  • you hate Computers? well i dont! LOL.

  • You thought that was bad? Well, my second laptop, I was going to install 98 on it, then the OS disc works then it asks me if I want to do something for the hard drive and I say yes, then it restarts and asks me for my system disc and press a key. I do that and it repeats the comment again. So I have 2 words to say... COMPUTERS SUCK!

  • Well, be thankful your computer is an XP. I've used Vista, and it sucks! To me, Vista's so bad that I actually prefer Windows 95 more than Vista.

  • that sucks 4 ur computer does not work i kno the feelin wat im goin through with my computers

  • I know how you feel. I just bought a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 (i think it's the same one as you use) and i get a 3 second delay which means it's impossible to play games due to the MPEG decoder or something... so i check Hauppauge FAQ and it says i need to edit a file to prevent the delay... but guess what... it doesn't work. I've tried older drivers and software and had no luck. :(

  • Yeah, I have to split my games between my TV and my computer to play and record games. It sucks, but it works.

  • Computers don't make mistakes, users do.

Do it right and it will work, unless the hardware or software itself sucks.

Sorry to be rude, but when you give up on pc gaming because you can't get stuff to work is pretty pathetic.

I've never had a single problem in all the years I've used computers, and all the problem's I've diagnosed working in IT departments that wasn't caused by a simple mistake by a human, or defective hardware.

Now you play shooters on consoles. Sad, just sad.

  • When I plug something in, it should work like it says it does. When I buy a capture card, I should be able to plug anything with a/v cables into it and have it work the same. It doesn't work with ONLY the Sega Genesis. All models, RF or A/V cables. And I get shit all from support. That's bullshit.

And as I said, I have boxes of PC games that just don't work anymore. Tons of my favorite games I'll never be able to play accurately again. That's not fucking right.

  • I guess that's defective hardware, then. I hate when that kinda stuff happens too.. Sorry about my post, I wasn't feeling good last night and it affected everything I wrote it seems. :P If it means anything, you know you could pick up an old dos pc for next to nothing on ebay ^^

  • Hehehehe... I was feeling especially nasty last night too. No hard feelings. ;)

  • Huh. I agree. But if you hate computers, why are you using one right now?

  • Dunno, I guess I like them just enough to use them for the basic functions, like the internet and YouTube.

As for games and tweaking, my puter days are over. If I can't plug it in and have it work right away, it's not worth my time.

  • Know the feeling mate.

  • Is the Snes/PSX sync problem a res issue? are Snes/PSX games at 320 x 240? or 720 x 480/576? Thought it may help pin the prob. Are you using a PSX or a PS2 for PSX games? I'm not sure if the PS2 upscales (probably not) but try using the PS2 for PSX Doom, it might just work.

  • Tried both a PS2 and a PSX same thing. I took it back anyways, and I'm using my old capture card.

  • Update: The first few days I was recording from the XBox 360. Recorded just fine. Just tried it again, no syncing problems.

But the SNES and PSX so far (so older game systems maybe) have syncing errors. I'll be looking farther into this. I might be returning this thing for a different capture device.

  • As for the webcam, still not sure about why syncing problems happen.

  • How the videos get out of synch? Does it happen right at the start, or it gradually gets out of synch? In the second case, there's a way to correct that using VirtualDub.

And yes, my father (who used to be a computer technician) told me that "there's only one thing we can be sure about computers: they'll crash".

How old is your computer? Maybe your disc burner is malfunctioning and need a replacement.

  • It gradually goes out of sync. I know I can use Virtualdub to fix it, though I feel that defeats the purpose. This is a simple device, you should just be able to plug it in and press record. A VCR can do it, why can't a piece of PC hardware do it?

Sorry if I sound perturbed, but Pinnacle emailed me back saying that I should check to see that I have it set to NTSC and not PAL. Ugh.

Looks like I might be taking this thing back next week. My old one at least recorded almost everything right.

  • About the burner, I have 5 burners in my house, and I've tried every one. Same data errors. Tried different source drives, and different burning programs. Even went as far as to wipe the Windows clean and reinstall it. :|

  • Then maybe it's a problem with the data itself. What kind of data are you trying to burn?

  • LOTS of different stuff, MP3s, videos, games, text files, etc, etc. Basically backup of the stuff I make, old programs, and stuff I download.

It's a different place and a different file everytime I burn something.

  • Did you tried to burn like: one CD contains MP3s, another one contains text files, etc.

This would allow you to pin down the faulty file (I'm sure at least one or more of your files is corrupted since you tried with many burners and reinstalling Windows)

  • Different data every time. From different hard drives. I burn an mp3 disc, there's always data errors. I burn a disc with DIVX files, data errors. I burn a backup disc of stuff like emails, text files, web pages, raw video files, games, and such. And I get data errors when I try to read the disc.

The only consistent thing is the data error always somewhere in the last half of the disc.

I tried old discs I've burnt, and they all read fine. It's anything I've burnt over the last year or so.

  • Oh, and it's always a different file. If I burn the same group of files on different discs, the file that gave the error on the first disc will work on the second disc and visa versa.

  • So that's why I bought a couple 500 gb hard drives. It was cheaper and less headaches than trying to fix the problem any more.

  • I usually record my game footage with a DVD recorder, then convert it with DGIndex, then use AVISynth and set up the files generated by DGIndex so I can then load up the AVS file with Virtualdub and then encode to AVI. I made sure to use either LeakKernenDeint or Mvbob for deinterlacing. I've never experienced desyncs, although usually if it occurs, it's the version of my sound encoder I use (some audio encoders can desync videos!)

  • Does your new Pinnacle card capture both video and audio, or just video (with your sound card capturing your audio)?

  • It has both.

  • Well, shot that idea down. Hearing you talking about your webcam doing it too made me think that maybe it was your sound card. Considering that it worked fine at first would point me to a hardware problem instead of a software one, especially if you haven't installed anything before it started acting up.

  • Have you searched for alternative drivers/utils or maybe an updated one?

  • Already did that. My computer's giving me plenty of problems. I can't even burn discs without getting data errors when I try to read them. I replaced drives, updated drivers, firmware, reinstalled, reformatted, etc, etc.

This whole audio out of sync thing is just another stake in the coffin. And I'm still paying for this computer for another year, and the warranty's up.

I'll hopefully figure it out. But it'll take a while. I was looking forward to recording the last of Lost Vikings 2 today. :|
