  • Some things are best left alone !!!

  • Pure shite... original is epic. This is modern days muck. Typical reason of how dance died

  • whats with the pathetic advert?????

  • i think this is great, and so is the origional

  • total shit. Why mess with one of the greatest tunes of all time??

  • Can't make perfection better!

    Good try

  • Nope ruined it sorry ;/

  • Sorry, not a patch on the original. I remember paying £45 quid for the white label from Jumbo in Leeds way back in 1994. I wouldn't pay 45p for this shite!

  • pish. could have been worse tho. a lot worse. however, best leaving these tunes untouched.

  • Ravers forgive them, for they know not what they do!

Some things are best left untouched .......

  • It's not that bad at all...... could be better, but not bad.

  • this is the 7th heaven remix

  • fking dreadful - i can understand this getting a remix - but why do it in a cheese fest kinda way?? look in the play list to the right, play the original 1990 version then weep for this abomination...... seriously it would have been better getting a dubstep or drum n bass remix rather than this.... shame on you Asha

  • not as good as the original .....which can be said for 99% of remixed old tunes that were floorfillers in their time !!

  • I like the breakdown bit at 2:09, but as for the rest, it is just a cheesy beat slapped over the top of the original, could have been a lot better.

  • sh*t tune with an all time classic piano riff over the top - should have been left well alone.. or at least put the effort in and be creative!

  • Doesn't work for me, the original will always be the best. You can't create a modern remix of a track like this, it's from a different era.

It's the musical equivalent of someone trying to remake Star Wars.

  • tune love it !

  • I also prefer the original, but Im just glad they havnt completely wrecked the tune.

Theyve obviously got to change it slightly, you cant just re release a 90's tune without doing something to it..

could be a LOT worse chaps :)

  • PS

anyone know where I can download this video, I need it hi quality like an mp4 or mpeg2, thanks..

  • could have been worse they could have had ndubz or the blackoutcrew singing!!

  • They shouldn't even touch the classics as as all your left with if you do is a poor imitation.

  • ahhh! my ears!!! what a loada crap...

  • The simple fact is this version should NEVER HAVE BEEN MADE.

The original 1990 version with Janis Joplin's vocals is an undisputed Italian piano house classic and is a legendary and iconic track..

The people that put this crap together should be shot. Some tunes should never be touched, and this is one of them.

  • Mate I appreciate your concern for great classic's however they have not remixed it, only re-sample it with modern tech.... I love to hear it, Rock On and peace.... Some things never change but great things are always brought back and never forgotten.

  • Jonny, it is a new version of an old song. Call it what you will, but it is a remix. Plain and simple.

  • Ok a remix,

So any old track digtaly remasterd or resampled is a remix. If they had changed the beat that would have updet me but its not the case.. Cheers

  • totally correct, this is has lost all its charm the original has !!!!!

  • Original is one of the best tracks i have ever laid my ears on, i have been listenin to it for 15-20 years solid and never get sick of it. It gets on me tits when tunes like this remix and like Brothers & Sisters by 2funky2 get released!! they just dont get anywhere near.......

  • Ohh, and Dazzamack is absolutely spot on with everything he said...It was sampled from Janis Joplin and the name ASHA was the producers name!

  • You will never get any better than the original..I must of listened to this tune 1000's of times now since I heard it for the first time in about 1995 and I never get tired of hearing it...One tune that when I first heard it I loved it and had to get the name of it straight away!

I have the original on 12" and when dropped in clubs it always goes down a storm, even 15 years later!!!

  • okeay who is friendly to send me this mix please help:D

  • If it aint broke don't fix it springs to mind.

they've ripped the soul out of it and put a shiny new wrapper on it.

they should have just re-released the original, with a few small production tweaks at most.

  • It is one of those massive songs that deserves to be high in the charts. I hope they put the original version on the single release as mine is crackling like mad now its been played that much since 1990 on the old 12" plastic.

  • Yes .... on the new release there is the original primitive version of 1991.

  • Love the original...but this sounds very similar just given an up to date kick drum..and beefed up for 2009...not much of a remix in my opinion...I guess they wanted to keep all the original elements.

  • Man im 17 but the original is 10000000 times better. Its just vintage.

  • yeah man but ye gotta get wit the times all the fine bitches be lovin this shit ou on the dance floor

  • producers make 'the times'. you think when girls were dancing to frank sinatra they were thinking 'whens it going to kick in? and wheres the x in this shthole?'. the girls will dance to the sound of a man farting into a bucket of jelly if everyone else is into it. re-release the original!!!

  • Originals better :(

  • Shite!!!!!!! Not a scratch on the original!

  • This is the remix of the orinal mate ;-). If you buy the release there's also the original .

  • Got the original, this is just a cheesy remix attempt, poor.

  • I agree with you mate

  • ArdkoR92, whatever they want to call it now, which you are saying it is called Ball & Chain, the original in 1990 was never called ball & chain, it was called JJ Tribute (Janis Joplin Tribute). Obviously, due the young generations knowing very little about music history, they have decided that kids wouldnt know who Janis Joplin is or was, and decided to change the name to something kids would understand.

  • I know the original wasn't called ball & chain, I have that also :p

And to be quite honest I didn't have a clue who Janis Joplin was when I was raving to the original back in the day :D

  • You sir, are spot on

  • This song is not called Ball & Chain, like many are claiming. ASHA called the song in 1990 "JJ Tribute" A Tribute to Janis Joplin. The sample is from Janis Joplin's Ball & Chain. The Original LP Sleeve had the name ASHA in pink with a picture of a lady's head with the words 'JJ Tribute'.. NO 'BALL & CHAIN' ANYWHERE TO BE SEEN.. The best mix is the 1990 Primitive Mix in my opinion. I didnt mind Rob Tisserra's & Dream Frequency's '94 mix & '95's Euro Mix wasn't bad. This version's a bit cheesy

  • Wow! You really know all the story. Are you a dj or a producer? I definitely agree about Primitive Mix.

  • No MartinBaio, definitely not a DJ (DJ'd at few private parties when i was young tho) I'm not a Producer either, I would call myself a Full-Time Music Collector, particularly Old Skool Dance & Hip Hop. Anyhow, listening to this post inspired me to go and listen to the original Primitive Mix, and it definitely puts New Skool dance to shame.

  • It is called ball & chain. I have the 12" on ego label & it clearly says A.S.H.A. Ball and Chain [J.J. Tribute]

  • fx0385 - I bet your about 15 aren't you

pedro - your spot on mate - original is miles better.

At least it will get an airing to the new generation but woe betide any little chav who says "have you heard this NEW choon"

  • This song makes me cry. The happiest song I have ever heard in my Life. <3JT<3

  • This is called "Ball & Chain (J.J. Tribute)" btw, if you someone is looking to buy it.

I prefer the Glenn Morrison & Bruce Aisher mix. It's not bad, but the original is still the best.

  • No it isn't - the song that that the lyrics were sample from was called Ball & Chain by Jannis Joplin and is TOTALLY different to JJ Tribute.

This is just a remix of ASHA's JJ Tribute.

I don't care how many negative comments I get this mix is wank and will never better the original 90's version.

They did it to Brother and Sisters years ago - I'm surprised it took them this long to rape this tune.

If they couln't do a good job of remixing this they should have left it alone.

    RAPE RAPE RAPE !

  • no it really is called ball & chain :)

google: asha ball & chain, if you don't believe me.

I have the original jj tribute on my page btw. At least this version has the original jj samples unlike the remixes that came out in 95, they were just terrible.

  • Sorry fella - thought you were reffering to the original...

    I stand corrected.

    Still prefer the original.

The only "remix" of sorts I have heard previously was "Tribute to ASHA" by Pianoman (AKA James Sammon) - TBH it's that long since I heard it I can't remember if it was pure wenslydale or not...

  • you mean paedo...see a cock!

  • no its not ok...cock!

  • your a cock! what sorta name is pedro??? more like pedo lol!!!

  • nothing is better than the original

  • shut ya face pedro, this version is much betta ok!

  • i like this version better than the original!!! i cant find it anywhere though.

  • You can buy it on Beatport. There's also a CDs. Just search.

  • I Love This Song!

  • incredible song!

  • Amazing track!!! Love piano vocal house!

  • This song is massive!!! Pychedelic video :-)
