You know, a lot of people overlook this point. However, the real problem is that our govt feels that a public option will create competition. What is 1(aka the govt) more ins company against 1300 in our country? What we need is to open the market by using cross state ins buys. Consumers are THE best form of creating competition between companies. This is where all these politicians fail at economics 101.
We have been consumers for decades as products get worse and the level of service has declined. Your consumer/free market rhetoric has been proven false by history and by the society we live in today. Sure it has made for the most powerful economy - because no one in the world is willing to break their backs at work for as little money as Americans are. Other countries who take a more balanced approach to politics and economics have already surpassed us.
And the insurance industry is the only business aside from MLB which is free of regulation against monopolizing (Sherman Anti-Trust) so it's no wonder they're all monopolies.
No wonder they're spending millions lobbying against a public insurance option, it would be "unfair competition."
So how can someone argue that government health-care will be so much worse than private, yet will still be too competitive, i.e. better. That's textbook cognitive dissonance, or doublethink if you're able.

You lack proof. You lack evidence.
