Those of you who depend on emergency rooms don;t realize that you can't get dialysis or chemotherapy in an emergency room, and if you can't pay for them, those things are rationed for you. Emergency rooms are good for band aid solutions, not for anything serious with long term ramifications.

Actually what reform will do is end the insurance takeover of health care and the rationing of insurance-run healthcare Reform will put physicians back in charge of your health care. My 29 yr-old cousin died because neither she nor her mom had the strength nor $ to fight the Canada Gov-controlled system to get her the care she needed. There are so many rules; if you're sick, if a Doc makes error, you cant go elsewhere. That Doc is only one who can refer you to a diff Doc. Think the Doc who makes an error will refer you to another Doc? Nope. Theyll let the mistake die when you die. In the Hospital? too weak to move? You're stuck, your story will die with you.

I don't doubt the Harvard Study, I doubt your interpretation of the study. Doctors don't do coding. Doctors don't do billing. Doctors don't file insurance claims. They have staff to do that. I can assure you, doctors don't sit there half the day filling out paperwork. They don't play receptionist, nurse, and transcritionist. They tend to patients most of the day.

I've lived in both Canada and the US and Canadians have far more disposable income after taxes (which includes health care) than Americans the same amount have after paying taxes (almost identical to Canada's)+health insurance+copays. Canadians pay about 1% more than Americans in taxes, but Americans pay thousands of dollars more for health care. Canadians have 82% of gross pay after deductions. Americans have 81.6% of gross pay after deductions. Last time I looked, 82% was more than 81.6%

It's because insurance companies only use 59% of premiums for actual health care. The rest goes for non medical uses (salaries, profit, paperwork to ration care)

Actually, that report does not include the public plan, which would lower costs because there would not be the 30% profit taking by the private insurance vultures.
Oh, and the boomers have been paying twice as much in many taxes, to cover themselves and their parents, so get off that whine about them.
To really reduce costs, we need to expand Medicare to cover everyone and be done with the private insurance companies.

The main concern is that it is a trillion dollars overbudget. We're just going to close our eyes and throw it onto the debt pile, and hope nothing happens. How much can we get away with... 15 trillion? 30 trillion? 40? If we're going to be responsible and have a public plan, then we should be able to AT LEAST PAY FOR IT. The bill needs to be modified. Actually what reform will do is end the insurance takeover of health care and the rationing of insurance-run healthcare Reform will put physicians back in charge of your health care. An insurance company bureaucrats will no longer be making your medical decisions. I had horrible health care, rationed by insurance companies in the US. I have far better health care by comparison in Canada. My 29 yr-old cousin died because neither she nor her mom had the strength nor $ to fight the Canada Gov-controlled system to get her the care she needed. There are so many rules; if you're sick, if a Doc makes error, you cant go elsewhere. That Doc is only one who can refer you to a diff Doc. Think the Doc who makes an error will refer you to another Doc? Nope. Theyll let the mistake die when you die. In the Hospital? too weak to move? You're stuck, your story will die with you.

I don't doubt the Harvard Study, I doubt your interpretation of the study. Doctors don't do coding. Doctors don't do billing. Doctors don't file insurance claims. They have staff to do that. I can assure you, doctors don't sit there half the day filling out paperwork. They don't play receptionist, nurse, and transcritionist. They tend to patients most of the day.

For every Canadian horror story you can find, I can find at least 50 US ones. The US has only 10 times the population of Canada, but has 50 times the health care horror stories. It's insurance-run health care like you have in rthe US that kills. Canadians live almost three years longer than Americans on average.

On healthcare, this country SUCKS. In some states you cant even get coverage if you had a nessasary surgery like a C-Section pregnacy. And if you can get insurance from a private carrier, you are paying $600 a month for a family of 2 or maybe 3. Say what you want about his other policies, but the Insurance companies are raping this country. Get laid off of work, and good luck with COBRA, the biggest FRAUD of them all. I've lived in both Canada and the US and Canadians have far more disposable income after taxes (which includes health care) than Americans the same amount have after paying taxes (almost identical to Canada's)+health insurance+copays. Canadians pay about 1% more than Americans in taxes, but Americans pay thousands of dollars more for health care. Canadians have 82% of gross pay after deductions. Americans have 81.6% of gross pay after deductions. Last time I looked, 82% was more than 81.6%

And then if I am sick , its the deductible and copay to the doctor, and copays for the meds! And then if I am in the hospital , I pay 20% of the bill! So you are not just hearing from the UNINSURED when you hear about the gross profits by the insurance corporations, you are hearing from INSURED too!

I have talked to several people in person that have lived in countries with universal health care (not necessarily socialized, which single payer is not) and they seem to be very happy with what they have. One lives in England, and she says hands down it's much better than in the US. She has had several children there, and loved the care.

Dental care is provided by private insurance, usually provided by employers, like most of your own insurance-run health care system is. If the company fails to provide dental care, that's the company's fault, and has nothin g at all to do waith the health care system. The point is the plan in Congress does not save. I don't care how you implement the program, but we shouldn't pay a dime. We should be reducing costs. As I said before, the CBO did NOT include the public plan in their calculations. That is without the plan. With the public plan it would be less. In fact, if it was all something like Medicare for all, we would pay less than what we are paying now when you include all health care costs. There would also be fewer lawsuits, as people would not worry about future and past medical costs.
