  • Excellent thank you so much! If you could just include the actual comand keys when telling what to pull up that would be great. Other than that great job and thank you.

  • no worries, dude, you are a terrific help ! :) -I have been doing medical art forever, and I am getting into medical, and non-medical animation. I also want to get more into motion graphics. So, if you feel inclined to create some tutorials of motion graphics, texts, effects, please let me know, I love to expand and learn from generous people like yourself, Cheers, Craig

  • @skadbone Thats really cool! Hopefully I'll put out some tuts that help you in the future. Good luck!

    -Tyler

  • OK, I will try. The only problem with this approach, which I have thought of, btw, is that if I want to match my 3D text movement, rotation etc, w/an animated movie, like what you did, I may have to go back and forth from C4D to AE. If my text was not created to perfectly match the perspective in the movie/background, then more work, going backforth is created. If 3D text was created right in AE, then i can adjust within AE. Maybe there is no easy answer. thanks dude !-Craig

  • @skadbone Yeah I'm not quite sure either since I do use Boujou. My guess would be that the only real way to do it would be to keyframe the rotation frame by frame. That would be really tedious though. Actually now that I think of it yeah, you would have to rotate it in c4d and render out each frame separately. I'm not sure. Sorry I can't be more help!!

  • Hey, you are welcome. I do not use Boujou, just AE, and C4D. If I create 3D text in C4D, then how can I motion track in AE?-it seems as if I would need to create text in AE, like you did, which is not really 3D text, but you did a wonderful job in "faking it", or maybe Zaxwerks. Can you share any other methods?:)-thanks again dude, you' re priceless!!

  • @skadbone If you create 3D text in c4d and render it out with a transparent background, then I'm sure you could bring it into AAE and track it just like you would with text created in AAE. Let me know if it works!

  • dude, great tutorial, please do more- not sure about motion tracking in C4D, since I use that program, but as a AE user, this is wonderful, nice job in teaching-Craig

  • @skadbone Thank you for your feedback! Let me know if there is something else you would like me to cover and I'll try to get on it!

  • great tut!

  • @GWBendik Thanks :)

  • ik this is a stupid question but how do select sides and front without selcting original text

  • @jma1098 You drag the "Original Text" comp into a new comp, which you will name "Front". Once you do that, duplicate the "Front" comp (ctrl D) and name that one "Sides". Make sense? You should have 3 comps at that point.

  • great tut, esp. for those of us without access to every software under the sun. Is this possible using the shatter effect instead of the duplicated layers w an expression? I know it used to be that 3d text made w shatter would be 2d when precomposed, in other words, it was only 3D to shatters own built in camera. But now that you can assign a comp camera to shatter, might it work? if so, it might save render time. I should just try it, but i was up all night - new baby - so feeling lazy:)

  • @bminnerly To be honest I've never really messed around with shatter too much. I don't see why that wouldn't work though. Give it a shot and let me know!

  • @sohvibrant Tried it this weekend. Kind of half works. It responds as 3D to the comp camera, but if you rotate it, or use a light (other that the light built in to shatter) its 2D. But you can get it to work, it seems, if you're not trying to track rotation and scale.

  • Uuhm...uuhhhm.uuuhm..uuuuhm...uhhhhm.

  • @hOriXXon16 You're gay.

  • @sohvibrant <3

  • @zShowGaming There are already billions of tuts out there on c4d and boujou tracked text. This tut was meant to show you how to do it if you don't have those programs. Look it up and you'll find plenty that explain it better than I could.

  • I'm really happy there was a tutorial like this out there! Thanks a whole lot mate! I'm going to try this out in my next edit.

  • @FallClassics Thanks dude I'm glad it helped!
