He paddled out and disrupted a surfing competition. When asked to leave, he refused. Then he punched a competitor in the face while he was surfing towards him. Then, in the entire video, he goes and confronts the two guys in this video. The kid was not as innocent as this video portrays.

what you guys dont see is the set up to this. This happened during a contest at pipeline. White guy was trying to surf in the middle of the contest, and was told to leave multiple times and didnt. Hawaii water patrol (lifeguards) went out ot get him, and he swung at them in the water, this was just the ending on the beach.
Yes this was not needed, but his actions before were pretty bad as well.

Kainoa (the assaulter) ended up getting suspended from the surfmeets, paid nearly $5000+ in medical and property damage charges, was locked up for a month and a half and is now on probation as well as having to do 3 months of community service.

If you're a BJJ or other real martial art practitioner you should use your advantage to calm the situation down. A BJJ/MMA practitioner beating down someone who can't defend themselves, while being cheered on by others who obviously also knows martial arts, it just makes me sad.

Even if the surfer was talking trash, bjj or any martial art for that matter should only be used in self defense, in training, or in an organized match in the cage . The man in the white shirt(the combatant who seems to know BJJ) seems to be a jerk. Theres no backstory in the video on why the fight started but by the looks of the BJJ'er breaking the other man's board, it seems like hes in the wrong. In any case, you have to admit this does show what BJJ can do in a real life fight(in this case, a confrontation on the beach).

But I just found it very distasteful that he had no compassion when the surfer was apparently no match for him. Even after they pulled him off he was still trying for an armbar, and in the end, when he won the fight, he broke the surf board. That's a shame.

Thats horrible. The guy in the white shirt shouldn't have used mixed martial art techniques. Even if the surfer was talking trash, bjj or any martial art for that matter should only be used in self defense, in training, or in an organized match in the cage . In this case, mma techniques were used to maliciously hurt somebody who obviously didn't know how to defend himself.Also breaking the guy's board was not necessary.
