There's a stark difference between Un-PC and being a flat out racist. It may make a few hairs bristle, but it's not overtly rascist in the way that all the terms you listed are. Just because he says he's for something (legalizing pot) or against something (against the death penalty) doesn't mean he's going to get it done. He still has to work with the Texas Legislature and there's no one there that will work with him. Texas has enough real problems that we need a real Governor to work with the TX Lege to fix them. It's not as easy but you should try looking at the issues, evaluating who is sensible, and/or honest, and/or who shows a past of actions you agree with, and voting accordingly. But, like you say, free country. That's why we get the Perrys.
