Japan's copyright laws are very lax in that respect, which is why he can get away with putting band names in his work to begin with. (America is different, which is why we get stuff like "D'bo" and "Robber Soul") It's much more likely that he was cut for time, since as much as we all love him, you have to admit you can tell the story without him.

I found part 5 to be awful.

Giorno is very neglected as the main character since Bucciarati takes all the highlights easily. To compensate, Araki put a lot of big talk from him and about him. There's even that lame cliche about dreams he abandoned halfway through the chapters (I'm pretty sure that was his editor telling him to put the new dream fashion on his pages).

On top of that a lot of asspull is performed when we're talking about the stands. Many stands have such shitty explanations on their abilities you start feeling cheated as a reader. And that includes the main character with his convenient animal transformations and the attack reflection (also abandoned halfway through) as well as the main villain (with that hm.. something he does with time...).

It has likable characters though.

I found it to be below even part 4.

True. Part 4 is really good actually. I just compared that way because many people consider it weak for no reason at all. Maybe because it comes after the awesome part 3. Maybe because of it's mundane aspects: small town, a compulsive villain with earthly objectives, a bit of school life etc. It also started with some asspulls here and there.

But it's really awesome. For me, Diavolo doesn't come even close to Yoshikage Kira as a character. And that's saying something when you're talking about a villain that only want's to live an average life while satisfying his killing urges. Araki really did a great job at his characterization. And the same can be said about Jousuke and his ridiculous hair and that look that is so different from Jotaro's. Author worked on him very nice too.
