It clearly states that it was a mistake and that Israel paid a hefty amount in compensation. What would be Israel's motive for attacking a US ship? Israel was under attack at the time and mistakenly assumed that the ship was an enemy ship. The US is Israel's strongest military alliance. I highly doubt Israel would intentionally attack her supporter.
