Trivia: The cast's reaction (including Kimmy Robertson's jump) at 6.13 was their genuine reaction and was unscripted. MacLachlan was told to hit the bottle on this take, and actually did.

Did anyone notice that Cooper's technique didn't work? The glass breaks in regards to Leo Johnson being the J that Laura was nervous about meeting. They found out later it was probably in reference to James. More of the Twin Peaks tax payers money going down the toilet!

Psychologically what Cooper does can be translated into this. The collective unconscious has a wisdom (the tibetan mythology) far greater than the normal consciousness. The personal unconscious can get contaminated by contents from the collective unconscious and can create complexes (emotionally charged group of ideas) in the conscious mind. Cooper let's the unconscious direct his hand based on all the information at hand. The unconscious can make connections that the conscious mind cannot.

Kyle Maclachlan hit the bottle on the first take- Kimmy Robertson was so impressed, she jumped and let out a yelp. They kept the jump but overdubbed a more subtle vocalization- I love weird little happenstance things like that that make it into a final cut.
