  • INSANE grade climb between 3:23 and 4:02, and the perfect angle too! Were these always locally owned tracks, or did these once belong to a larger carrier? Most of our shortlines once belonged to larger carriers.

  • Great video. Whole lotta shankin' goin' on....lol

  • That was a great video...thanks for posting~!

  • Engineer on board rocking cala train: I think I'm going to *barf*!!

  • holy cow! @2:00 i never seen a train wobble so much!

  • i love watching these shorty vids! i love the diversity of motive power. everything from ALCO's to 1st generation gp's.they are just so much more interesting than watching class 1 roads, were the only time you get to see anything but gevo's and a few sd's, is when the local comes through.

  • Beautiful K5LA on the GP7!

  • is the f7 still running or has she been scraped?

  • @arkie74 The F7 is operational but not running.

  • @arkie74 The F7 is operational but not running.

  • Gosh, those tracks are in horrible shape. But of course, on a shortline they don't need speed anyway. Interesting, to watch the rock and roll. :)

  • angled joints as well. If they were square joints the whole thing would bob up and down......

  • thats a severe case of low joints........

  • Do you have and video of trains going through Nichols,South Carolina? I spent my childhood summers there. I see in this video the train is out of Fair Buff. ls that the same rail line that goes into Nichols? Real nice footage, nice work!

  • it would be so nice to run a shortline. its a blast from the past and u avoid all the hustle n bustle of the big industry railroads

  • Quite amazing. Brave engineer?

  • Amazing video. Great statement on the CALA. How does it stay on the rails. One bridge at the end of the Myrtle Beach Branch is so week they use back hoes to shove cars across. Amazing little lines.

  • at 2:10 look at the side to side sway action going on!!!

  • Great shots.

  • I enjoyed hearing Mr. Bob White at 4:12

  • @SCL1306 Yep we have a bunch of those in SC.

  • @SCL1306 Me too!! Don't hear them much any more

  • spectacular video. how old are those tracks and how often are they used....just nice to see the line hasnt been abandoned.

  • awsome video!!!!!!! 8n8 and the need for surface work ...

  • Damn good video!!!

  • Great work!

  • Does anyone know how steep that grade is at 1:46, looks pretty steep, 2--3%?

  • Just unreal with the rock'n'roll..you'd swear they would jump the tracks.Great work.

  • thats not too bad, there was a section outside of Bellevue, OH on the NS like that but first you come across a bridge then a curve and in the curve was a road so it rolled you all over. It is actually pleasant puts you right to sleep. You get the front to back (suspension squats), then side to side (front to right and back to left then opposite) and left to right movement (right side is high then left is) it rocks you in a big circle.....lovely.

  • This vid is kick ass!

  • One of the best vids ive ever seen!!!!!!!!

  • ROCK & ROLL BABY! ROCK & ROLL!

  • Know this line well. As a kid growing up in Myrtle Beach I used to watch ACL F-7's and GP-7s rock in roll into Myrtle Beach. I was on the committee that just got our depot restored. The Carolina Southern ran packed fan trips the day of the dedication.

  • at 2:30-ish, how does it stay on the rails !!

  • Awesome video.. Love those shortlines!!!!

  • Great video. Love the 567 sounds and the rock and roll.

  • gotta love that 567 whine!

  • what about the chesapeake and albemarle railroad?

  • Wow what a crazy quilt of oddball engines! Especially that 9163 that looks like an F7.

  • Awesome great video, great job !!!! 5*****

  • I have never seen the Carolina Southern run in Conway, SC and Myrtle beach even though I go there often!

  • man i always wanted to see the Carolina Southern run!

  • great video i would like to see train videos from the pee dee river railroad that runs through Bennetsville s.c.

  • those are some pretty interesting railroad

  • I would hate to see what would happen to these old locomotives if Pres. Obama sticks his nose in the railroad industry like he has with everything else!!! Enjoy these times while they last..

  • yeah i know man its scarry im enjoying it the best i can. He has a very big nose

  • @locoman306 Exactly.

  • great vid man

but god carolina southern has notoriusly horrible track

  • The track is pretty bad, but the old, worn out suspension on those locos probably makes it seem alot worse than it is

  • Great Video, thanks for sharing. Rock and roll was right, wow, that's a white knuckle ride I bet.

    M. Cyr

  • Amazing to compare and contrast the track on the Carolina Southern with the Aberdeen, Carolina & Western. Wow.

  • How the hell is it they don't derail?! Good gracious! I slow down we we get rocking like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video, it's nice to see some Carolina Shortlines Action. Thanks for posting!
