Fascinating to compare this with Placido Domingo + Anna Netrebko. Those are more easy-going, more romantic, and Placido's aristoratic air is unsurpassed, as is Anna's girlish beauty. But Renee is gorgeous. And although Dimitri comes across a little wooden, calculating, almost Mephisto-like, the hand kiss at the end of this version has much more dramatic effect than the dance in the other version, though the dance is more romantic, of course.
Oh, yes, I think he did! He's watching her to get them. He does this every now & then, giving us the occasional "dar-de-dar" as filler or repeating an earlier verse. It's one of his most charming qualities, giving a human touch to all that Cary Grant perfection! Why don't they do this on stage?
No Hvo did not forget his text. It only sounds like that.
It is just his typical "mumbling" and throaty phrasing of text, here the German text "jeder Druck der Haende", which makes it sound like "dar-de-dar" (nice expression !).
fleming also speaks german fluently, and hvorostovsky has admitted that it is his most difficult language. at least he's trying; i still love hearing him
@njs2311 He's Russian and like most of his countrymen or even most of peoples of Slavic heritage, he is probably loath to even admit he can sing in German much less speak it. The reason is in history. From the time of the Teutonic Knights to the Nazis, the Germans always thought of Slavs as slaves and their lands, their lebensraum.
@Lan7a The slavs, particularly the Poles and Lithuanians, won the battle of Grunwald. And of course, the Russians finally put an end to the German threat to Slavic Europe in WWII, albeit with great losses.

Sorry, dear, but you have no idea. At least she knows German and pronounces it correctly. While he obviously didn't bother to learn the lyrics. He sings nonsense. And this comes from an Austrian. I DO know the Lehar stuff. His voice is okay though not overwhelming. Personally I like her voice better as clearer and stronger.
I totally agree with you. For some un-informed afficionados, it has become fashionable to stipulate that Renee Fleming mispronounces foreigh languages, which is absolutely false. Being sexta-lingual, I can truly confirm that her diction is close to perfect. Thank you vladtpesz19 for objecting so perfectly.
La Fleming's high B at the end was absolutley gorgeous just like the rest of their singing, but musically the interpolation was out of whack, imho. I think she should'vd ended with the high G, instead.

Very nice. Yeah, that finish is nice for the soprano line. On my phone's speaker I couldn't hear the bari, 큰양요.

Lehar´s orcestration is one of the best ever. So liking that but not so keen on Renees choise for finish tone, better stick with the original.

Her German is much better than his. Her pronounciation is nearly perfect. You can hardly hear an accent....
but what does is matter: both are great singers and the song is just beautiful.

Lippen schweigen,
's flüstern Geigen:
hab mich lieb!
All die Schritte
sagen: Bitte,
hab mich lieb!
Jeder Druck der Hände
deutlich mir's beschrieb.
Er sagt klar, 's ist wahr, 's ist wahr,
du hast mich lieb!
TedShepherd 3 years ago 2
Lips are silent,
violins whisper:
Love me!
Every step
says: please
love me!
Every hand-clasp
shows it clearly.
Now I know, it's so, it's so,
you love me!

Rather lyrical playing, a little too heavy-handed for Lehar... And now for the singers.
OMG! FABULOUS TALENTS! He's a bit heavy and dark for the role but WHO CARES! He is MAGNIFICANT! Her voice would be great for Wagner operas..
When they sing together ...AMAZING!

for Wagner ? You're not even serious, are you ? She's only a lirico.

too bad nobody put this Lippen Schweigen in Bry Terfel and Renee Fleming version. Bryn's amazing vibrato adds more value.. but this one is good.
