  • BEST MUSIC I have heard in a long while. BRAVO!!!

    Greetings from the Nethterlands,

    Ali

  • I heard this since 44 years ago at less as Iabant Iskandaria ... maybe the origin is uncertain, a legacy of all that ethnics folk music mixed during Ottoman Empire.

    Nice version.

  • I also heard this about Scottish song

Also in Bosnia we have two songs with same melody

  • According to another legend, this song was evolved into its present form from the Scottish tunes played by the Scottish soldiers happenned to be in Istanbul during the Crimean War.

  • Ah, also I've heard that in Syria they also have a version of Katibim!

  • Hi! I'm from Bulgaria and we also have a verision of this song (very old one btw). I've heard it also in Serbian, Kosovo version, Macedonian, Albanian, Lebanon.. The Greek version as well. Turkish and Albanians use it also as a marching war song (quite freaky)!!!

  • Hi Fellas,

    quick question!!

is this song was for the movie "Katip" or even before??

  • This song is much more older than the movie "Katip".But original song is a little bit different than this one and i think the original one is better.

  • You play so beautifully, I really liked it. When I was in primary school we danced with this song, holding our umbrellas and throwing our napkins Also now I'm a student in Üsküdar ..... Üsküdara gider iken( while I was going to Üsküdar)..... I also love the funny and sometimes a bit naughty versions of this song :))))))) It carries the essence of İstanbul

  • Great!!!! Thank you!!!

Maybe you would like to hear Serbian version by Beogradska calgija on youtube?

  • super

  • It has been said that the origins of the melody are either Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Greek, Iranian, Scottish, Sephardic (Ladino), Serbian or Turkish or that the song was brought by the Crusaders. Take a look at our website in order to learn more.

  • These guys rock!

  • what a song.. penetrates to your soul.. all is gone.. but the memories stayed back.. people living in old ottoman empire lands thinks that it is theirs.. but this is an istanbul song..

  • Old OTTOMAN song.. so known all in the old empire region.. today it is legend.. tells about istanbul.. and love of katibim..

  • This might be an ottman song but only Greek and Armenian muscians can play it this way!

    Bravo Costa and Mike!!!

  • @Tomzara Apparently the origin of this song is a big mystery.
