Listen, the 5th SS Wiking Division was an Elite SS Division with all the combat fighting capablity as any other SS original formations. We could go on for centuries speaking of the Waffen SS, they ALL fought well, and died in some of the most brutal fighting on the Eastern Front. And they beat the Soviet Army in EVERY battle there was on the Eastern Front. The SS was the best fighting unit in WWII, and let us NOT forget.

Following his death Wäckerle's widow Elfriede was expected to devote her life to mourning her husband but instead she moved in with a man named Johann Herzog. Outraged Himmler personally had Herzog sent to a concentration camp.
The finnish battalion was praised by many Waffen-SS commanders, even Heinrich Himmler, for its combat performance. Himmler said "Where a Finnish SS-man stood, enemy was always defeated."
It s a shame Germans, than Dutch and than Danes don t get the praise of the fightingspirit of this division. Mostly Germans and Dutch fought in it. Danes had their own Freikorps eventually where most of them fought eventually. The Estonians joined up from "43 onwards, when crack veteran Finnish men left Wiking. They were poor replacements.

moreover, Estonians served from 1943 onwards. By that time the SS was degraded by Muslim units and Slav divisions. Wiking was raised in 1940/41. Only Germanic troops were allowed.

Yes, the battle of Narva can be considerd the biggest defensive victory ever, from february until august the germans, danes, norvegians, dutch, valonnes, latavians, estonians, hungarians and many more hold the front agisnt a force 3 times stronger as their own, the russians failed, lost over 100000 men while the defenders only lost some 14000.
Its not a nazi victory, its a european victory against communism.

At Narwa the SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" was heavely engaged in the defence of the bridgehead.
Along with the rest of the "Nordland" Division the Regiment held the lines until July 1944 then the III. Germanische SS Panzer Korps had to retreate to the Tannenberg Lineand.

moreover, Estonians served from 1943 onwards. By that time the SS was degraded by Muslim units and Slav divisions. Wiking was raised in 1940/41. Only Germanic troops were allowed.

@Ludendorf The Waffen SS Brigade Niederlande fought at Narwa (Leningrad and back to Berlin). No where near the Wiking Division. Bullets don ' t discriminate, I agree....but when you are at the back of the line doing police work.....you won t meet a lot of bullets.

My grandfather fought with Wiking and never mentioned any Estonians, he did mention Germans, Dutch, Danes and Finns.....

Yes, the battle of Narva can be considerd the biggest defensive victory ever, from february until august the germans, danes, norvegians, dutch, valonnes, latavians, estonians, hungarians and many more hold the front agisnt a force 3 times stronger as their own, the russians failed, lost over 100000 men while the defenders only lost some 14000.
Its not a nazi victory, its a european victory against communism.

The Nederland Division had its golden time there. They, together with our Scandinavian brothers, defended their posts till the last bullet before they died.

They were brave men and fought well on the front.

Well estonians were germanic, Estonia has historicaly been part of east prussia, kindom of sweden and the teutonic order (considerd germanic heroic knigths) was in estonia. Estonians are not looking like russians, rathr like sweden (I am a swede) and they speak a own language but they are germanic thats for sure.

At Narwa the SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" was heavely engaged in the defence of the bridgehead.
Along with the rest of the "Nordland" Division the Regiment held the lines until July 1944 then the III. Germanische SS Panzer Korps had to retreate to the Tannenberg Lineand.

@Ialocin1985 Himmler didn t believe the Estonians, Latvians nor Lithuanians were of pure Germanic descent. The Fins weren't and aren t considered Germanic. The Finns did fight with zeal and were known as one of the toughest warriors within the SS Volunteer corps. The Estonians, I have to admit, got the most Ritterkreuzes/Knight Crosses (after the Dutch). When one looks at the Wiking Division it was one of the most succesfull Northern European fighting forces of the war.

Germans comprised most of this Division. Than came the Dutch in Regiment Westland, after that Danes and Flemish and than other Scandinavians besides the Danes.
Estonians served in their own Grenadier Division, a division DER waffen SS(non Germanic offspring), not a Waffen SS division (only for Germanic offspring).

SS the best? This Wiking crap got its ass badly beaten by a single understrength 8,000 strong Soviet Guard Division. The rest mauled again. Then eliminated. Whole Wehrmacht and Waffen SS simply didn't know how to fight and were utter cowards. As a matter of killing, they were very prone in killing defenceless civilian population. Utter crap.

My grandpa served in this division and I can tell you one thing, they never got anihilated, even till the end they fought with no supplies against a 30 to one average. They never backed down. At 0:14 Sturmbannfuhrer Per Sørensen is seen. He died in the last dayes in the battle of Berlin.
Der Freikorps was under Division Wiking. The korps changed name to Regiment 24. in 1944. 8.000 Danish men fought on Eastenfront.
