Hahaha! I used to work at Build a Bear and I had different "heart ceremonies" for different people. If there was an older person (like yourself) without a kid, it was just something quick like "Rub it on your heart, give it a kiss aaaand we're good!" Sounds like you just had someone who took their job really seriously. Lame :P

Since my sister and I were 5 we have collected 14 build-a-bears. Our last one was at a surprise bday party of my best friend [it was supposed to be a 'reminiscent' party - going back to the old days] and I literally told the lady to skip the crap and stuff the bear. -_-

oh god i had the same experience! They didn't dumb it down AT ALL. They made my friend and I do everything from the wishing on the heart to getting the bear a birth certificate. By the end i wanted to die! very good rendition of the horror of build a bear.

We made a 'rockstar' bear for my nephew and the guy we had made me kiss and pat the fricking heart 73534789237 times and then I had to do a bunch of stuff like air guitar, the rock on symbol with my hand while jumping up and down etc. after ten minutes I was like "dude! I WILL go to toys-r-us if you don't cut this crap" I think that surprised his quite a bit. lol

It's not the crazy lady you had. It's actually their policy to treat every customer the same (meaning like a child). That's why if somebody wants a gift from Build-A-Bear, I order online. You don't even have to stuff the bear yourself. It's wonderful.

The employee probably didn't have to do that with you since it wasn't for you. But I remember when I was little going to build-a-bear and being really excited when they told me to do that. I thought it was really important and special to give the bear a heart.

When I said "no" to barking at my heart (I picked out the wolf), the man at the counter said I couldn't keep my bear. In retrospect, he might have possibly been joking, but I said "fine" and walked out the store. :P
I know exactly what you mean with build a Bear Because Ashil and I Built a bear for her Birthday and we had the craziest lady in the world who was way to excited about her job telling ashil to do all those random things with the heart and I am just like in the background like cracking up because the things the girl said to do were so childish and Ashil was like giving her the look of like are you really making me do this?. haha loves the video!

Yeahh. Build-A-Bear always makes you do the dumb stuff, even if youre clearly not a child. Thats why I never go in there. I dont want to be some weird teenager spinning in circles. I have some dignity left! XD

OMG! LMAO! It's sooooo true! I think one of the requirements to be allowed to work at build-a-bear is that you have to be like that! Thanks for making this totally hilarious video! I hope you are planning on making more like this one... considering the time of year it is... perhaps one about the people who work in the mall at the Santa booth taking pictures. Think about it. Lol, I love wigs! We have over a dozen just from Halloween stuff, but when I have a job I'll buy my own. WIG COLLECTION, WOO!
I built a bear when I was... around 12, I think? It was really weird. They made me do that stuff and I looked at them in that snotty 12 year old way and said, "Um... No. Please inflate my bear with stuffing, kthxbye."

omg, lol. My boyfriend and i went to a build a bear store this past weekend and bought one at random impulse. i literally could not stop laughing when the employee made us do the whole heart thing, but it was kind of cool that she told us to put 2 hearts in it. we're not openly out there, (but she so new) and i though it was cool that she did that.

The employee probably didn't have to do that with you since it wasn't for you. But I remember when I was little going to build-a-bear and being really excited when they told me to do that. I thought it was really important and special to give the bear a heart.

Oh my god, I hate how they make you do that at build a bear. It's SO annoying. I got a cowboy bear for my dad (he's an actor, he was playing a cowboy at the time) once, and they were like 'now kiss your heart and give it love!' and i was like 'seriously?' It was so messed up.

I applied at Build-A-Bear and it was the weirdest interview ever. It was this group thing and they made you play games and dance around and "make a new friend." But you didn't get to keep your "new friend." What the fuck?

no, when you go to build a bear thats how it is, the employees always make you do that. it wasn't just her :)
i told my mom for years i wanted one so she took me last fall and i was so embarrassed.
they made me spin and hop and all that stuff. and I'm sixteen, and all the other kids and mom's looked at me like i was a freak. it was so embarrassing.

When I said "no" to barking at my heart (I picked out the wolf), the man at the counter said I couldn't keep my bear. In retrospect, he might have possibly been joking, but I said "fine" and walked out the store. :P
