2 lots of good times with MvC2,Call of Duty:Finest Hour, God of War, Resident Evil 4, and loads of others, its just that when you play on your 360 its kind of hard to go back because the Xbox/PS3 is very concentrated on Multiplayer, but if you love Single player games I can see what your saying, the PS2 is awesome, but I just wanted to let you know that I had used a PS2 and it was a great experience.

  • @kevinmarquez19 lol i sold my ps3 so i could buy more ps2 games :D

  • @kevinmarquez19 i still play my atari

  • i hate japan for dont releas it in europe

    fucking rice heads

  • I was so ticked when we didn't get Front Mission Online nor Front Mission 5. But, we're getting Front Mission: Evolved (which I wish they would have named 6). That makes up for it.

  • @hiddenunknownvpower its not turn based tho...thats y they didnt call it 6

  • @younoooob Ah, that makes sense.

  • fuck i wish they'd redo 4 and 5 with ps3 graphics

and have a setting to choose which language you speak like a movie or DVD

i'm really looking forward to fm evolved

-when is that being released anyway? Square Enix said in January 22 it would be released in the Spring of this year

  • @trexgunkillyoudead Now release date for Front Mission Evolved is 28 september, for USA at least, I wonder when it will be released in Europe hmn...

  • @trexgunkillyoudead its not turn based tho...thats y they didnt call it 6

  • @trexgunkillyoudead Heh funny, release date of Front Mission Evolved for Europe is still 17 september, that was not changed while for USA as I said before they pushed it to 28.

  • I played the first Front Mission on an NES emulator it's to date the only one i've ever played but now i'm going to change that, it was awesome all the dialog was in Japanese but the main menus "customization screen and battle menu" were in English it had a feature which the squeals don't seem to, a Colosseum to fight other mecs to earn money and parts in each city.

  • Comment removed

  • Is it just me, or there is no part two?

  • Hey you can always download this with english subtitles from emulation sites. As long as you have the chipped or modded ps2 just google it. I did after watching this review and now im playing it.

Bit of a git in subtitles but hey the games AWESOME. anyone wants a link just send me a message.

  • god damn you, you jap sons of bitches and 'squeenix damn you both to hell for not giving the US the game....ass holes..

  • wheres part 2 ???

  • @LeeJay800 :(

  • lmao

    yes ur ass looks big

big like ghetto bootie bobbi star baby!

  • Wow, I wish real life tanks could fire that fast like in 6:30, but isn't that what revolver magazines on the Merkava and Leclerc can do?

  • wish they would put it in english and send it over to the u.s.

  • A fan translation of this game was just released. Check out romhacking . net

  • there is a fan translation that u can download

  • @SoloWing3844 THX YOU THX YOU THX YOU .. !!!!

  • I was so disappointed when it wasn't announced to ship overseas. :( Looks like a great game during the time...

  • ailton brasil front muito fraco modo campanha

  • I can't find the second part of the review.

  • @Matt2501 me neither

  • I own FM3, 4 and the DS one. I didn't even know they had a FM5 out. I wish they would just translate the text and toss this on PSN for Download. I'd pay 20-30 bones.

  • There is a fan translation that fixes alot of the menus and make it playable. You miss out on the story a bit, but still great.

  • Haha that'd be nice

  • yeah, you're right this game is nearly same as Front Mission 4.... the only thing is, it doesn't have an English Version of this one...

    2:03 - LOL

  • stupet song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ darkjeankarlo123

You can't even spell the word Stupid!

Shut the fuck up bitch! The gods will kill you!

Classic Game room owns! So does the song!

  • Is FM5 a 2 character game like FM4???

  • geez man! that's why i could'nt find an english version of front mission 5 here and else were! its for japan only? why? I'd finished the 4 many times. i love this mech game!

  • Much respect to these reviewers who can play through an entire game in another language just for the sake of saying they've played it. I couldn't do that myself, unless I was playing a wrestling game (because let's face it, when do you ever give a rat's ass about the plotline of a wrestling match?)

  • designs of the mechs have high similarities with Armored Core, no wonder they're rivals of the mech genre

  • Future robots are so stealthy!

  • if you have a modified ps2 or use swap magic there is a group doing a fan translation of all in game text. they are almost finished. its quite playable and understandable now. theres going to be about 1 more version of the translation and it'll be mostly just background stuff

  • I'm actually looking forward to FM Evolved. I liked the more ground-based combat of the early PS2 Armored Core titles, how missiles and rockets could catch other players off guard. But I realize that the game might end up being a big flop. Hopefully they handle it well.

  • great review

  • there's an english patch for the game if you want to play it... search google...

  • Yeah, I've got it! :D

Have yet to try it though.

  • Ah Damn! Look at all the details! I seriously have no clue whatsoever why square won't ship this game to the rest of the world...

  • dope as hell! cant wait for Evolved

  • This Game is perfect!

  • Damn it man, why isn't this game available for the US?

  • Sad there wont be an english version, Im a huge fan of Front Mission series. btw I just paused at 0:53, wanzers always been original and stuff but the ones in this frames make Zakus come over my mind XD

  • Sigh well Actually Guys The ONLINE Seems better of front mission 5 online but how on earth we connect through ps2 man!!? and wat is the LEVEL max of front mission 5? BTW

  • I wanted to play this game so bad back in the day. This game was released---4 years ago!? Man, after the year and half mark passed, I got too busy with life to continue waiting. I don't think I'll even get around to playing the fan translation now

  • I played Front Mission 3 on SNES once, and I loved it, I tried the others ones which were like this one but I didnt like it so much, although I loved FF Tactics on PS1 (not GBA). Now Front Mission Evolved is coming and it's going to be released on PC (Windows) too AND worldwide not only in Japan! CANT WAIT!!!

  • unfortunately FME is going to be a third person action game. Yep, just like armored core. Now i won't pass judgment on it just yet, but I will say that I am disappointed they are changing the game so drastically..

  • hell im pissed why the hell the morons made it thrid person shooter lol maybe the lazy dum ass morons will make another version lol

  • Well, I think its being made by an American developer in association with Square Enix, which is probably why it's taking such a drastic change

  • how i wish they will release this game in us hey bro do you think...3rd person fm would be good?

  • The only similar type of game would be armored core which has seriously overstayed its welcome.

I can't comment on the quality of the game as I haven't seen enough of it yet to make an assessment.

However, it seems like the mechanics will be nothing like the previous games; it won't be a turn based strategy game which already disappoints me.

It's looking like it will only be a Front Mission game in title and only that.

  • this is why japan surpass america all the time lol

  • Yes, of course, because a spinoff of the Front Mission series is action, Japan is always superior to america.

    Yup.

From what I've seen, it seems to be a spinoff of the series. They probably will make a Front Mission 6 with the strategy gameplay we all know and love.

I mean, I like the Front Mission series, with its amazing gameplay and all that, but piloting a Wanzer would be SWEET. It looks like it's going to be a good game, too! And believe me, there aren't many mecha action games these days.

  • I don't know.. to me at least, no japanese strategy game has beat Microprose "Mech Commander" series, which I pray a 3rd comes out now that they are coming out with MechWarrior 5 :D

  • i just called the store they got the one on ds for stock so im getting it and i got fm4 and like i said. wagner my fav bad guy ever lol strongest one square wanzer ever

  • XD but...to pilot robots in action system...I choose Armored Core...just shift the Melee weapons by some swordsXD

  • Yep, In good old timesI had problem with language to when I played FM 3, it was in russian or suposted to be in russian, aldough didn't understood the language, I learned to play, and the game became one of my favorite on PS

  • holy crap this looks 10x better than FM4! Now I'm mad 5 is not out in USA D:< The animation is sooOOo much better

  • And yey for actually having characters on screen... this is so something they should've done for the older ones.

  • I'm so glad they made an English patch of this

  • there is? O_o how u get the game and tha patch o.o

  • just do a search on Youtube or google. There's vids by the creator. It's a patch so you need to find the regular game first of course. Currently they are working on a FM 2 PS1 patch.

  • i have the game bought it on ebay just cant play it till i get a japanese ps2....

  • you dont need a JPN PS2

You just need Swap Magic 3.0 disc and a PS2 slim pop up cover.

Then convert your FM 5 game to an .iso on your PC using Magic Iso and patching it with the FM English patch.

Then burn it to a DVD-R disc.

  • eh iwas just htink ing of just modding my old ps2 being idont really need it no more... and gettingn ew controllers.... sincei have no clue bout this magicswap being id need to get a whole new ps2 anyways to use it lol

  • Just google magic swap it's easy to figure out.

And no you will not be able to play a English patched Front Mission 5 on a Japanese PS2.

Thats why you need Magic Swap.

  • well then its a good thign i have the actual japanese game :D guess ill just go see how much modding costs since i dun wanna waste money buyign a disk lol

  • You still dont get it..

You CANT play your Japanese Front Mission 5 in English because you'd have to convert the original disc to an .ISO file onto your computer then patch it with the English patch, then make a DVD-R copy of it, then play it on your PS2 using Swap Magic 3.6 or a modded PS2. However, Swap Magic is safer & cheaper in the end than a chip because sometimes those chips burn out and it's expensive to hire someone to modify or fix it. Or play it on your super fast PC with an emulator

  • who says id care too much in english? only thing i got curious was there was a way to play in english... id rather just mod my ps2 then buy a whole cept of new stuff just to burn and play in english..when i can just play it originally..

  • because getting Swap Magic 3.6 and the disc cover is cheaper and safer in the end over modding your PS2.

I modded my first PS2 and it never worked the same since. Eventually it died. And unless you can read Japanese then playing it in English would be better since the game has a great story that you'd be missing.

  • Swap magic needs more drastic conversion than a mod chip. And a chipping is ~$25.

  • No it doesn't, you just need to install a flip. Easy as hell to do.

  • Or just a modchipprd ps2.

  • Maybe Voltron makes a guest appearance..LOL!!!

  • it is a shame it didnt made it out of japan, it looks like an enjoyable game.

  • if you have a mod chp you can play an import or back up. and their is a translation patch out for it thats fully working! if your interested google it.

  • wheres part 2

  • No imports won't play on a US ps2 unless you use a boot disc or a mod chip.

  • I found english patched but i didnt dl yet,im gonna try it out tommrow.

  • but 5 nevr mad eit in the usa so whta sup with that

  • ''Does my ass look big.''

    Ha ha! Good one ;).

  • hey i bought my ps2 in canada so like ya can it play jpn games please someone answer me back

  • if you bought yours in canada than it cant play a japanese game, becouse it has an ntsc regional code.

  • It's JPN region code... Both US and JPN use the NTSC standard. NTSC is a video code not region. Like Secam or PAL.

  • You can use gameshark to boot japanese games.

  • is the Japanese PS2 Console like the ps2 slim cuz that the one that i have the slim ps2

  • This game looks amazing

  • I love this series, but sadly stupid westerners have no patience or true eye for quality gaming.

then again FM4 had the worst cast of characters and plot, which I blame 4 this series future demise here in the states.

I really want this title. it looks like it holds up to FM1.

and yes! this and Thunder force 6 are some of the reasons i want jap ps2.

  • Front Mission is one of my favorite franchise. I don't understand why they only released FM4 in Europa and the states...

  • FM4 never came out for Europa...

  • 2 words: Armored Core

  • More like Amored Core + Advance Wars.

  • never played advanced wars, but I did try FM:4, didn't really seam my style.

  • It sucks that we never got 5... we would have if people would have only bought Front Mission 4 instead of it selling so poorly, I remember seeing the game brand new for 15$ at walmart, which is crazy since Walmart doesn't discount games very often.

  • There is an English patch out for Front Mission 5! It's playable now !

  • I've never understood why developers couldn't invest 3 lousy bucks more into a game to come up with English subtitles even though the game is for one market only. They would sell a few more I guess, especially when the predecessors were already a success in other parts of the world. This is kind of stupid.

  • time to learn japanese

  • theres a group of people translating this game through patches, they some of the menu text translated and are working on a new patch that translates the intro and tutorial

  • It is Japanese and has robots with rediculeously big guns slaughtering innocent people, therefore it is good

  • Good review

  • If CGR can play an RPG in Japanese then that would be amazing lol

  • how do you understand the goddamn language

  • Your reviews are a little boring. You know what you need? ZAZ!

    That and a scoring system.

  • No, no, no !

"Scoring system" ?!? Thats for some lame shit like IGN Reviews, who dont give a very descriptive reviews...

  • To me it just doesnt seem like a review. It's more of a discription of a game. Which i like. A scoring/grading system would just give more context to the review and his opinions as a whole. he just doesnt seem to critique very much. sometimes he does, but its inconsistant. I like his videos alot, but its hard to call them reviews sometimes.

  • I agree , It feels more like commericals now, He does not do to many "classic games" as much,I think he is losing some of that magic since he went "pro".

  • No these reviews are really great. I haven't seen game reviews with this much depth and actually shows you the game play. Plus CGR has frequent reviews. Plus they look at titles that don't really get talked about. They expose a lot of hidden gems.

  • I disagree. I love these reviews. There. I said it. You made me.

  • ATARU7800 LOL.

  • PS2 has some play left in it. Besides, these companies bring out the new gear so early, we don't get time to appreciate everything.

  • Looks like an great game. It's amazing that there are so many great games still available for the PS2 platform.

  • Damn you Square Enix for not translating this into english! and of course other languages like german, french, and whatnot so other countires can play it, this game rocks.

  • They probably thought it wouldn't sell well outside of Japan like FM3 and FM4.

  • i loved fm3 and fm1 i want this game so bad but i only have us ps2

  • JAPANESE!!

  • DoDonPachi is also on the japanese ps1.

  • can you please do DoDonPachi on the sega saturn. Or can you do Mushihimesama on the ps2.(They both have things exsploding)

  • *sigh*

    Square-Enix; you cunts.

  • 5? Never heard of this series in my life. Then again, all these Mech games look the same to me.

  • agree... im not in to mech

  • Not all mech games are turn based Strategy/RPGs.

  • Front Mission 1 was kick ass, but we keep getting stiffed on the other games!

  • I would totally play a game like this. English version please!

  • Looks pretty awesome. A good time consumer. Looking forward to part 2.

  • This game looks incredible, Square-Enix sure screwed us over.

  • Blame everyone here for not buying FM3 and FM4.
