  • My first polysynth and the the most underrated analogue out there. Got two now with Organix upgrades (PG200 + MIDI +++) Now looking for a third one to put a Kiwi upgrade on. Look up Kiwi JX3P - they've done some mad wizardry! If you're looking for your first proper analogue, this is it. Not hard to program without the PG-200, unlike the 8P. Top tip - if you find you can't get good bass patches, make sure the HPF is turned down. Some numptys think this thing can't do bass. Trust me - it can.

  • I've seen all of your videos, and I must say youre an amazing programmer! I'm posting on this particular video (jx3p) because this video actually inspired me to get a JX3P (basically as soon as I heard the Terminator patch). My question for you is can you please tell me what setting you used to create the sound of the terminator patch? I think you were so dead spot on that it was haunting :) if you can share the info it would be great, if no then keep making dope videos! - *cheers*

  • can you do chord vibrato with this?

  • Comment removed

  • can you transpose a full phrase or arpeggio via just by pressing one keyboard key with this synth?

  • @arnieslove yes.. once a sequence has been entered, holding the transpose button and pressing a single key on the keyboard will transpose it up to that key. you can also latch a chord and then transpose it using the same functionality.. very cool feature.

  • @shayeasy wow thanks a lot! by the way another question comes to me. I've heard the jx3p midi is not very good because it was one of the first midi rolands...do you know if sequences and transposings of the sequence can be midi exported (out) to ohter devices?

  • @arnieslove the MIDI is primitive in that it only sends/receives note data, not parameter changes. the sequencer is actually disabled when you switch to MIDI mode, so you unfortunately can't send sequencer notes out as MIDI. you can however trigger the sequencer steps with a gate or trigger out to sync it with a DAW or other instruments, which is just as useful IMO.. you can always just replicate the same sequence in MIDI.

  • @shayeasy thanks that's very kind of you. I somehow imagined that...very good synth anyway.,I guess you don't have that problem with a jx8p. I own an OB12 and I'm not completely happy neither with the sound nor the sequencer/transposer...

  • congradulations this is really good project. I have olso a rolan jx 3p ... my uncle gave me for a gift once upon a time . But it was very down. I want to a clean rolan jx 3p how can i find do you know a connect for to buy.?

  • Can DCO pitch be modulated by envelope? I thought he did that at 3:21 seconds. thnx in advance

  • @KennaOkoye envelope modulation on 01:25 - 01:28

  • @theHackerOfMayhem thank you :)

  • @KennaOkoye You welcome bro... music is a pleasure ;)

  • I'm impressed. You can make a JX-3P sound good.

  • @FOCtv people who think it's a thin or poor sounding synth haven't ventured past the presets or don't know how to properly program. it's capable of some massive sounds that most would have a hard time differentiating from a jupiter 8.

  • Great video! What about terminator patch? Is it standard one or you program it?

  • :D at 05:33 terminator...

  • Will you come over and program my synth for me? Damn you make it sound amazing!

  • i like your shoes, they make me hard

  • Nah I'm not buying it... He's demonstrated many other synths without any knobs, or sliders, the JX-8P and others... This one is simply not a demo of the synth itself, he just loves knobs :) lol

  • I normally like your videos, but this one is a complete waste of time, you've demoing the PG-200 controller instead..

  • @MrKnnknn everybody says without PG, this synth is hard to use - btw JX 3p sounds perfect.

  • @MrKnnknn ....you are so lost just shhhh

  • Anybody else hear the Terminator 2 theme song?

  • Yes. Your videos are impossibly better.

  • this Is Pure Wc Olo Garb - hail Jexus!

  • Thanks for the great Demo. Nice sounds and playing vibe.

Suddenly I want one of these!

  • OMG "MODERN ELECTRO" ULTRA LOOOLZ HERE

  • hi - how can i do the back up? thanks

  • 2:18 wow !!!

  • @MyBrownclown haha i have that disk.

  • I just recently got one of these. When I got it , I could switch through the A and B channel sounds just fine, but now I can't. I think I pushed a wrong button or something. Do you know how to reverse this? Thanks, man. great demo, by the way.

  • I still think it's sounds Awsome Modern or Not. Cry babies

  • "modern electro" hahaha

  • @MyBrownclown most praise you hear for the JX-3P is for its undeniably vintage sound, so it's probably not the first choice if you're going for "modern" sounds, but it IS capable of such sounds if programmed and EQ'd correctly (the sequencer is great for trancey gated pads). it's strength is definitely adding vintage character to tracks, and it works beautifully alongside more modern synths like the virus.

  • @MyBrownclown if you want to make modern electro, use softsynths, if you want to make 80s music, get one of these ;)

  • @06.10 - absolutely beautiful sequence and when the lower chords come in - stunning! Your whole video Jexus is also the reason why I bought a JX3P, it was delivered last week :-) Thanks for the inspiration!

  • @1986uno45s The upgrade allows simultaneous use of a PG-200 and MIDI at the same time but the new additions (2nd LFO, 2nd envelope, portamento, etc) aren't accessible with the PG-200. You would have to use the regular parameter/sense slider method or Kiwi's new Patch Editor box (can be used on any Roland synth that needed a programmer and some others like the Matrix 1000)

  • @robocelot Thanks for the information! Would something like the Behringer BCR2000 also work with the new additions? Oh, and I took delivery of my JX3P last week :-) Now I will be saving up for the Kiwi upgrade chip!

  • @1986uno45s The BCR2000 should work, as would a Kenton Control Freak or any other box that can send MIDI CC's. Of course you'll have to manually program them. :-)

  • hey everybody do you know there' s an amazing JX3P Upgrade kit avaible at Kiwitechnics . gives all the new functions that new synth have ( portamento , 2 nd LFO , better enveloppes, arpeggio , trancegate , full sysex and MIDI CC control .. . and so on

every JX-3P owner should definitely check for it .

  • @DOPEDOGTOPDOG Looks like a very good upgrade. Does it allow simultaneous control of the parameters AND midi sequencing in real time? I'm very, very tempted to get a a JX3P on the strength of this demo and what I've seen on the Kiwi site.

  • i like 4:15. epic

  • awesome

  • 5:33 in the video alway puts you in tears in a certain moive at the end when the govenor of CA he dies.

  • @TheDefconsd1 terminator!!!!!!!! tear jerker

  • I have recently acquired a Roland JX3P to accompany my JX8P and TR707, however I am finding the lack of THRU port to be an issue.

I've read that the MIDI OUT transmits the same info as the THRU, but I can't seem to get anything working, with either the TR707 or the JX3P at the end of the 'chain'.

    Is this possible?

  • @Stakker Hey, im pretty noobish about most of this but i too use a 707 so i thought i could help. have you set the sync mode to midi sync on the 707. hold shift and push sync mode until it reads "S-n". this will slave the 707 to the midi clock. i dont have a jx3p or jx8p, but i am using the midi out from my bass synth so the setup should work the same.

  • @harbl666 yeah, the problem with that is that i am using a PC as the midi controller, so I want to have the jX8, jx3 and tr707 all on the same chain. Looks like I'm going to have to use a MIDI splitter.

  • @Stakker

    buy a "thrubox" for 15euro or 20US

  • Awesome!

  • I like 4:21 ahaha. Very cool synth, thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks! in the end you've convinced me! I bought a JX-3P although aveo already a JX-8P with programmer, a Korg MS-20, an Arp Odyssey (congratulations for the other video) a Chroma Polaris, a Sequential Circuits Multitrack and other less interesting... You have a lot of style and your videos are funny!

  • @Mazzipunk same here!

  • I've got the synth keyboard but no controller!

  • Okay, so I just purchased one of these off of ebay, and I was using a midi sequencer in order to sequence it (korg ea-1). Anyways, I held the "keyboard" button and started pressing different keys, and it started selecting different presets, would the default midi layout be able to do this, or was this a seperate midi addition?

  • Brillliant

  • @ObsoleteSystems certain things cant be faked.....not properly at least......not yet

  • hey wut kinda keyboard is that? thx

  • @SawfulSawyer

It's a Casio home keyboard with vibrating rubber dicks glued all over it.

  • @VectronMusic o kewl. do u make dem custom? if so how much? cud u custom 1 5 me?

  • @SawfulSawyer

Yeah man. I got like 5 boxes of dicks so I could like cover it in them for $100.

  • gloire a toi mec ton est trop fort

  • @ObsoleteSystems it's already installed on my PC, yes. but I just need to learn how to use it. thanks, if this program is SO good, I'll have to try it.

  • do you film it all on VHS? if no, how did you make an impression of that?

  • you really know your way around these bad-boys huh?

LOVE how you Filmed everything accurately in true analog looking format...you know why you made it look so beat up!

the gritty film and the saturated synth signals really compliment eachother.

    really great work!

  • The song at 5:30 is the theme from Teminator I think.

  • # Retro.... :))

  • This is a GREAT synth, the presets give a decent idea of what it can do, but it is SOOOO much better than that, you guys. It'll sound like a Juno. It is a Juno without the cost for buying new parts every year as far as I'm concerned. VERY underrated. VERY VERY cool and relevant synth today. I got an improved MIDI kit for it, too!

  • your my hero....!!!

  • nice...

    max polyphony?

  • I'm selling a JX.-3P + PG200 just PM me.

  • 1:55 what song is that ? it's great !

  • i ask the same!!!

  • The source sound reminds me of the Miami Vice theme bass line.. Different arpeggio but very similar sound..

  • The tune at 1:30...I'm addicted. That should be a full song!

  • I bought one of these bad boys in a secound hand shop and carried it home to the train. They ARE heavier than they look!

  • @infesticon.. I have JX-3P. I bought it at a used shop and carried it out by hand, walking through the rain all the way home. I think JX-3P is light and pretty tough. I think the heaviest Roland keyboard is the Jupiter-4, which I bought but could not carry out the store so I had it shipped instead. JP-4 weighs a ton compared to JX-3P.

  • @speedtribejp I actully like better than the Juno not that I can afford any of those. But i think the jx 3p sounds meaner. It's like the junos are for nice house music and the jx 3p is for nasty techno.

  • @infesticon Yeah me to I think it is better than the 60 & 106 as it was sold as a preset synth it got little interest at the time but can produce fantastic basses and sci-fi sfx, best of the budget roland poly synth's by a mile

  • 1:55 ever heard of metronomy?

  • @0616027 Record on audacity, Mono, at about 32000, and that should do it

  • @blumonkeyboy Also, upload to youtube. Youtube's audio quality is really bad (WC even has a video up with a waveform comparison). Plus, listen to a song where there is a filter up from low frequencies (only one I can think of now is Around the World by Daft Punk, and the part is at the beginning), it completely distorts the audio.

  • @whizkid515 this is true.

  • how do you record this audio? theres a lo-fi feel that sounds seriously authentic...

  • 4:57 8)

  • @nvanzoeren

Yes!!! that is the The TUNE!!!! LOL *0s movie good times.the music in the backround.

  • @nvanzoeren

Yes!!! that is the The TUNE!!!! LOL 80s movie good times.the music in the backround.

  • 01:34... this sound make me very happy/angry!! :P

  • This demo is Awesome *w*

  • 5:35 terminator hahaha tun tun, tun tutun... tu tun, tun tutun

  • What is that strange keyboard on the floor behind you?

  • I bought my JX-3P along with the PG-200 back in 1984.

Unfortunately it doesn't support "attack-sensitivity" ( Actually I don't know the exact english expression for this. :P )

Another feature that isn't implemented well is the sequencer bpm -setting which isn't programmed but controlled by an analog slider. It's however possible to add a "Triq -input" from an external source.

It's in great condition so if any of you guys wants to buy this vintage synth I'll put it up on ebay. :)

  • Where are you from?

  • @AlgusDark

    Hi , I'm from Silkeborg - Denmark - Scandinavia - Europe - Earth.

I have compared my ( Roland JX-3P + PG200 ) to similar items offered on ebay and starting price will be $600 with a "buy now" at $800 plus S/H.

  • Nyahahahaha!

  • i am having strange problems with my jx 3p. When i am programming a parameter, the value stays at the "16" value unless i pull up a little on the "sens" slider. Once i let the slider back down, the value goes back to 16. Also, the pitch will bend down either way that i push the wheel. ALSO the pitch bend will work properly if i am pulling up on the "sens" slider. Any help? thanks.

  • @thediaryofjane21

    Try to clean the sliderpot

  • yo mama

  • lol this makes me want to get my dads JX-3p working again haha hopefully its not screwed :(

  • I have a problem with my JX-3p but maybe im no using it the right way when i want t record a sequence i push on the write button then i play on the the piano then when i push start/stop i just hear one only note all the time can somebody help me please

  • assuming the rate slider is in middle , is there anything plugged into the "Seq In" jack on the back panel? if not , have you got any equipment that you COULD external trigger the sequence by connecting it to that jack? ... the "seq in" jack has priority over the internal tempo.

  • No nothing is plugged in but maybe the the rate slider is broken....because I don't think the rate slider is working. But what could I connect into the seq in ?

  • I let him borrow them some of them

  • 4:45 what is tha ? I know this melody but I can't remember the title ... ^^

  • he pimps ho's and takes their money

  • @synthpathetic big disposable income

  • Anyone thinking getting just based on this video (which is one of the best around) this may want to listen to video tC4XLjr1SQQ. It still sounds good but don't expect to be getting same exact character as present throughout this video.

  • Very strong New Wave feel to it.

Fast envelopes and that dirty chorus effect.

    This synth is great fun.

  • i have one listed on e-bay right now Nov 16

  • syntezatory demos are the best of all !!!!!

  • terminator

    sick

  • porque diablos lo hiciste..?

  • If i didn't know better i'd say i was listening to a Jupiter 8. What a great synth and demo!

  • how'd you get the sound at 5:36? i've tried to with my jx-3p but cant achieve the same sound

  • JX series synths can be had quite affordably, and with the addition of the PG800, are very versatile.

  • i love this kind of sound. reminds me of the good old C64-Time

  • Such a cool synth, much more versatile than the Juno series IMO. Also like the presets and rifffs this guy plays.

  • does it have midi?

  • i have this keyboard pretty tight synth it was my dads

  • Is 4:44 thru 5:10 from somewhere? because it sounds awesome.

  • 4:44 jizzworthy

  • Comment removed

  • ive grown to like it better since i made that comment, i wish it had an arpeggiator though... or PWM

  • at 1:47 sounds just like a prodigy song.. that guy makes magic with this synth, awesome.

  • imagine he was in the prodigy.

  • lol i probably should have saved up more and got this instead of the jx-8p

  • I love the zombie commie vibe in these videos!

  • Can anyone help me out? My JX-3P trigger input isn't working properly. If i send it a trigger from my modded TR-505, it does 2 notes on the JX and occasionally skips notes and starts from the beginnings sequence and then goes out of time. Just wondering whether its cos I'm using a modded machine, or whether my JX's input is busted.

  • measure the output with a volt meter, and maybe use an oscilloscope to see what the shape of the trigger is

  • Terminator Rulezz! Nice, man! Fantastic sounds .. synth... of course)) I very like synths of 80's!

  • That sounds just like one of DEVO's synths. I got to get one.

  • Yeah, they're awesome

  • nice

    great sounds

    youre good

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

  • I really love this guy...!!!

  • can anyone tell me which tune starts at 1:54?

    great tune!

  • OMG The same tune i'm loking for...It's AMAZING!!!!

  • i have never seen terminator, but after hearing that piece, i wanna see it just 'cuz of the awesome soundtrack :D

  • The song at 6:12 (after Terminator) is cool. Is it something by another artist or just an improvisation by yourself?

  • The JX-3P I bought off ebay doesnt get here for 6 weeks!!

    This is TORTURE!

Thanks again for the video :)

  • I know exactly how you feel even though mine came in 4 business days. :p

But the sensation of anticipation melting away makes up for the wait no matter how long.

  • I can hear so many of my fav 80s bands in here.

  • Does anybody know if it is possible to set the JX-3P to Unison mode? You can do this with a Juno 106/60. I can't find anything about it on the internet and wondered if anybody have any experience with this.

  • No, but you can program something into the sequencer and play with it for 2x unison, and push the pitch wheel a bit to one side to detune it.

  • Actually you can plug the midi in to midi out and double the osc per key at the expense of polyphony....6 voices becomes 3...

  • That's clever. Unfortunately I don't have a MIDI cable. In fact, I've never seen one in my life xD. Maybe there' no such thing and it's all a big conspiracy....

  • dolt.

  • the 106 is the only one that has unison. The JX and JU-60 are before roland made a separate lookup table for the interval timers. While you can stack the voices using midi or the sequencer, the effect is nil as they can't do separate tunings for each voice.

  • cool synth! i love it ! But what is this for a cool VHS Tape look? Can you tell me this?

  • Comment removed

  • or a 606 if you cant affort an 808 ;)

  • Check out 5:00

  • Shit, to think i had a Jx-8P with a PG controller and let it go.

    Those sounds are YUM !

  • Would it be possible to post up a track listing pls? I know some but not all, would love to know the rest of the tracks. Great stuff.

  • Lexy & K. Paul - You're the one! Super!

  • Niezle niezle

  • does Jexus answer to all your questions by PM or what ??

  • do you need the pg-200 to get those sounds or is it simply a sequencer?

  • no you don't need the pg-200, but it makes it more fun and easier for sure and its much faster with the pg-200.

  • do you live in the 80s or something?

  • the synth has been made in the 80s, so what you'd expect?

  • the 80's were cooler! Especially synth-wise.

  • awsome patches :thumbs up!:

  • Did you write the music for Space Harrier II?

  • My first synth was a JX-3P, start of my $10k collection of analogues, now all is gone unfortunatly, but had may good years of playing .

  • TERMINATOR!

    i lOOOOve brad fiedel...

  • from 4.54 it's awesome/

  • Very underrated synth !!

  • I reall want to make some tunes with the sounds you create. You should really make samples. I want them dude. :-)

  • SOME GREAT PATCHES MAN ! ! !
