  • Are you really criticism on English and Asl? That don't matter who use sign use English or ASL. No one perfect ok. If they want to learn then so be it. I did not like criticism period. I did sign both!

  • @Ladyheart832 Did you really watch the whole video and understand what I said or am trying to say there? Your response doesnt seem to reflect that. Did I really criticize ASL and English? Nope. I said when we are 'GOOD+ENOUGH" with "signed English", we are DISHONORING the two American organic, natural, languages. I also said, it's not appropriate to insult, belittle, etc. anybody who doesn't have adequate skills in a language but we need to have high academic standards. Watch video again.

  • @ASLElla Now I know what you mean. dishonoring english and asl are different sign. My bad. I thought that not Honor for english and asl.

  • @Ladyheart832 Sighs... Here we go... You're perfect an example part of the problem in the system... You're missing the point here and Ella never claims that we have to be perfect but it is not the point here. In the reality, there are about over 90% in the system are dishonoring English and ASL. Don't believe me? Go check out the Deaf school's mission & vision and do your homework then you'll see the certain point.

  • Every deaf person/CODA that I know initializes...

  • @Frubahboi And your point is?

  • yes you are right stroy they are slow to laern everything i know you are smile keeping to teach them learn to chrager to right everything to ed to humans and god know you good show to them laern ed everything aout futher live and they to laern talk to right company to not chaet and l;ie blame human tyhey need to true stroy everything company human no matter to haering or deaf they are both to laern to spilling and asl too haering are lazy move arm and finger ha .

  • @ToddJMorrison those deaf educators that cant understand it are in most need of understanding this video, so they can light a fire under their butts and improve their ASL!

I don't understand it all completely, but I'm still working on my ASL (after being taught oral methods & isolated from other deaf children as a child & a minor). each time i come back I get more of it...

  • "...hearing people who work in the deaf community definitely need to see this."

Hearing people who work in the deaf community should be able to understand ASL! Too often, many of them don't. If, as a hearing person, you work with deaf people, then you had better darn well learn ASL. No, we aren't going to be perfect at it because it's our second language, but many people don't even try. It's very sad, because in my experience Deaf people are always so gracious about helping us. Thanks.

  • Right O! Thanks, Ella.. :)

You got her good, toddMorrison :)

  • As always, you hit this outta the ballpark! SEE is not even English!!! Let's stop abusing both ASL and English, and aim for the best possible language models!

  • you are good speech and clear see your ASL. thank you :D

  • Ohhh shit... What s grade for my ASL? Eh Wow good lesson for me to think and digest over the holidays. Thanks for your inputs!

  • Ella,

You need to caption this vlog -- I know you are using ASL but hearing people who work in the deaf community definitely need to see this. How do we deal with some hearing people who think that they have the right to use the sign for specific things even though they have been given constructive criticism not to use that sign.

  • @deafmommy Hearing people who work in the deaf community need to learn ASL. Period.

  • @deafmommy i can understand when people sign in asl, but i cannot do so myself...i wish i had someone who was deaf to video chat on skype with or something to teach me but sadly my teacher is concerned w hand shapes and facial exp. which is understandable but the last thing i wanna do it be disrespectful because i dont agree with how hearing people treat the deaf community. likewise, i dnt want to be another "hearing person", any advice where to go/practice?

  • I loved this vlog. SEE, PSE and other forms of pseudolanguage don't respect both ASL and English.

Languages are related with a culture and people who use it everyday.

I have this discussion sometimes about Spanglish, it's not real Spanish and it's not real English and it doesn't cherish the legacy of either English or Spanish cultures and heritage.

ASL is the natural language of Deaf people in the States in the same way French is to France, Chinese to China or LSA is to Deaf in Argentina.

  • @InterpreterALE I know my response is long long overdue, but thanks for what you shared here.

  • @ASLElla Never too late ;)

  • Wow, I've realized something about SEE and how it affects our use of written English and ASL. You make me want to make a vlog of my experiences throughout my life using SEE. Good topic!! Glad you brought it up! :o)

  • @coffeedeafgirl My long overdue response here, but want to check if you ever did make a vlog about your experiences using SEE.

  • Awesome vlog! My Deaf son did watched LSmae's vlog after we were done raking leaves. He nodded his head "See I told you Mom!" He do not want to see my money waste on tax!

  • Thank you so much , Ella :) That s the answer.

  • Excellent vlog!!!!! I agree with u 1000%!!!! I say that's all!! Finally!!! smile my sister!

  • Good Point and good VLog! That is what I have been saying for years!!!!! I can talk but when I use asl there is no way I can talk. ASL is a language of it's own. English is a language of its own. You are right that model communication of any kind is an insult to both english and asl!! I have said it long time ago and now you said it you the first person that I have seen saying that.

  • Anyone who thinks signing in English order is okay, should think about how writing English is ASL, Spanish, French, or any other word order would be immediately corrected and viewed as unacceptable, and "not English." Why is it seen as acceptable to mess with ASL grammar? It shouldn't be seen as acceptable. ASL is its own language with its own grammar. Period.

  • In ESL you sign “I have two sisters”, I would make a sign for each words. In ASL you would sign “two” and “sister” and then point to myself so you‘re signing “two sisters, me.” ESL is the right language to use and makes sense. When I was little I always had a hard time signing with a few kids who used the ASL, majority of them never made sense. When the ASL users write an essay they never made sense on what they‘re writing and trying to say because of the ASL, our teacher had to correct them.

  • @Corvettes66 FYI, "ESL" is generally used to refer to "English as Second Language" pedagogy, not English Sign Language. In fact, formally, there's no such thing as English Sign Language. In England, they use British Sign Language (BSL). Did you watch the video in full? Ill be happy to clarify any parts of the video to make sure we are on the same page.

  • @ASLElla Apparently you have never heard of ESL! OMG! You have to be kidding right?! It's not British accent! LOL!...
