Fascinating to compare this with Placido Domingo + Anna Netrebko. Those are more easy-going, more romantic, and Placido's aristoratic air is unsurpassed, as is Anna's girlish beauty. But Renee is gorgeous. And although Dimitri comes across a little wooden, calculating, almost Mephisto-like, the hand kiss at the end of this version has much more dramatic effect than the dance in the other version, though the dance is more romantic, of course.

Oh, yes, I think he did! He's watching her to get them. He does this every now & then, giving us the occasional "dar-de-dar" as filler or repeating an earlier verse. It's one of his most charming qualities, giving a human touch to all that Cary Grant perfection! Why don't they do this on stage?

It is just his typical "mumbling" and throaty phrasing of text, here the German text "jeder Druck der Haende", which makes it sound like "dar-de-dar" (nice expression !).

@njs2311 He's Russian and like most of his countrymen or even most of peoples of Slavic heritage, he is probably loath to even admit he can sing in German much less speak it. The reason is in history. From the time of the Teutonic Knights to the Nazis, the Germans always thought of Slavs as slaves and their lands, their lebensraum.

La Fleming's high B at the end was absolutley gorgeous just like the rest of their singing, but musically the interpolation was out of whack, imho. I think she should'vd ended with the high G, instead.
