if this is Phil Spector talking, his voice has sure changed at the Murder Trial Press Conference's. THIS IS THE SAME COPY THAT IS ON MY "Celebrities at their worst" CD (vol 3-which I had a hand in making) same skip!!!
It is indeed Phil on this. The quotes on Snopes are almost lifted straight from Dave Thompson's most credible biography Wall of Pain - "Then, when Sil, out of patience at last brought in his own lawyer to launch legal proceedings, Spector retailiated with a gift that was almost breathtaking in it's pettiness."
"Gathering together The Cystals, Michael Spencer and a handful of other muscians...... Spector's piano plunking a jaunty boogie and Spector himself interrupting every 30 secs or so"
this is on the snoops.com websight. no one is sure if that is phil (watch the videos and hear his voice on his murder trial youtube videos press conference) plus this better sounding quality version has the same skip as the one on the cd i have.
I was thinking about making copies of this and sending them to all of these assholes that have SCREWED ME OVER in my life-but on second thought, they probably are too stupid to get the joke.....
Not really a bad song. Too bad it didn't backfire and become his biggest hit! Karma is a bitch. (Well, he's in prison now, so it just goes to show you.)
Nope. This was directed at Lester Sill, Spector's business partner at the time, who Phil certainly 'screwed' over. Spector wasn't exactly a massively sexual being.
OMG!!! I heard this song on the radio about 6 or 7 years ago and I've been looking for it ever since. It is so halarious but at the same time very catchy. This song will be stuck in my head for days.
This is a prime example of what makes Youtube great. Been wanting to hear the song for decades after hearing about it's existence back in the late '80s. It's hilarious and kinda dadaistic too. :) Thanks for uploading mhfanandssidirector! :D
What makes this track all the more unusual is the absence of Phil's usual 'Wall of Sound' production. Mind you, I don't think all those musicians would appreciate being dragged into the studio to record an unreleasable song!
Glad someone had the class(?), guts(?), grapefruits to post this...have never heard Part 2, but now I will...thanks for sharing the oddest Spector obscurity of them all...way cool
This had to be the greatest revenge scheme in human history. The fact that he actually had the balls to call it "The Screw", as he was screwing his former business partner out of royalties... just wow. The Rolling Stones later did this same thing to Decca Records, but they were a lot less subtle about it...
As I understand it, Lester Sill was to be paid royalties on the next Philles single as part of a buyout arrangement....and this was said single...never officially being released, there couldn't have been much in the way of royalties
@TGTSTS it is kinda catchy, certainly adaptable to several dance steps in '63. What a hoot it would have been to have Phil's plan backfire, with this becoming a surprise pop smash!
@m1kewithaone Oh I agree, they would have had to edit it down to the requisite 2.5 minutes for AM airplay. At lease they'd have a lot of tape to pull from.
For a song that was supposed to be bad on purpose, this is kinda catchy. The fact that it had an attorney saying "Dance the Screw" was so apropo. This song was certainly produced this way to "screw" Lester Sill our of royalties. Cocky Chambers, Village TV
screw this song !

As an amphetamine-fueled kid in the 60s I could have seen myself dancing to this for four minutes. Part II is another issue...

"An attorney", villagegaytv? Oh, no, it's *much* better than that --- it's Phil, himself! :-))
sdingeswho 2 years ago
It's disputed whether this is Phil or his attorney. Sounds like Phil to me though.

I think Phil's voice was higher, and reedier. He actually sings along with the backing vocals (falsetto) on "There's No Other." So I've been told.

Thanks for posting this. I was reading about Phil Spector and there was a reference to this song. I was curious. The song is weird but thanks.
