Xplane 10 is great but if you have been given an aircraft and you want better (even happy to pay!), you can't most aircrafts are not made professionaly, in xp 10, there is a very well improved 747-400, but still many things are not clickable and not operational, Fromm what i know this is never the case with PMDG 747-400, yes you pay but atleast its an option!!!!
X-plane lacks quality addons like PMDG and most of their addons don't have virtual cockpits. Orbx, Carenado, fsdreamteam, wilco, justflight, CLS, etc all quality addons that continue to develop and update FSX. Ill be getting PMDG 777, Coolsky DC-9, and Ground Service X soon (with it, i can get luggage trucks, catering and animated people to come around and service my aircraft). My flight school exclusively uses FSX to train us and I'll be gettting my private pilots license in the Summer!
Flight simulator by far but I would take FS9 over FSX missions because they let me practice with the air controls and if I miss a transmission (since I never intend to sit and stare at clouds for a 3 hour flight) they continue to ask if I acknowledged their last. In most FSX missions they co-pilot confirms for me and I don't get the right direction or misguides me (on the secret shuttle mission I descending and he told me to go back to 14k feet. I did. Big mistake).
@20284488 You and the people who gave you a thumbs up probably want to fly as a game. People who fly FSX play because they want to use a simulator not a game. I know 4 real pilots for multiple big airlines really well and they all use FSX and PMDG aircraft to practice. Three of them tried X-Plane 9 & 10 but they just see it more as a game for people who are more amateurs (no offence) or are less serious about flying etc. Just saying
@Magicpianoteacher Why don't you check out X-Plane 10, which uses Google Street Map so the roads are where they are in real life, the planes are much more realistic than FSX and the flying is much more realistic. To say anything, I think FSX is much more "cartoony" than X-Plane.

I am X-Plane user, right few days ago X-Plane 10 BETA Demo came out and well... It needs a great computer, but It's for the graphics. I think X-Plane wins. Just watch my videos and you will see, that You can have fun in X-Plane 9 and also you can do very realistic school circuits with it. I reccommend X-Plane.

FSX is what I run, but its a pig on processor needs...however, the new X-Plane version 4 is looking awfully dang tempting...I might make the jump..we'll see soon wont we?
I have them both and if you download REX, FEX, and UT add-ons for FSX, it blows x-plane out of the water. Also, add-on airplanes from Aerosoft and Real-air are very realistic. There are way too many glitches for x-plane and it feels like a beta version of something out of a developers basement.

This Is How I put the creators of X-Plane and MSFS,Creators of MSFS; A big company that focus al little more than on Just a FS. They have Comp. OS X-Box, and Mirosoft Office. They only come out with updates every 2 to 4 years i guess. which means, no small bug fixes and stuff like that. MSFS Has better and more scenery than X-Plane, doesnt make it a better Sim Just makes it better scenery wise. It might have better cockpits in the aircrafts than X-plane. They come out with periodic updates for small bug fixes the first up date i had when i got X-Plane was like 9.30 like a year ago and now there on 9.70. and they've alredy got a release Monnth for X-Plane 10. I agree that both have pros and cons. I also agree tht they are just as good as each other but when x-plane 10 comes out then I hope that i am right in saying that it will be better than FSX.
Both are decent sims, but look anywhere and you'll see that everyone agrees x-plane has better physics. FSX does also have ok physics but you're just mentioning one of the several thousand planes available for x-plane. Just watch some video's or compare when actually flying the sims, most of the planes handle way better on x-plane. Don't get me wrong, both are very fun programs.
fsx dominates in physics, details of aircraft, runway and airport textures, traffic systems, flying realistics, and add-ons. take a pmdg 747 against every single x-plane addon and it will not be a hard contest. x-plane has slightly better ground textures, but that changes when you get ultimate terrain x for fsx. i only make x-plane videos and not fsx videos because x-plane will run on my mac, which has a built in screen recorder. my pc running fsx is much better for simming.
@HongKongBoyz100 FSX has better scenery. That's the only way its better. When you said that FSX physics are better, that made me lol. FSX looks pretty and has nice textures on the planes, while x-plane is a real flight simulator as opposed to a game. Sure x-plane is ugly as hell, but its way more realistic of a flying experience.

yes both are tied...X-plane= better flight dynamics, better customization and ease of use, amazing/realistic flight dynamics..realistic water and terrain. FSX=better add-ons, more operational realism (such as FMS and more support for vatsim), better eye-candy and buildings etc. X-plane=get if you like GA flying and realism of flight. FSX=get if you want to fly VATSIM and if you want to fly heavy airliners.
@ibaneztippman i actually prefer ga flying in fsx, i believe flight dynamics are better actually. i fly cessna 172's (in training) and in the xplane version it is WAY to touchy. also in xplane i can get the plane to 30 knots and not stall!!! thats the speed my ultralight (in real life) flies! i do make xplane vids though because xplane runs on my mac (which has a free recording system) but my pc with fsx is much more realistic and juste plane fun (pardon the pun)

X-plane 9 IS THE QOREST SIM I ever had. I can run fsx at medium settings but on x-plane even the lowest setting is unplayable and city mapping for most part is inaccurate compared to fsx and the real world. And it's annoying when they have there boaring ads

I think both are great, but X-Plane is designed for realism and is more of a simulator than FSX. FSX was probably designed to be more fun, but is slightly less realistic.

It's called a Boeing 747, and the 172 SP's shown in Microsoft Flight Simulator were actually older versions of the 172. They are not comparable to the newer 172's. Also, the water effects shown in FSX were not set to maximum, though it appears the X-Plane settings were more or less on high settings. I liked the lol's for the X-Plane though :) Nice video (wasn't trying to be mean, just pointing out the errors some might want to consider before buying one of these programs.) :)
FSX is better. Not a LOT better but a little bit. I've watched videos of XP9 and the graphics are not good like FSX. In the vid, FSX water was....not good, cuz it was not at its best. And are there any X-Plane 9 "Legends"(whatever, there's not word to describe) like Cessna154? Nope. C154 does/plays/flies FSX. Not good traffic in XP9. In my opinion, as in the opinions of most others, FSX rules.

In MSFSs, you can communicate verbally. In X-Plane you have to type to one another. Also the radio is more realistic in MSFSs than in X-Plane. Austin Meyer, the creator of X-Plane, says in X-Plane 10 most of these problems will be solved. Also the graphics will be higher and the system requirements will be lower. I wish I knew more about Microsoft - I would be able to give a less biased approach.
360TRiiCKZ that too can be changed by installing the right plugin. There are downs to X-Plane. For instance, you can not fly from Earth to the Moon. On default there are no weapon effects and explosion effects. The sim takes literally 5 minutes to start and there are even more downs. MSFSs have superior MP capacities. In X-Plane, you need to know the other person's IP address and you can only have up to 20 people playing on one server. {continued in next comment}
...Sure, you have to download that scenery, but most of those files are free. 100mdb, in X-Plane, you have to select weither of not you WANT those lines by going to the rendering options window. Because (in X-Plane) the lines are so detailed having them there could slow your computer. Same thing goes for many other features. At 2:14, that is fixable by installing downloadable plugins. Yes, almost the whole simulator can be changed by installing plugins. {continued in next comment}
I've never played FSX or FS09 but from what I've heard about them, I think X-Plane's the best. The only advantage I see about Microsoft's flight simulators vs the ones from Laminar Research is the Multiplayer-friendliness. Like PlaneAU said, "Xplane runs on a real physics engine, fsx runs on pre recorded tables! Meaning an a380 can be made to fly like a cessna!". X-Plane 9 and 10 are the best for a lot of reasons...
1. They use Blade-Element theory, which makes it much, much more realistic than FSX and FS9 combined.
2. X-Plane 10 has Open Street Map, which places all the roads almost accurately.
3. It does not crash randomly in mid-flight, unlike FSX which will make an error and then you have to restart the program.
I am keeping FSX as my secondary flight simulator, but for now, I'll use X-Plane 9 (I'll get X-Plane 10 later) as my primary.

I have them all, x-plane looked better on my older pent-d, but on my i3 fsx blows it out the water, as far as my 2 cents on the physic go.
X-plane has the "base physics" which all planes are built on, this works well apart from its stuck with its only limitations (not perfect)
FSXs plane physics are down to the plane builder, comps like Aerosoft do a great job, while some others can be hit and miss......or just crap.
overall I like FSX cus, 1.I grew up with MSFS 2. ATC 3.traffic 4online

@MrBigyellowbus seriously?! the physics in fsx dominate x-plane. i fly c172's and x-planes default 172 makes me feel like im flying a diamond katana: touchy as hell. i can take off at 15 knots in a 172 in xplane. thats slower than it takes to fly my ultralight (in real life)! I could land a 172 3/4 down the st barts runway. if that is "realistic" i'll eat my shit.

yes both are tied...X-plane= better flight dynamics, better customization and ease of use, amazing/realistic flight dynamics..realistic water and terrain. FSX=better add-ons, more operational realism (such as FMS and more support for vatsim), better eye-candy and buildings etc. X-plane=get if you like GA flying and realism of flight. FSX=get if you want to fly VATSIM and if you want to fly heavy airliners.

@ibaneztippman i actually prefer ga flying in fsx, i believe flight dynamics are better actually. i fly cessna 172's (in training) and in the xplane version it is WAY to touchy. also in xplane i can get the plane to 30 knots and not stall!!! thats the speed my ultralight (in real life) flies! i do make xplane vids though because xplane runs on my mac (which has a free recording system) but my pc with fsx is much more realistic and juste plane fun (pardon the pun)

The default planes on Xplane are terrible. If you get some addon planes, you will realise they are much more realistic than any FSX aircraft.
Xplane uses real time physics simulation while fsx just uses codes off air files.
Plus in Xplane the stalls are much more realistic when it comes to trying to recover the stall.
I am an fs9 user myself as I believe it is in between fsx and xplane, but xplane wins some of the realism.

@RainfulPhenix you fuckin kidding me mate? ever got fsx addons? pmdg, flight1, aerosoft? plus there is atleast a 1000:1 ratio of addons from fsx to x-plane. 99/100 addons you get for x-plane are absolute SHIT. ever seen ORBX scenery? cheap as hell, some of it even free, and it makes you feel like you are really flying around the real world. search FTX ORBX in google and go to one of the products, look at the screenshots and then try the 3D tour they have. Then tell me who has better addons.

Orbx? Yes, great addons. But guess what? Buy xplane and you get 60GB worth of custom scenery. Meaning unique scenery.
Xplane does not need scenery addons as everything already comes with the package.
I think you should do some more research. And swearing over a fucking home computer simulator makes you look like a small kid.

I HAVE the full version of x-plane AND fsx and they both have all world scenery. the only difference is x-plane scenery looks like dog shit! if anyone needs to do more research, its you mate. oh and guess what? fsx manages to put all of that scenery into just 13GB, unlike x-planes ridiculous 60GB. I am asking laminar research for a refund because it swallowed my hole f*cking computer with shit scenery

it is your fault for buying such a demanding simulator for a shit computer of yours. that 13GB of fsx scenery is just stock scenery. You have an option for Xplane to install an extra 60GB worth of "addon" scenery.
And oh yeah, Xplane is FAA approved. I have done my research mate, and you are wrong.

X-plane 9 IS THE QOREST SIM I ever had. I can run fsx at medium settings but on x-plane even the lowest setting is unplayable and city mapping for most part is inaccurate compared to fsx and the real world. And it's annoying when they have there boaring ads

@lobbyhobbybobbydubob My opinion - X-Plane looks cartoonish. The only two better things that X-Plane has over FSX are default aircraft with better physics (I never use default) and better water textures.
FSX on a low-spec computer will look like a piece of crap.
Mid-spec? Average, at most.
High-end? Acceptable.
Core i7 OC'd to 3.8GhZ with 12GB of Ram and an nVidia GTX 590 with an ASUS motherboard and a 512GB SSD and two 1TB 7200RPM WD RAID? YES. Best flight simulator experience, period.

I think both are great, but X-Plane is designed for realism and is more of a simulator than FSX. FSX was probably designed to be more fun, but is slightly less realistic.

Actually it is a 744. Which is a 747-400.They all end with 7 so its been dropped to shorten the ATC call to 744!!

It's called a Boeing 747, and the 172 SP's shown in Microsoft Flight Simulator were actually older versions of the 172. They are not comparable to the newer 172's. Also, the water effects shown in FSX were not set to maximum, though it appears the X-Plane settings were more or less on high settings. I liked the lol's for the X-Plane though :) Nice video (wasn't trying to be mean, just pointing out the errors some might want to consider before buying one of these programs.) :)

FSX is better. Not a LOT better but a little bit. I've watched videos of XP9 and the graphics are not good like FSX. In the vid, FSX water was....not good, cuz it was not at its best. And are there any X-Plane 9 "Legends"(whatever, there's not word to describe) like Cessna154? Nope. C154 does/plays/flies FSX. Not good traffic in XP9. In my opinion, as in the opinions of most others, FSX rules.

In MSFSs, you can communicate verbally. In X-Plane you have to type to one another. Also the radio is more realistic in MSFSs than in X-Plane. Austin Meyer, the creator of X-Plane, says in X-Plane 10 most of these problems will be solved. Also the graphics will be higher and the system requirements will be lower. I wish I knew more about Microsoft - I would be able to give a less biased approach.

360TRiiCKZ that too can be changed by installing the right plugin. There are downs to X-Plane. For instance, you can not fly from Earth to the Moon. On default there are no weapon effects and explosion effects. The sim takes literally 5 minutes to start and there are even more downs. MSFSs have superior MP capacities. In X-Plane, you need to know the other person's IP address and you can only have up to 20 people playing on one server. {continued in next comment}

...Sure, you have to download that scenery, but most of those files are free. 100mdb, in X-Plane, you have to select weither of not you WANT those lines by going to the rendering options window. Because (in X-Plane) the lines are so detailed having them there could slow your computer. Same thing goes for many other features. At 2:14, that is fixable by installing downloadable plugins. Yes, almost the whole simulator can be changed by installing plugins. {continued in next comment}

I've never played FSX or FS09 but from what I've heard about them, I think X-Plane's the best. The only advantage I see about Microsoft's flight simulators vs the ones from Laminar Research is the Multiplayer-friendliness. Like PlaneAU said, "Xplane runs on a real physics engine, fsx runs on pre recorded tables! Meaning an a380 can be made to fly like a cessna!". Also, all of the scenery in FSX has better counterparts in X-Plane. {continued in next comment}
