only suggestion is I would start the series with safety gear. I'm not sure it is a good influence to let new riders see tennis shoes and a shirt. At least advise hard shoes/boots and a hardy jacket or pads.
@TheSovietPuppy Yes they do make automatics, but riding a manual transmission motorcycle is a lot more fun. You feel a little more involved in the ride rather than just sitting back and steering like in an automatic car. It also takes alot more practice and skill to master it. But that's just my opinion.
Okay, people are arguing 70:30, 80:20 and even 60:40. To be honest, beginners (and even experts) won't be able to get the ratio right. Don't confuse people with percentages. Just say the majority of stopping power comes from the front brake. Furthermore, if you're braking at a stoplight, that's when the front brake to rear brake ratio comes in. If you're shifting speeds because you come to a school zone (from 30 mph to 20 mph), the rear brake should be used exclusively for deceleration.
@MrJadems there are a few, the one i know of isnt fully automatic but is semi meaning that there is no clutch and you can just shift but that only has two gears and it is a honda cm450 and a cm400
It's been an addictive experience. I have ridden about 1,000 so far and love it. Finished an MSF course last weekend so now I'm looking forward to my first 3 hour ride. I'm getting ready to ride 3 hours on 2 lane highways from Sacramento to Napa.
GREAT VIDEO, SIMPLE EASY TO UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS, I'M CLOSING IN ON MY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF GETTING MY ENDORSEMENT IN THE STATE OF CT., WATCHED ALL YOUR VIDEOS OVER & OVER, THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO PUT TOGETHER SUCH WELL ORGANIZED INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS. "RIDE SAFE"!
hi there, i am new to motorcycling.. does stalling your motorcycle have a bad effect on the engine? and sometimes when i stall the engine, i restart it immediately using the push button, does it have a bad effect too? and also, when im panicking on the road when i stall my engine, upon restarting i didn't realize it was on the second gear, so i start moving my bike on second gear instead on the first gear, thus, stalling it again... am i giving my bike too much abuse? am i destroying my engine?
I already have my motorcycle license, but I don't yet have a motorcycle, (took a class). When I'm at a red light, I see people using their clutch as the brake instead of the actual brakes, I have heard people say that that's stupid and a great way to kill your motorcycle's life. Is it true?
Also, both of the brakes will light up the rear brake light, correct?
Do you still holding down the break with your right hand when your beginning to ride? So you're basically slowly letting go of the cluth AND the brake at the same time with both hands?
@EnsiGeetard Maybe its because it is easier to get to second gear if you were, say, coasting in neutral to a red light and it turns green so you can just nudge the gear shift into second and keep truckin. Instead of going through first.
@EnsiGeetard I think it's for safety. If neutral was at the bottom you would have to shift into to find first at a stoplight which leaves you vulnerable. If 1st is at the bottom when you shift all the way down you can get going real quick if you need to evade something
Hi,very nice video, pls help me just one thing,so...always when i want to pop in higher gear i need to totaly release gas, pull the clutch, shift in higher gear, release clutch smoothly and then add gas also nice and smooth?
And in which gear do i need to be when im going through corners?
I watched this video religiously a few weeks ago when I got my first geared bike, (I was on an auto before) and, I just thought I'd come back and say thankyou so much for posting this, It was the only video I could find that was just nice and simple but at the same time clever, well thought. All the others are just people on powerfull sports bikes trying to tell me to do a clutchless shift of blip the throttle, and on a 31 year old 125cc, that wasn't what I wanted, lol. Btw, beautiful bike:)
will anything bad happen if i don't pull the clutch in when i start my bike? i always have my bike in neutral before i start it up and i dont depress or hold in the clutch. does it harm the bike at all?
@cali4niaguy88 "Nothing too powerful". Mate, trust me, don't start in an 800cc motorcycle. It's difficult enough on a 125cc, I would say don't start on anything above 250cc.
@rimfa123 yeah of course bro. im starting with a ninja 250 as a beginner. but eventually im going to get a ducati. curiosity just made ask if italian cycles work the same way as american and even japanese. you dig?
Thank you friend. Your tutorials helped me in a nice smooth first ride on my new motorbike earlier today. The way you emphasized on the more important points in all your tutorials is really helpful for new riders. Thanks again. :)
Just went to my 1st day of riding at motorcycle school. These vids have been very helpful at filling in some of the gaps. theres a lot to take in the first day : /
@utubeb14 yup - they're called scooters. :/ (i've got a 50cc moped atm and i'm getting my first motorbike - honda cbf 125 - in 15 days, if i were you just stick to motorbikes. scooters/mopeds sound horrible, acceleration is definitely something to be desired and you'll find motorbikes are better lookers, too) :)
1st off.. great video but when he said ok.. now were gonna add some throttle to the friction zone i shit my pants.. i was lost in the moment lol. i just signed up for my course.. and il be riding a 750 gsxr :|
i was actually crapping a brick when i thought of getting a bike. what was going through my mind was "im gonna fall off when i lean into turns" or "im gonna over rev my bike and it will blow up beneath me" but you are awesome. i am thinking of getting a bike soon. XD i cant wait. thanks dude XD ily
This has always been my big fear even though I drive standard in my car. Your video makes it look alot simpler than I was imagining. Hopefully I don't screw it up on my test lol

Thanks for posting the video (over here you can't ride a bike without extensive courses anyway, but it's nice to see what it's about before starting)!
Best motorcycle instruction video ever. Even though i'm 23 months away from actually getting my first motorcycle lessons, I still find it very interesting to see this and it will prepare me more for the first lessons. I also drive a scooter so I already get how the steering works, not really hard, just like a bicycle but then at high speeds. Cool vids and keep them going :)
How Exactly do you down shift? like Would you close the throttle pull in he clutch then down shift then realese the clutch and add thorrle agian? or what im a litle confused on that part
I suggest a "rev match" you pull the clutch in, just BARELY open the throttle kick down release clutch with throttle slowly closing. This will prevent the bike from surging. Don't do this until your precise with the controls. - In that case you should be braking and pulling the clutch in when the rpms are low and holding till you stop.

mjlar94 2 years ago
Yes! lol How is that for a short and sweet response.
Just remember once you master the throttle and clutch it is a very very very quick action.
1. Close throttle
2. While pulling in clutch
3. Shift up or down
4. Release clutch smoothly
5. While adding throttle again
This all happens in the blink of an eye once you get used to it.
