poor Hooker, had the 2010 goal of the year kicked on him, then in 2011 had Walker take what should of been mark of the year, at least his in the highlight reel i suppose.
I was at this game and have been to many Grand Finals/ ANZAC Day clashes and i've never seen both crowds go off quite like this. I mean people were high 5'ing, hugging complete strangers. Never seen anything like it. It was a moment in Football I will never ever forget.
Gary Lyon at 2.14 "What about LJ Hooker the poor bugger!" Classic.
The only thing that ruins this is Luke Darcy's monotone dribble. JB should have gone solo or would have been good if BT hadn't left or Rex was there instead.
Look at the Hawks players on the bench getting up (in the background) as Buddy runs in for number two... gold. Even the goal umpire is struggling to keep a straight face!
That was an amazing goal No doubt!!!! I loved how he tried that against the western Bulldogs i think it was the next week..... Thank Fuck he failed!!!! a loss is bad enough but a goal like that would be a slap in the face to a team who is in the top 4
@datswotimtknbout i am not saying it didn't deserve to be goal of the year, it may have, thouigh i reckon it should have beaten for goal of the week by Richmond's Shane Edwards. I just believe a lot of people have some crazy man love for Buddy and everything he does gets pumped up beyond belief. I have seen countless better goals.
@damianrwhite But you've never seen someone 6 feet 5 do it twice in four minutes.
Once is great, twice is amazing. I was there that night and it was breathtaking. I suspect you are being deliberately provocative. Love your taste in music though. I love Tom Waits almost as much as I love Buddy!!!
@haggspah i'm judging it as a stand alone goal as it should be judged. I've spoken to quite a few people who were there that night and they all say it was one of the greatest goals they have ever seen but personally i have seen countless better goals. Amazing effort for a bloke of his size but he was running away from a blonk and basically had nobody between him and the goal, great goal, nothing more nothing less.
@damianrwhite Mate, don't just look at the goal itself but also in the manner it was kicked, in a game that was on the line, within minutes of kicking another momentum swinging goal. They're not only the goals of the year but it's one of the greatest performances by an individual I have ever seen. One man who took his whole team under his wing and won a game off his own boot. Also, see 2007 Elimination final for same sort of feats. They are once in a generation players.
@jwatsontas if you are judging it as a stand alone goal, which goals of the week, year etc are, it cannot be judged as part of a sequence. Buddy is a very handy goal sneak and and extraordinary athlete. Not in the best 150 players i have seen though.
@thescabman champ, if he's not a handy goal sneak then what exactly is he? he struggles to mark the ball (even against opponents half his size) and most of his goals are opportunistic goalsneak type goals.
@damianrwhite It's pretty obvious he's a Key Forward. An All Australian one at that. And if you honestly think he kicks 'most of his goals' opportunistically, you need to pay more attention.
@thescabman the reason that he was selected at CHF in AA team is because he is tall and the genuine centre half forwards missed too many games through injury. He is a all tall flanker who needs a key forward next to him to perform at his best.
@damianrwhite The reason he was selected at CHF is because he's one of the best players in the comp. It's that simple. It has nothing to do with other players, it has to do with Buddy.
The comment about needing a key forward next to him is just silly. He's one of the best 'one out' forwards in the league, which is why so many teams chose to zone off other forwards just to get two and three opponents around him when he's deep in the arc.
Gives me chills :)

@damianrwhite "buddy's a handy goal sneak", yeah and the Beatles wrote a couple of lucky hits.
The key to trolling is not putting too much bait on the line.

@thescabman gotta love a "one-out" forward who can't take a contested mark to save his life. Handy flanker though.
