@yaywhewclips242 Just a bad system. Screen was way too small and there wasn't enough graphical variety for a cartridge system. The way you changed the games out was also not very kid friendly. Very easy to damage something.
Actually watch out, cos you can fry the internal chip on the games by pulling down that little flap where the pins are, if you have built some static on your body
@illydinxaxen according to wikipedia that was for the early intel powered units, the later texas instruments models only needed one and the other slot was a "extra battery holder"
the reason why peoples screen systems started failing was due to static shock, i read about it in a book. A guy by the name of John elder robison was a leader behind the development of this system. the original systems failed quickly but apparently they modifyed the environment in which these systems were manufactured in to keep it static free. that was after christmas in 1979 due to all the failed units around that time.
tons of handheld interchangable game based systems came out before the gameboy. microvision, tiger playmaker, coleco total control, entex select a game, adventurevision. its debatable which came first. but they were all pretty cool
I had one with blockbuster ,baseball, and bowling. blockbuster and baseball quit working I think due to esd and bowling died probably due to the screen failing.
Brings back memories! I received one for Christmas in '79, screen went out within days. We got a replacement and the same thing happened, my mom returned that one and that was that, never had another one. Nice to see you have a working model!
Well, the two 9V batteries are only required for early models.
I own three MB Microvisions, none of which requires more than one 9V battery - they all must be newer devices with a different CPU from the original design.
Actually, I never saw any unit requiring both 9V batteries.
The batteries power the system for quite some time. I never tried but I assume that the power of 1 9V battery is enough for one week of continuous play. Maybe even way more. But this is experience from new units only.
It's not that hard to find a Microvision, however it's much harder to find a system that actually works considering the screen went out a lot on these due to their age.
Yeah it is an interesting handheld. Only released in Japan I believe. I've looked into it, and perhaps someday I'll pick one up. Thanks for the recommendation.

@illustriouschin just make sure NOT to apply pressure to the screen, otherwise it will fuck up the screen's visuals

Great video!
The system is a pioneer, and actually tjhe idea of having every cartridge have its own unique buttons is very cool and unique if you think about it.
Thanks for posting!

You can not really the tiger playmaker and the coleco total control have interchangable Games.
The Cards only change the Circuit in the System like the Odyssey, so its not possible to programm the System.
One of the Beste Pre Gameboy Handhelds for me was the Japan only Pocket Computer, an really impressive System.

Good video with a fair review of the system.
I think the MB Microvision is great.
Actually played this beast a lot - especially Blockbuster.
There is another MB Microvision review where I posted winning strategies for Blockbuster.
Other good titles of the MB Microvision include (IMHO):
- Alien Raiders (Blitz)
- Connect 4
- Super Blockbuster
- See Duel (even though I think the submarinee is better off than the battleship)

So the Microvision itself is just one half of the unit, the game is the other half. Strange handheld but good to know it was the first portable.

Mapleholic 2 years ago
Actually, Blockbuster is anything but crap.
I played this a lot way back in the mists of the past.
And actually after a lot of practice and some experimenting you find good winning strategies.
Very sensitive controller though - it takes some time getting used to.
My highscore using the standard settings (7 balls, S(low new ball), T(hree pixel bat)) is something like 1250 points.
Remark: After 999 points the counter returns to zero.
I posted winning strategies at another MB Microvision review.
SechsFluegel 2 years ago
That is one of the weirdest things ever. The game is like the same size of the system!
I like Star Trek as well. The new movie actually looks decent, but I am still skeptical. We haven't had a good one since First Contact in my opinion.
