  • The sound he made at 4:06 and 6:30 after licking his finger is called a "moose call" and I have read can best be promoted by applying bees wax to the drum head. Can't see clearly enough but he possibly has synthetic heads on the bongos which might produce a higher tone.

  • excellent I love it

  • nerdsssssssssss lol dig it tho

  • There is another drumming going on.. so cant figure out which is which, can you do another video without that? it feels weird the guy not in there.. is it a playback or sequencer? or did it edit the sound in? Would like to see a vid playing solo

  • that old man is really feel'n it. how old are you then old man?

  • This is my favorite bongo video as of August 2011. This guy has a style that seems different from all of the more Latin oriented players. I like how his sounds are varied and more noticeable than most other players. I'm hoping to develop more varied tones with the bongos so that it is just more fun to hear and play.

  • LOVIN HIS SHOES :>

  • This guy is really good. He knows his shit.

  • Very nice!

  • This guys a bongo head lol

  • A bit anoying and confusing that there is played congas in the background - maybe it's all playback??

  • Is it possible to get the guitar chords? Thanks.

  • @2monte78 simplemente pasa el dedo por el cuero pero primero humedecelo un poco

  • @2monte78 no se pero esta muyyyy bueno!!

  • he doesnt, is the bckground sound

el no lo hace es el sonido de acompañamiento

I l ne pa fere, cest le music du le cd (fuck i dont knw french :)

hes pro do.. a good trip tick ;) to feel the music

  • @Aldivine il ne le fait pas c'est le son du cd

    friendly from france

  • @2monte78 mouth LOL ... hmmmmm

  • @2monte78 i think with his nail, after he put a little spit on it

  • @2monte78 The player licks his finger tip and runs it across the drum head. The moisture on the finger creates friction on the head. Since the finger cannot move smoothly over the head it bumps along so quickly that it creates a vibration. It is the same reason that glass squeaks when you clean it and a violin sings when you run the bow across the string :)

  • Hey Danny, glad to see you're still alive & playing!

    -=-Ron-=-

  • exelente

  • how do a make that bongo sound at 1:21

  • so damn blow my mind. How old are the bongos? They sound amazing and look exquisitely old (good thing)

  • Danny,

I want to say thank you for the great work.

I can watch your video over and over again and never get tired of it.

I've been teaching and play drums for the past 20 years and you are the best bongo player I've even.

    seen.

    Thank you.

  • esta buena la pieza pero al tres le falta un poco de sabor

  • hey is there two people playing the bongos because when his hands are up i hear sounds that arent being played by him

  • ronaldo!

  • This guy is the bomb! Have known him for thirty years, watched him work hard at his craft, enjoyed his friendship. And he is FUNNY! a modern day beatnik.

  • Danny is certainly the maestro. This video really holds up! It has been a few years since I shot and edited this video series. This bongo cat is so creative, tasty, and thoughtful it is truly inspiring. Deep stuff man.

    Zeno Okeanos

  • NICE!!!

  • I met bumped into danny in brighton uk- just before kd lang's show- I mentioned that I had seen him on this clip playing his awesome bongos- he was very sweet and pleased that I enjoyed it- really nice friendly guy!!!

  • The dude in the sick fez is GANGSTA!

    CONTRATACIONES :4740675 NO DUDEN

  • how does he make that cool "WOOOOOOOOOOO" sound? is it with his finger or is there something else that hes using? i wanna learn it

  • Leo Di Angilla - Pop Song

check out that video. leo di angilla uses it on his drums too, and its closer so it might be easier to figure out.

he also has a vido called "left and right" and i think he does the same thing on his congas.

  • It's the congas that's making that sound I think.

Sounds like (and this is based on tabla experience not congas) he's hitting the skin with one hand and then touching a finger right in the middle of the skin to sound a harmonic IE Suppress the fundamental vibration) then pressing down with the striking hand at the edge to stretch the skin and lower the pitch of the sound then releasing to bend it back up. You can get the same effect on tabla doing that. Tricky on a tight skinned bongo tho GL:-)

  • at just after the pause at around 6:26 theres a slide on the congas followed by one on the hembra! I notice he wets his finger for this. Amazing. Shows me how important it is to tune your drums properly (his sound super sweet).

  • saliva on finger....rub across skin

  • Definately the bongo player is really good, I´am a percusionist and I own a professional Meinl Bongo but they weigth a ton I would like to know how can I handle the weigth and when I playing sitting down

  • MUY BUENO

  • Muito bom!! O Bongozeiro tem uma tecnica exelente. Parabéns.....Very good!!

  • thanks for yr comment! the conga player is me,i recorded it earlier so i'd have a basic thing to play off of.

  • Fuckin' great work on both congas and bongos, Danny! I've picked up a lot listening and watching your video here...and while my speed isn't quite up to yours, my bongo playing has improved in the past two years! Love your technique, brother!

  • Incredible sounds. Truly enjoyed this vid and hope to see more of these guys. Next time include the conga player on the video.

  • right on danny. very tasty syncopation. would love to collaborate.

  • Outstanding work... I love your style It LOOKS soooo easy. is there any other video of you playing the bongos in your repertoire that you might want to share? Or do you have and educational DVD...

  • Danny--outstanding work! One hell of a video, bro'! One small quibble--realize this is a bongo video, but your conga player was kickin' ass, too...would have liked to see him on-camera, too...I play both, and would have enjoyed watching him, too.

  • Danny is the master of el bongo. Check out how he demonstrates playing in 7/4 PERFECTLY in time to Cuban son; Danny understands that Cuban music is polyrhythmic, not just in a clave straitjacket. How I wish more players understood this!

  • Very, very nice. Beautiful.

  • you're the best, why don't you have more youtube videos?

  • VERY GOOD

  • That's terrific Danny...you are the bongo baron! I love the fancy fingerwork esp. the super fast parts...and definitely dig the duo with the guitar...super syncopation man. A lot more spirited and engaging than the bongo loops I'm at the mercy of!

  • Great sound, Danny. Amazing feel. Loved the 4+3 and the heel/toe technique in the left hand.

  • Great!!!!

  • Amazing!

  • vaya par de freaks...

  • mortadelo¿

  • Oh yeah -- Danny doesn't just play the bongos ... he plays, on the bongos. Fun to listen to , again and again. Lots to learn here.

  • Good chit! Loved it, Danny.
