Fascism arose directly under the socialist belief system (minor differences). Hitler studied Marx and Lenin's Soviet Union who guided him to power under Stalin's regime. These arguments are all to simplistic. Whether they are owned by stockholders or by oligarchs, the oil companies are most certainly guilty of a variety of heinous activities, and one does not have to do much research to find that out. Yep, we are unfortunately powered by oil, but the simpler solution is more along the lines of lifestyle change than drilling and more refineries. Smaller vehicles and drive less, for a start. All the oil ends up on the World Market anyway!

Fascism is mostly synonymous with nationalism. It was Anti-Liberal (anti individualism) AND anti-conservative (anti-tradition and religion)....but the latter was more attracted to it because its close association with nationalism. Lots of isms here....too many.

America as it is, is much too fascist. I mean, your country spends a ridiculous amount of money on a health care industry that is mostly private and still is only 36th in the world. First world nations that have universal health care - all have more healthy and longer living citizens.

JimmyeDallas, I agree with the gist of what you are saying, but a fascist government is not necessarily one controlled by corporations. the word fascism is now used generally to refer to authoritarian/totalitarian governments that are essentially police states in which a dictator calls all the shots and rules with absolute authority. what you are talking about sounds more like a modernized form of aristocracy or oligarchy

No, I'm talking about corporativism or economic fascism. Totalitarianism is the result of populist opposition to an ideological government. Both of the far corners of the political spectrum have had their fair share of oppressive governing regimes. Hitler, Mussolini, and Pinochet are notable fascist autocrats. Lenin, Stalin, and Mao for the socialists.
My point is that fascism isn't a synonym for totalitarianism or autocracy. There's no such thing as a fascist communist government.
