I love how he talks like his father had nothing when he came to Canada, but was able to send Michael to Upper Canada College, which is about $50,000/year now days
Nice videos, I like how they were made. But I have to ask, when will Michael Ignatieff start talking about Jobs? I am a student graduating this spring. What will he do for me?
My Yugoslavian father came to Canada because after a decade of weaving through Europe at the end of World War II, he finally landed in the UK but was never made to feel welcome. I exist because Canada was welcoming to him. Thank you for sharing your father's lovely story.
It's good to see that the Liberals aren't using fear mongering as part of their campaign. Conservative voters cite harper for working to provide a stable economy, but they always forget to mention that he spent like money grew on trees.
Why do so many criticize him for living/working abroad? Maybe 30 years ago some might have a go at you if you lived abroad (can't make it at home and other stuff). But in today's global economy, flexibility should be valued.
This kind of reminds me of what John Kerry went thru when he ran for President.
Thank you for allowing comments (instead of censoring them like the CPC does with their videos).
In case there's any doubt about what Dr. Ignatieff is saying about his father in this video, the story of his father George is also posted on the Canadian Government's Citizenship and Immigration webpage (don't tell Jason Kenney!), within "Forging Our Legacy: Canadian Citizenship and Immigration, 1900–1977
Chapter 4 Immigration Slump" under the heading "George Ignatieff: Peacemonger" (google it)
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your moving storey. I can truly appreciate your passion and vision for Canada. Like you, my Grandfather (Gigi) came here from the Ukraine in the very early 1900's at the young age of 14, alone, to make a better life for himself. He was a true pioneer who did not let the many hardships he faced wear him down. He worked his hands to the bone to make his life here GOOD for his children, grand children, great grand children, and many generations yet to come.
The Conservatives have taken it upon themselves to attack the late George Ignatieff -- Michael Ignatieff's father, as seen in the video, and Canada's former Ambassador to the UN.

Most "Canadian Stories" don't involve leaving the country to live/work elsewhere.
