  • I know people won't believe this, but it is very much the truth. Kate Smith is a distant cousin of mine. My Grandmother (now passed away) is her second cousin and I heard all the wonderful stories about her while I was growing up. I am about to be 31 and I just thought that some of you would like to hear that short story. I am no one special, but at least I know that something special runs in my blood!!! Thanks for reading~ Scott!

  • @civilengineeringtech Hi - My name is Monica and I had always heard that Kate Smith was kin to our family, but I was not able to pin it down. I remember her as a little girl and she used to be sitting on a swing and there was like a new moon and she was singing, I've got the world on a string, sitting on a rainbow." But, cannot find out who her parents were. She was born in Greenville, VA and I was told that she was kin to the Colvins there right in Catlett.

  • America used to be like this. People could live without fear then. Just think about that.

  • What a voice!!!!! Kate Smith was a true singer and purest American.

  • My mother liked Kate Smith. She told me that as a girl in her teens she would hear

"When The Moon Comes Over The Mountain" emerging from the radio of a neighboring home. I believe approximately the same time every day.

  • Kate Smith was "America" for many years on radio and TV...........Thank you so much.

  • Thanks for posting this song by ine of America's most talented and charming singers.

  • Oh, thanks so much. A friend loved "God Bless America", and I told him "When the moon .." was her flagship song. So, that's why I'm watching it.

It really does bring back memories because I listened to her as a little girl.

I'm thrilled to get to hear her again.

    Bless you!

PS: Never knew when I grew up in Ohio, I'd be watching the moon comin' over the Rocky Mountains in CO! Nice!

  • What part of Ohio? I grew up in NE Ohio but now watch the moon in Texas.

  • I think this was her theme song. She also recorded it, in 1931, with Ben Selvin and his orchestra but I prefer this version.

  • It was her theme song and I too prefer this version the most. Thanks for stopping by!

  • I have not heard Kate Smith sing in years. Nice contribution.

  • Thanks Ellen, wish the record was in better shape. I posted this and less than an hour later I got told of a copyright claim on it by Sony. However, they are allowing me to keep it posted for now. Thank You Sony!

  • I'm assuming this is the Harmony recording...

  • Velvet Tone but same thing. I saw your post but since this was a different version I posted it.

  • Brings back pleasant memories.......
