  • people here saying that these guy is close to vai is a moron or under the influence of illegal drugs... stop trolling guys!! VAI is VAI. end of the story... no one else comes close enough!

  • Pure silk.........

  • Its pains me to say it, but I do prefer Watching/Listening to Andy more than Vai, everytime he plays, he plays something new/melodic/exciting, Whilst I love Vai, theres only a handfull of things I love to listen to, Brandos Costumes is a masterpeice though!

  • Andy did give Via a good lesson...hope he learned something :)~~~

...Anyways, that was just very nice on its own.

  • not even in the same world as Mr. Vai....what are these people thinking.

  • @8000tonpress "not even in the same world as Mr. Vai" as the people who claim this is better than vai you exaggerated in the apposite direction .as good as vai ? no its Andy James mimicking a player .good enough for the purpose ?o hell yes some of what he does is beautifully melodic.

  • @8000tonpress Your comment is hilarious. A lot of these licks are from Vai's own songs.

  • TABS

  • I closed my eyes and definitely didn't hear Steve Vai. It was good just didn't have the same quirky groove.

  • Vai inspired :)

  • God vai is god...:)

  • i swear to god.. almost every guitarist from the UK is fucking amazing! all the great guitarists today are from the UK. guthrie govan, this guy, and countless other people on youtube

  • Would like to see a wah pedal camera too :P

    Sounds great Andy!

  • I cant hear VAI pls change the title of this video. like trying to mimic vai

  • @Leadista08

You do realize half of this are actual licks of Steve used in different variations right? So how could it not sound at least 'somewhat' like Steve?

  • @AnalogDamage Well, if he isn't using the right effects it would sound more like Satriani.

Regardless, i liked this piece more than just about anything i've heard vai write and preform.

  • @Leadista08 You're an idiot. Sorry.

  • @Leadista08 your are a dumbass.

  • @Leadista08 Go get ur ear checked kid

  • Totally un steve vai! Pls dont imitate him coz no one can.. thanks/.

  • B A D A S S ! .

  • Amazing!

  • Too caaaaaatchyyyyyyyyy! :D

  • ok. did u see idiots. u dont need jem to play like steve. idiots fuck off. andy rocks.

  • Andy James is an ridiculously skilled guitar player If I could play 1/3 of that I would be a happy camper :)

  • this guy plays steve vai better then steve vai

  • not enough whammy bar, too much conventional.

Andy james is a great guitarist but in this exercise, Guthrie Govan is better than him ( watch?v=oaIzEo013iI )

  • What's the name of this song?

  • Sounds like Rush/Dream Theater aswell

    Fuckin fantastic may I add.

  • wow. that's good stuff!

  • Backing track mmen?!

  • man this so damn good. unbelievable.

  • In...SANE!

  • I mant tabs!?

  • well, i never heard vai playing a solo like this , close to perfection this izz ! if not perfect ... X

  • Guitar pro???

  • Andy James is just amazing. He mimics other guitarists flawlessly!

  • So clean compared to my playing.. Makes me feel shitter than I am. lol

  • @ScottNicholasSimpson Its because he's got a hair band (poof band) on the top of the neck, muting all unwanted noise. Its basically cheating.

  • A stupid question.. What is that violet colored things at the nut??? Something to dampen the open strings to prevent unwanted ringing??

  • @sayandas27 its a hair scunchie.

  • what key is that?? B major? am i ryt? please reply, what scale do you use? ^__^ i want to jam that

  • "and that was the solo played at half tempo"

    Andy James

  • Does it really matter if AJ uses a string dampener? If one can compose and play awesome music like this, does it really fucking matter?

  • @gnaaahhh he didn't compose this

  • Comment removed

  • @RofICopters Who composed this, then?

  • @gnaaahhh Steve Vai? hurrr yeah Andy Just arranged this.

  • @RofICopters lol, I suppose Vai told you this.

  • @gnaaahhh no the title did... Annnd Andy says it in his lesson

  • @RofICopters yeah, riiight...

  • @gnaaahhh you're ignorance is astounding.... the title says "STEVE VAI techniques/licks" not "ANDY JAMES techniques/licks" are you really that dumb? please refer to your nearest dictionary for the definitions to musical composing and musical arrangements.

  • @RofICopters LOL, the title is your incontrovertible proof? Maybe you should watch the real source, maybe then you'll get a clue why anybody would take you seriously. "Ignorance is astounding"? not even close, son.

  • @gnaaahhh where's your proof to sustain a rebuttal? Like I said, I watched the whole lesson.... he says it in the introduction and right as he begins to play this. So I've done my homework and have my proof inside my DVD drive. Now i reiterate... your ignorance is astounding. Don't believe me, you can buy it as well. What more proof do you need? Andy James NEVER takes credit for composing this. You're just a moron that argues for the sake of arguing... please don't reply to this.

  • @RofICopters Take a look at the credits again, my boy. See any Steve Vai mentioned there? What you just said cuts both ways, you know? Calm down, son. Hurling insults isn't good practice if you want to make me believe you. That's the point of this supposed argument, isn't it?

  • @gnaaahhh Kid, I don't want to make you believe me. That'd be like Nicolaus Copernicus trying to convince the Church the earth orbits the sun. I have the proof in my hands, the dvd lesson. You're basing your entire argument off a youtube video uploaded by a random person. You don't know the definitions of the words your using. It's like talking to my 2-year-old. You think you're right no matter what. Please don't call me boy because you demonstrate an education that hasn't surpassed a teenager.

  • @RofICopters Actually you may want to review that video again Roflcopter, The only thing Vai related are the licks in which he used (such as beginning melody and thereafter chops found in vai's dictionary of licks.) He even mentions in writing and verbally that this has no way whatsoever to be connected with Vai, because indeed, Vai did not help with this song, it has no reference to him. So therefor, Vai did not "compose" this song, if you really want to call it a composition.

  • @RofICopters the purpose of this video is to show people Vai's way of solo'ing. You might want to directly relate this with Vai because how astounding of a job Andy james did with phrasing and constructing this, and the backing track being in e lydian, exotic licks, Windows to the Soul intro melody. But it's not, this is Andy James work with "stolen" licks from Vai's category. So plain and simple, AJ developed, arranged, and composed this song. end of story.

  • @hensleyohensley That's really not what he says in the lesson... I don't get you people... did you buy and watch the whole thing? or are you just projecting? I'd have to lean towards the latter. This is just arranging with quotes from other songs. Not true composing, please for god's sake just listen to what Andy says about this...

  • @RofICopters I really don't understand what you don't get it. It's not "composed" or "arranged" by Vai, infact, it's in the credits, he says Steve Vai did not take part in the creation of this video. If you play guitar you'll understand he's aiming at SIGNATURE VAI LICKS, which are obviously found throughout many of his songs, because these are signature licks known to Vai and used amongst many other guitarists. Licks are universal and do not belong to one person..

  • @RofICopters Please understand this Solo is in the STYLE of Steve Vai, not indefinitley Vai himself. They follow a Lydian backing track which is Vai's most renown mode. Besides the intro lick which is found off Windows to the soul (While might i add is still a bit modified), the rest are all building blocks of Vai's style, hence it being a QUICKLICKS for STEVE VAI. I mean I dont know how else to put it, It's not Vai's arrangement plain and simple.

  • @RofICopters And you fancy yourself a Copernicus amidst a throng of unbelievers? That's a bit of stretch, LOL. I'll simplify it for you: Your proof is weak, so I don't believe you. Obviously you're not old enough to accept that there are people out here that have a different opinion than yours. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can calm down.

BTW, AJ has a few other Quick Lick DVD's in the style of Paul Gilbert, Nuno Bettencourt, etc. I suppose he didn't compose them, too, eh?

  • The people that disliked this are the envious, lazy losers who could never play it but wish they could. Theres nothing not to like about this solo.

  • I really like the feel of this tune.....should be more guitar solo's like this!!!!

  • name of song?¿

  • Absolutely awesome!

  • Lol he might not be an as clean player as he seems.

    He has a string dampener.

  • @liamzuid That's because this is for a DVD... Any kind of professional recordings will use dampeners to make life easier on everyone. I've met Andy and seen him play, he's an incredible player - and by god he can drink too!

  • This is so good that it makes me laugh! What an beautifull package of Steave Vai on 2 minutes. Perfect !

  • every note in this evokes emotion in you, all music should have depth like this

  • andy is the men

  • fucking insane

  • wat guitar is that?

  • @scorpionz44 It's a Music Man Jp6. One of the best guitars ever made in my opinion. super thin neck, amazing pickups, awesome tremelo.

  • 14 dislikes.....just comes to show not everyone should be entitled to an opinion

  • This is so good

  • in which DVD is it included?

  • bonita melodia,buena tecnica,gran guitarrista

  • Steve Vai licks always remind me of Joe Satriani...

  • I say this every time i see you play. you are a phenomenon

  • Vai would lose his shit if he heard this song! It's a little hard to understand how someone can create such a beautiful melody..

  • Tabs?? I can't find the CD here where I reside.

  • Which DVD has this exact backing track?

  • @jazzguitar2010 The "Quick licks" Steve Vai one :)

  • Excellent phrasing! Very tasty!

  • I would love to have this backing track. Any way of getting it?

  • @jazzguitar2010 I got it :D I think...

  • Apart from the video, the reason why i like this best, is because he is fuckin using his PINKY!!!

I've almost never seen him used his pinky before.

Steve vai is so revolutionary :P.

  • why the ugliest guitars have 24 frets?

  • @dgttm74 maybe ugliest, but are the MOST astounding!!!!

  • @SHREDDER222X thats correct

  • @dgttm74 EBMM JP6s look better than most generic strats, les pauls, et cetera.

  • what´s name of this song

  • what´s name of this song??????

  • @moy81191 its has no name. its just a solo andy composed for this vid

  • @moy81191

just known as E lydian by andy

  • Regardless of the hairband, which I don't care about anyway, Andy still wrote this incredible piece of music.

  • He is very incredible!!!!!!!

  • what's the name of this piece??

  • Well it is harder then it looks especially with a 22 fret Strat. After practicing a week or more you can play it. The demonstration is good.

  • rockin!

  • Comment removed

  • still sounds beautiful. havent heard this in like a year.

  • it misses only one thing to be it truly vais style..it is too consistent in 16 notes pace

  • What Amplifier does he use?

  • simply amazing

  • Please in what steve song does the first lick appear??

    thanks

  • @PeGaiarsa windows to the soul

  • @TeaMxVorteX thank you man.

  • Nice licks, melodies and technique but I hate the tone. I advise Lick Library to invest in some good amp

  • I think that this guy is the best guitarist in the world.

  • This is not imitating steve vai, it's doing better than him : more melodic, original without being awful, no fucking strange and useless noises... large list...

  • @satire123456 ha ive gotta agree with you on the useless noise - Vai and Satriani can sometimes use too many useless pinch harmonic dives and whammy tapping stuff.

  • This guy is probably one of the very, very few guitarists in the world that can cover Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert AND Steve Vai.

  • Okay guys, here is why everyone should shut the fuck up about the string damper: he isn't using a sock or a beanie to cover the freaking strings, its a little hair thing, that does not reduce THAT must noise. Not to mention he has the damper on the top of the first fret. It is barely making a difference.

  • what guitar is this!!!???

  • @BMXshark Music man John Petrucci i guess

  • i can kill for those han... no i can't be as better as him !
