  • I love the Bay City Rollers....Thanks for sharing this video....

  • I photographed the Bay City Rollers in 1977. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • @ttippau I dunno. Fake braces forced American Stepford wife piano perfect teeth scare me more.

  • @KeithTheKing Lol, those big fake white chicklet teeth scare me too, and I'm American. :D

  • Love these guys!

  • お母さんが。。。中学生の時はまったアイドルだって。懐かしいと何回も人の携帯で見てました。はままるの曲だよね

  • Look at Volbeat´s Cover from Dusty Springfield´s Cover!!!!

    This is Horrible!!!! OMG!

  • Itt Magyarországon is sztárok voltak, pedig ha 1-2 dalukat ismertük!

    Csaba from Hungary

  • QUE BUENA CANCION IT SONG IS GREAT-DESDE PERU SU AMIGO VICTOR DE SAN JUAN DE MIRAFLORES -ZONA - K- P E R U

  • eric cartman would say screw you hippies! xd

  • Couldn't these guys afford a dental plan? Good God. I've seen better teeth on a rusty saw.

  • @Litawyn Actually, if you study the history of British rock music few bands had perfect American Donnie Osmond piano teeth. That's a recent phenomenon, the mandatory braces on everyone who sings.

    Disney made that happen.

  • @KeithTheKing I never said Donny Osmond teeth were mandatory. It would be nice though if their teeth didn't look like they were fighting to get away from each other.

  • @Litawyn With all respect, the Bay City Rollers had more young ladies throwing themselves at them than you've had hot dinners, funky teeth and all, so I think you should put it in perspective. You can critique their dental aesthetics, but they were popular all the same. I find it more amusing that you care so passionately about this oddity.

  • @KeithTheKing With all respect, take a look at the faces of those little slappers. Most of them would force a train to take a dirt road.

  • @Litawyn You have issues!! There must be a better way to vent than to call preteen children "slappers" - I liked you better when you were going mental on matters dental.

    Now you're just OTT.

Good luck and have a nice life-

    KTK

  • @Litawyn WTF, teeth? R U for real ?!!! The Bay City Rollers have beautiful smiles/teeth. They were the most perfect pin up boys of their day!! (and still are!!) Methinks there is sum jealousy goin on here!!! Dude, get a life!!! and btw, the Osmonds with the exeption of Merrill had MAJOR dental reconstruction on their teeth!! (read that on their wiki) so get over it and move on! Thanks 4 the post Keith!! fr:FOREvERALANSGIRL!!

  • These guys were every teen girl's dream!

  • From what I understand, studio session musicians were used for their first album since they were only given two days to put it together. I am not certain about the following albums, but I don't believe that was the case (I could be wrong, and if I am, I'm someone will jump in and correct me). Nonetheless, they did tour, so I am assuming they were all playing the instruments themselves. Even if they weren't (and I believe they did), this can't take away from the fact that Les McKeown DID sing.

  • My favorite song by them was Rock n Roll Love Letter - man I loved their music! I never could get into the hi-waters pants, but loved the music. I really miss those days! People's word meant something, and everything was MUCH simpler - LOL

  • Had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing them. They were great guys!

  • What a bunch of prats these guys were. They didn't even play on their records because they weren't good enough musicians. Guitar was by Big Jim Sullivan and Jimmy Page, backing vocals by Jonathan King and Mike Batt.

  • @quatt47 The Byrds didn't play on their first records, they just sang except for McGuinn. On the Byrds records it was Hal Blaine on drums and Carole Kaye on bass. The Monlees were the same. It's not so unusual. However, Les sang the lead vocals. Fact.

  • @KeithTheKing That might all be true Keith,Paul Revere & the Raiders where also acompanied by ace session men ,but there is something about this bunch that says 'No way José"

  • @PAULLONDEN That's your opinion, and I respect that. There are BCR fans here who won't be to happy about these sort of comments, so let's say 'the spice of life is variety" and "to each his (or her) own." Tis thread must end here. As Les would say... "cease!" - LOL

  • @KeithTheKing You're right there ,I stand corrected.I'd rather see this bunch ,than todays soulless crap.

  • @quatt47 i can`t see how jimmy page played on BCR records he did his session stuff in the early/mid 60s before joining the yardbirds

  • @unclemort1960 Big Jim Sullivan was the preferred session guitar player for the BCR producer Phil Coulter. As good a player in his own way as the far more charismatic photogenic Page, who (alternately with Chris Spedding) worked for producer Mickie Most. Those were the three pop guitar studio hit men. Page, Spedding and Sullivan.

  • A truly unfortunate era.

  • @atomic3939 Yeah, that's why all the hip hop and rapper artists sample the 70s, and make recycled hits out of this good stuff.

  • Nice to see a video with Ian in it.

  • HAPPY CHRISTMAS LES,ERIC,WOODY,ALAN & DEREK.WE LOVE YOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • Looking back at the seventies is like looking at another planet.

  • @schultz970 Yeah. A better planet.

  • i was born in the wrong generation

  • ah the confident strutt of mr mckeown

  • Was this a Beatles song?

  • @mikes1962 Dusty Springfield

  • silly outfits.

  • @buddyeagle Rod Stewart of The Faces wore tartan outfits as well. It was the seventies. People were experimenting with style and fashion. Slik, another Martin-Coulter produced band wore baseball outfits, and they were Scottish! Don't blame the band. It was generally a management decision. The late Tam Paton probably decided on the band's attire.

  • 懐かしい!

    ウッディがマイクブッたおしちゃって途中からイアンのマイクに乱入?

  • Barbee - Ámor nyila

  • did they get their money back yet???

  • Les was the love of my life back in the 70s even though I was only about 12 I loved their songs but especially Les

  • @jockboi21 Me too

  • A classic pop song that who ever sings it does a good job - BCR/Dusty Springfield/Tourists or Samantha Fox............

  • イアンがいる~~~!!ウッキィ~~~!!!

  • 45 AND STILL LOVEM'..lot of good memories tied up with this band..sucks to get old!!! lol

  • Oh yeah huge crush! Loved these guys!

  • As a musician i would be pissed if i had to lipsync ALL the time

  • @beamerZ - I'm sure they played and sang live when they did concerts. It was fairly normal for bands to lip sync back in the mid 70s UK. Even bands like Queen and Pilot did it on TV.

  • @KeithTheKing they did play live-saw them in concert around the time of this single-it was total mayhem, but fab beyond my wildest teenage dreams!

  • I remember my plaid hemmed jeans. I had a huge crush on the guys.

  • Peko-chan, wow, she is happy with Leslie, very nice.

  • now listen honey i just wanna be beside you everywhere as long as we're together honey i don't care

  • can u believe it

  • i love les at the beginning of this-so sexy the way he shimmys!

  • The Arrows singer Alan Merrill was hanging out in Tokyo with Les's son Richard in Tokyo this week. Richard went to see Alan's show at the Shibuya Duo Exchange with his mum Peko.

  • I always took my lunch money and went to the local drugstore and bought Teen Beat, Tiger Beat or whatever magazine had the most Bay City Roller pictures in it! I still listen to their music faithfully!!

  • Yes, I bought Tiger Beat, too. But I followed David Cassidy. Now I feel rather sad I missed the Rollers!

    Damn cute.

  • I remember when they came to Bay City, Michigan

Shortly after SATURDAY came out. They had an escort to Bay City's, City Hall from the Tri City Airport, received a key from the Mayor and had their pictures on the front page of the Bay City Times. A special platform was built for the presentation thousands of people showed up and girls were screaming all over the place and they were doing only an appearance, no concert. I still have slides of the event.

    Chuck DJ/KJ AA8IY

  • I made my mother wait on the phone for 3 hours to get me tickets. My mom is great.

Now thinking back it was a total waste of money. lol

  • @smoothlyez -why? Was the show not good? I still remember seeing them when I was about 14-it was so crazy. the dressing up, screaming, seeing them in the flesh. I look back with fond affection. Boy, those were the days- all you had to worry about was which Roller you'd marry! keep rollin'!!

  • No way she just loves you. Any normal parent would have done this once for their kid.

  • DEVINE ! lol

  • I have lots of happy memories of the summer of 1975, rushing home from school every Tuesday to watch the Rollers on Shang-A-Lang at 4.20pm. Ah, the good old days!

  • BCR #1 Forever!!

  • yeah sure SlimeTron5000..Must be a pretty GOOD plague then ha?For after more than 30 years they're still there and they STILL have all their fans!Let's see who can say that of all the groups then&now! And IF it's a "plague" as you call it....I don't mind being "infected"at all!!

Just like all the thousands,I know, of Fans that are STILL there around the

And thanks for your great comments KeithTheKing! SlimeTron5000 can't win it from our Roller-Army anyway, right girls?

    Greets from Amsterdam-NL

  • Slime Tron has been banned from posting here.

  • rollers forever true teen stars

  • @slider876 Yes, outstanding teen icons.

  • These are the predecessors of the low-brow pop fad. The target audience are the idiots who are stimulated by simple lyrics, couplets, triads and the typical themes. They made a way for shitty boy bands like N*SYNC, The Backstreet Boys and 5ive - they spread like the plague in the 1990s.

Albeit technology has developed by humans, also the extent of information retrieval changed, the attitudes to music audience marketing did not change.

  • There are plenty of musical artists for elitists like yourself. Try Eldar or Soulive. Why are you watching this Bay City Rollers video if you hate it so much? There are people who love this stuff. You clearly don't, so just move on!

  • I moved on moments ago! I do not listen to the magnificent artists you described. However, it is best we open minds towards a criterion / opinion, regardless of the criterion it was forged. Humans asserting other opinions is not elitist because it broadens the boundary of free speech.

  • No, obviously you haven't moved on, you're still here. But not for long. LOL!

  • Pretentious moron

  • riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight good lad

  • "Saturday Night" is the one that got me hooked. There was a helluva lot of talent harnessed in with this group.

  • BRILL THE 70S FOREVER, ROLL ON

  • Awesome ! I had the albums,posters,etc.

I always thought the drummer looked alot like the drummer from "Hooty and the Blowfish" What a resemblance and they did a song "Only wanna be with you",or something to that effect. Funny coincidence, not the same guy but he reminded me of that drummer.. Pretty cool.

  • Look at those mullets! They are talented but I never liked them as much as the Osmond brothers. Just couldn't get into their outfits and they sounded like Hermans HERmits. They never really came out with any concept albums which I loved back in the 60's and 70's when groups did that, like the Beatles, Beach Boys and even the Osmonds did. Showed uniquness. Wish they had

  • No disrespect intended, but you clearly don't know much about the music business. When an artist or band is signed to a pop music label like Bell records they have basically given up artistic control of their product. As talented as a band may be, they can only release what the label allows them to and what the label feels will sell. The Beatles and Beach Boys were with serious labels like EMI and Capitol and those bands had almost complete artistic control.

  • those Osmonds white suits were any better?!?!?

  • Those are NOT mullets! (too short in front and long in back) That is shag, baby, and I LOVE it!

  • OMG Leslie is soooooo sexy!

  • Leslie's completely, completely dreamy!

  • American or English band?

  • Which band? The Bay City Rollers were primarily a Scottish band. The Arrows were an Anglo-American band.

  • What ever happened to them?

  • we all should write to arista & remind them who bought those records that made them so rich-bcrs fans!! the bcrs derserve their cut-if it hadnt had been for them arista wouldnt have made a dime!

it is a disgrace the way les, eric, woody alan &derek were treated like a work horse & aint getting what they are due.

  • Amen!!

  • @kinkygiraffe Amen to that! If people only knew how many millions of albums they sold, people don't have a clue, and yes someone made a lot of money off of them

  • @yellowrose62274 loved them

  • thats funny but still great because its about the music and not anything else. Even if the microphone fell.

  • this is really amazing!

i remember watching these guys on tv back in the day. they were on all the tiger beat magazines and everything. it was like a bay city rollers craze back then.

  • Este tema lo canto luis miguel!!!

Luis miguel sang this song in spanish!!

  • It's you ears that are crappy! LOL!

  • It's off of an over 30 year old video tape. You must be young and used to the digital age. It's a miracle this tape survived at all.

  • When they reached superstardom, couldn't they have worked out their contract with Bell/Arista, and produced good AOR rock, as they were talented enough to do. Something went wrong somewhere because they should all be retired multi-millionaires by now, up there with the likes of Pink Floyd, Elton John and Paul McCartney. Because, let's face it, they were popular enough.

  • Hated them then and still hate'em now. LOL!

  • why did you look them up then

  • great song of this fantastic band that today no many people remember it, despite they have sold over 75 million albums around the world...specially in UK and USA...

  • thats the breaks of "LIVE" tv !!! can't be redone once something wrong happens.

  • Go for it Les! love his dancing at the beginning..Does anyone know wether they got all their money back yet? It's bloody awful the millions theyv been cheated out of all these years.

  • Didn't recover the cash from Tam Paton, and he died from a heart attack last week.

  • The money that Arista records owes the Rollers still has not been recovered. But hopefully will be soon. At least if any of us loyal fans have anything to do with it. It's money that's rightfully theirs not the record company's.

  • oh Leslie, you just get better and better and now today still gorgeous....always and forever yours

  • Said ...bcrfan79 (5 months ago) Eric is on lead, Woody on bass, Derek on drums and les on lead vocals.

But there are five of them look at 1:55. i thought there were only 4 too

  • there was also Alan who was Derek brother but Ian stepped in to take Alan's place all to the shame of it.....ah but leslie!

  • OOooh my bad , forgot little Ian in there!

  • IAN IS SO CUTE! SO IS LESLEY!

  • Ian was wrapped up in a scandal involving his participation in an orgy when he was high.

  • oh my god i loved these when i was a teenager i loved eric the best hahah b.a.y b.a.y b.a.y c.i.t.y with ur r.o.l.l.e.r.s bay city rollers r the best hahahahah memories oh to be young

  • go0d song, ok rendition but Dusty did it better!

  • Hey, I remember this song... can't help singing along...

  • These guys had talent and looks to take them far. I remember this song when I was kid.

We need music like this in this day in age.

I wish you guys the best wherever you are all at!!!!!!!

  • My gosh!!! They were all over my bedroom walls. Loved 'em!! (still do)

  • Heavens! You had the Bay City Rollers all over your bedroom wall? What on earth were you doing with them?!

  • Same here - all the pics from "Tiger Beat", "16", etc. Loved those boys! And this was my favorite of their songs.

  • I love this, one of my favorites by them! Thanks for posting.

  • I met Ian Mitchell of the rollers when was with rossetta stone he was lovely and he gave me a kiss and i got his autograph

  • Oh you lucky girl, what I wouldn't give for a kiss from Ian Mitchell!!!!!!!!

  • This is great song!!!

  • best

  • love it

  • This is a very good group that could sing alot of great songs. ROCK ON GUYS! Thanks BAY CITY ROLLERS (DAB)

  • Wow, an open shirt, barechested lead singer. Pretty risque for 1976!

  • Nothing wrong with those young Scotsmen, those who produce so much of this crap we hear today could take lessons from these guys.

  • Great stuff :-)

  • I loved them.I even named one

    of my Cats after Ian:)

  • si no supiste amaaaar

    ahora t epuedes marchar

    jajajajjajajjajajajajajajajjajajajaja

  • So,did they actually play thier intsturments on thier albums?

  • You'd have to ask their producer Phil Coulter.

He has a website with an email address you can contact him at. If you ask nicely I'm sure he'll answer you.

  • who are the memembers from this era

like who played lead, rhythm, bass, sang and drums... thanks

  • Eric is on lead, Woody on bass, Derek on drums and les on lead vocals.

  • but theres 5 of them look at 1:55. i thought there were only 4 also.

  • @bcrfan79 and IAN is on rhythm...or didn't you know that? DUH!

  • Yummy! Love Ian and like how Woody used his mic when his fell down! ;p

  • Les and Eric and Ian are still mine mine mine I tell you.... seeing them still makes me wanna get all wicked in tartan...

  • Ha Ha!, nothing to do with the video, but I love your username! I'm sure there's a story in it somewhere!

  • OMG! I Saw Them In COncert! LOL!!!!!!! My GOd I was just Crazy In Love with these guys! Now i am in my forty's i just have to laugh

  • so crazy~~

  • I have to admit I liked them while they were around. This song was a Dusty Springfield classic and they did a good variation. Most people think this is a woman's song, but with a few minor changes in the lyrics, it's a great guy song too. We can love with all our hearts too.

  • this is one of this 1st if not the 1st song I ever heard from them-love them

  • Actually, they were Scottish. If you recall they pretty much always wore their plaid, which pretty much gave that away. LOL

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this. *What* memories. :o)

  • LOL so much waiting and watching then seeing woodys mic 2 funny poor dude

  • is eric barefooted?

  • ABBA was the "Beatles" of the 70s.

Samantha Fox has a nice cover version of this song.

  • I gave a 45 single of this song to my girlfriend Kathy Walkup when I was 19 and living in Cleveland. It was "our" song. She eventually broke up with me but we had a lot of fun.

  • lol, can any one band be any uglier? lol

  • our kid was great and i have their vid of u just might see me cry ill sort it a\nd adsd it on here

  • Still one of my favorite BCR songs :-)

  • These are the Bay City Rollers, a project put together by London management project. They were 4 guys picked out from a news paper add, Looking for good looking lads for talent show that can sing and play an instrument, sort of an Idol program of these days but was not on TV those days. They were mostly picked for there looks and age, only two of them actually played there instrument.
